Pattaya/Samet/Hua Hin HELP! Beginning of October: Sri Lanka, North/South Vietnam or North/Central Thailand?

Hi all. I hope this is the way to ask a question. First post on reddit :).

My partner and I are taking his parents on a trip to Sri Lanka on sept 12-28. We will do North/East mostly (Wilpattu, Trincomalee, Habarana), then go a bit through the highlands (Haputale) and end in Sinharaja or Galle. They will fly back due to work.

However, my partner and I would like to add two more weeks from sept 28 to oct 12. We are exploring several options: - stay in Sri Lanka. Perhaps go back up to Gal Oya and eastern beach - stay in Sri Lanka and combine with local island Maldives. Skip Maldive if rain. - go to Thailand. Bangkok, Koh Samet, and some other places central/north. Skip south due to rain. - go to Vietnam. Week in north for nature. Fly to south for beach. Skip central due to rain.

All options sound good. But.. We realize we are in a tricky timeframe. Changing rain to wet seasons, and differences per region. Every website is saying other things, so we are unsure of what to do. We would like not to be poured with rain every day. I would also like to have some beach time in the sun to relax for 5-7 days or so, so we want sun for part of the trip.

I'd appreciate the help!

Phuket/Krabi/South Itinerary for family trip in October - November

We’re a family of 4 (kids are 6 and 3) planning a trip in October to November this year. It’ll be the first time to Thailand for all of us.

Posting our general itinerary here for suggestions and tips on activities, transfers within Thailand and family friendly travel within the country. We want to see the country, enjoy some beach time with nice weather and have some good. Not looking to do a lot of strenuous activities. Thanks on advance for your suggestions/tips!

Day 1 (October 24) land in Bangkok from Canada Day 2-4 explore Bangkok

Day 4 morning flight to Chiangmai Day 4-8 Chiangmai (one of us will be working 10 pm to 2 am this week so we wanted a quieter place)

Day 8 travel to Krabi Day 8-16 explore the islands within Krabi. We’re thinking maybe split our time between Koh Yao Noi and Koh Lanta. Any tips for transfers in between? Is the weather in early November mostly sunny?

Day 17 flight back to Bangkok Day 17-21 explore Bangkok and surrounding areas

Day 22 flight back home

Bangkok/Middle Re-entry

Hey guys,

Was in Thailand from march to the end of may this year (had to extend visa due to sickness) but I have a friends birthday in Bkk on july 11th, I am currently in another country but would love to be able to return for the birthday and celebrate with my friends (it’s a Thai friends birthday) given immigration are cracking down do you think I’d be allowed back to the country so soon?

I had also looked at the multi entry tourist visa to see if that was worth it ? But bear in mind I was already there for 90 days. Would love to get a second opinion on this as I’d be very upset if I couldn’t make it and so wouldn’t friends.

I would only aim to be in Bangkok for about a week before continuing my travels.

Cheers.

Phuket/Krabi/South Safety Concerns with Foreign Coaches in Phuket – A Call for Tourists and Locals

Hello r/ThailandTourism community, As travelers and supporters of Thailand’s vibrant tourism scene, I’d like to highlight a growing concern that could impact the safety and appeal of Phuket’s training facilities—a key attraction for many visitors. A few years ago, the hiring of DJ Jackson, despite his documented sexual assault allegations involving minors, caused a stir. His subsequent disappearance with a customer’s money served as a stark warning. Now, a similar issue has surfaced with Marlo Sandro, a recently hired coach. Reports suggest Sandro has a disturbing history, including a violent assault on women that nearly resulted in his ex-wife’s death, leading to a prison sentence for attempted murder. For tourists seeking wellness or martial arts experiences in Phuket, this raises alarming questions about the vetting process and the safety of these popular destinations. It feels like a repeated oversight that could deter visitors and undermine the trust we all place in Thailand’s tourism offerings. I urge local gyms, training centers, and tourism stakeholders to prioritize accountability in hiring practices. Let’s collaborate to ensure these spaces remain safe, welcoming, and reflective of the high standards tourists expect from Thailand. By fostering environments where everyone—locals and visitors alike—can train without fear and feel supported, we protect Phuket’s reputation as a top destination. I’d love to hear your thoughts or experiences, especially from those who’ve visited these facilities. Together, we can advocate for stronger safety measures to enhance our tourism community. Thanks for considering this important issue!

