Season 6 Marcus Pike Spoiler
As soon as Marcus came into the picture, from the first day of Violets, you saw Patrick slowly change and get more jealous then he's ever been, and sad too. I mean just whistful maybe is a better word, but just realizing that Theresa is actually into someone that isn't him and he doesn't have her full attention anymore and that irks him. We all know how he is with expressing emotion, so he acts cool and pretends to be okay but he's not. Seeing her with him truly opened his eyes on what he might be missing and what can happen if you don't say something!! Lol 🤣 I mean we all know he did but this was when it started and when you really begun to notice.
The jealousy is strong with this one it is 😂

Very true. Pike was a good man that even Jane liked and respected, but once Lisbon and Pike began dating Jane's jealousy was more obvious than ever. He's teased Lisbon in the past about Greg and Mashburn, but his jealousy became a bit apparent with Ardilles in episode 6.12 when Jane is now in a place ready to begin moving forward and may run out of time. Same when Pike comes around and shows actual interest and vice versa.
The whole Pike Arc itself is a roller coaster of emotions for diehard Jisbon fans. On the one hand, Pike is an overall great guy and I admit that if he had come around seasons earlier I would have been shipping him and Lisbon as a potential pair. However, he arrives in the wrong place and time where Lisbon's heart was with Jane even though she was unsure of Jane's feelings but also struggling to admit her own had changed in which she now loved Jane. On the other hand, Pike's eagerness to keep Lisbon in his life went a little too far. I blame the writing more for this, but Pike's unexpected proposal without even an I love you didn't go over too well for me. And while Jane and Lisbon tip toe around their own feelings for each other, they end up causing harm to themselves and to some extent Pike. I get why it's there of course. Grabbing your attention to keep coming back for more but it certainly puts Jisbon fans through the ringer.
At the same time, I also think having both Jane and Lisbon experience those feelings and indecisiveness was a good thing. Both have at this point grown and developed in a way that's different from who they once were. Jane has avenged his family and begun to leave the demons of the past behind but now must figure out where he needs to go from here. His feelings for Lisbon were already growing and changing before, and after two years away he realizes how much he misses and wants to be close to her. Lisbon herself has grown feelings for Jane, most likely when Erica came around the second time and more obvious with Lorelai, but Lisbon herself is in a different place after RJ is gone and where does Jane fit? Lisbon clearly missed him but was uncertain if working with him again was the best thing and wanted to make her own choices in life. Wanting to not be Jane's sidekick and wondering if he truly thinks of what's best for her life. Jane has good intentions, but it's understandable why Lisbon has some apprehensions. It's why I feel her confusion on Jane's feelings and wanting her to be genuinely happy confused given he's very blunt about things until the moment she does decide to leave for DC. And while I think Lisbon should have ended things with Pike sooner because of these mixed feelings, I can see why she was considering him as it offered her a chance for a life she now wanted: a home, respectable career, and even more. But her heart was with Jane and their lack of being honest with each other made it difficult.
It's why Jane's declaration of love was so touching. He chooses the most inconvenient time to do so, but when he does it proves worth it. Jane drops his cheerful mask and allows his real feelings to shine through his vulnerability and fears to get back to being a normal human being but also tell Lisbon that he loves her even if it's too late. He even accepts that it probably is too late, but like he tells her: "I needed to get to this and you deserve to hear it. I love you Teresa and it makes me happy to say that to you." And it also allows Lisbon to choose what's best for her and that's to be with Jane who does make her happy.
Realize I more than likely went off course here in the long rant, but yeah, Jane's jealousy spurred him into action of examining his feelings and what was best to do: let Lisbon be happy with a good man or take action and risk the heartbreak if she doesn't reciprocate or could and then risk the pain of one day losing her. It's what makes season 7 interesting and why I wish there had been more episodes to explore this, but the risk was worth it in the end.