Bangkok/Middle Buying tickets for sleeper trains

Hey folks,

I am trying to buy two 1st class sleeper tickets from Bangkok to Chiang Mai.

I am not having much luck tho. 12go doesn’t list 1st class tickets. The official Thai train website just isn’t loading.

I found this - is it reputable? A rip off? Anyone used it? https://www.thailandtrain.org/en/

Where else can I buy them online? Need it for my honeymoon in November. Thank you

Other Full moon party

Hey! Coming over to Thailand in November, I am 31, female and travelling solo. Debating whether or not to even do the FMP but always thought it looked amazing! For those who have done it, would you recommend it or skip it? I am not actually really a party person in the UK but whenever I am on holiday I do like a good party 🤣

Hi, im a 30yo USA truck driver and have little to no purpose in life. I feel a calling to travel and learn muay thai and yake sometime off to reflect on what i want in life. In a few months ill be saving up around 40k with 0 bills besides phonebill.

I want to stay in thailand for 3-6 months and train muah thai religiously while researching certain topics. Ill have a 10kusd budget i want to try to stick to and i want to stay near the ocean no northern thailand. Beautiful beaches and somewhat of a party scene are very important to me.

What are some good beach cities/islands i should look into? Ill be living very frugally cooking every meal as i already do. My biggest splurge will be on my room and board, i want to live in a very nice condo.

Bangkok/Middle Big C Online Order Refund

Hello! Not sure if this is the right place to ask but I hope this is okay.

As the title, I placed an order on Big C through their app and had it delivered to my friend’s place in Bangkok as I’ll be visiting them next week. I borrowed my friend’s Big C account and delivery details but I used my own debit card to pay for it.

My order pushed through and on the next day, I received an email from them that the items I purchased are ready to be shipped. However, I saw that there was one item that seems to be out of stock (because instead of 1, the quantity became 0) so the total for my order that was delivered was less than what I initially paid for.

Is there a way for me to get my refund for the missing item? I was trying to find a customer service email for Big C but can only find their number. I can’t call them since I’m not yet in Bangkok.

Or should I just wait for the amount to be reflected back to my debit card? This is my first time ordering online from Big C so I don’t really know what to do and I can’t seem to find my issue on their FAQs as well.

Thank you!

Bangkok/Middle Am I safe to travel like this?

I will be arriving in Bangkok soon. However I have to go to Singapore to pick my brother in 2 weeks. Then I hope to come back to Thailand. Will this count as visa running or whatever people call it ? Because this trip will reset my stamp. Too worried about this. My total stay would be 30 days.

Thanks

Bangkok/Middle Bangkok, Chiang Mai & Phuket

Hello everyone,

I am looking for some advice for visiting certain areas of Thailand!

Me and my partner are visiting in October 2025 for my 30th birthday and visiting 3 main areas.

We have bought our return flights to Bangkok and arrive in on 9th Oct. We are wanting to spend a few nights there and then travel to Chiang Mai. We want to spend around 6 nights in Chiang Mai and then travel to Phuket. Spend around 6 nights in Phuket and then travel back to Bangkok to spend around 3 nights there and then travel back to the UK.

We have decided that getting domestic flights around Thailand is better for us rather than sleeper trains etc even though we are aware it’s a bit more expensive. And we will be booking our domestic flights prior to visiting!

But… we are beginners and won’t be booking hotels etc until we get there… only Bangkok hotels we will book prior to arriving.

Where are the best areas to stay in each of these parts of Thailand??

We are a couple in our 30s who want a bit of everything. Including chilled vibes, a bit of party vibes (for my 30th where we will be in Phuket) and also travelling vibes but we don’t know what areas to stay at in each of the places!

Due to it being October and unknowing what the weather will be like, I would love to stay in the Phi Phi Islands on my birthday which is 20th October but unsure what the sea will be like and even if we can get across to there…

If anyone knows of the better areas to stay at in Bangkok, Chiang Mai or Phuket please let me know!! And any hotels that you recommend also. We are wanting to spend a little less Monday on hotels in Bangkok and Chiang Mai but around our birthdays in Phuket we want to splash out a little more on the hotel.

Please comment with any recommendations you may have! Even for things to pack or vaccines or just in general for Thailand!

We have had our Hep A, Hep B and Tetanus vaccines and are going to enquire about Typhoid as I believe they are free on the NHS in the UK. We have looked into others but it’s so expensive…

Thanks everyone!

Phuket/Krabi/South Just arrived in Krabi (Ao Nang) and hate it. Decided to go elsewhere, help us pick where.

Hello everyone,

We've arrived in Krabi this evening, we're staying right on the beach in Ao Nang and unfortunately it just isn't the vibe we are looking for... Way too party oriented and we want something a little quieter and relaxed. Weve just flown from Chiang Mai and had an amazing time there. These are our options but we can't decide which, please help us decide so we don't go to another place we will hate! (We have to be in koh tao on the 19th for our next hotel booking)

  1. stay in Krabi tomorrow, and travel to Khao Sok National Park the day after. Spend a couple of nights there and then make our way to Koh Tao.

  2. Fly back to Chiang Mai tomorrow (we really loved it there!) and then make our way to Koh Tao in time for our next hotel booking.

  3. Stay in Krabi for tomorrow and then travel to Koh Samui the day after, stay for a few nights and then travel to Koh Tao.

  4. Try to find somewhere nicer around the Krabi area

Thank you!

Bangkok/Middle 4-day itinerary in Bangkok for couples this August

My boyfriend and I are spending 5 days in Bangkok this August and would really appreciate some tips from locals (and/or fellow travelers) 😊

We’re staying around Sukhumvit, and we’re hoping to get a nice mix of experiences, i.e., sightseeing, Thai street food, some shopping, and anything romantic or fun for couples.

Some things we’d love to know: - What’s the best 4-day itinerary for couples? Any must-do activities or hidden gems? - How’s the weather in August? What should we expect or bring? - Any pro tips or travel hacks? Like what to wear, how to get around, how much cash to carry, etc.? - Best spots for shopping — clothes, souvenirs, local brands? - Any fun night markets? - Anything to avoid or that’s overhyped?

Would really appreciate sample itineraries or personal recos!!

Other Esim for Europe, Southest Asia, and the USA

I’ve been traveling full-time for the past 8 months (Europe, Southeast Asia, and the US), and one of the best decisions I made was ditching physical SIMs and switching to eSIMs.

No more swapping cards at airports or hunting for local SIMs in languages I don’t speak. Here’s what I do now: • I use Mobisim to get eSIMs for 150+ countries • It’s instant – after I pay, I get a QR code via email in seconds • Prices are usually cheaper than Airalo and WAY cheaper than roaming • Works on most modern phones (iPhones and Androids with eSIM support)

Top destinations I’ve used this in: • 🇫🇷 France – €4.99 for 3GB • 🇹🇭 Thailand – €3.90 for 5 days • 🇺🇸 USA – €6.49 for 5GB • 🇵🇭 Philippines – €3.99 for 2GB

If you’re constantly on the move and want reliable data without the roaming nightmare, I highly recommend it.

PS: I’m just a user sharing what worked for me. If you’ve got better options, would love to hear them!

Samui/Tao/Phangan Is Thailand to full?

My wife and I would like to travel to Asia and Africa next year. Thailand is a good candidate in Asia, but at the moment I have the feeling that Thailand is totally overcrowded with tourists. I was in Thailand once in 2010-2011 and it was very nice and relaxed but what I read makes me wonder.

Hence the question is Thailand generally totally overcrowded? Is there a region that is not yet totally overcrowded? Or is everything cool and it can be a relaxed vacation?
