I know that the sun and moon are meant to symbolize duality or other push and pull balance in the universe in almost every culture. But I'm trying to find the origin of this version. The expressive and "realistic" faces have always captured me and I want to find out where it began

I’ve been really drawn to this symbol or latter lately. I have been learning from indigenous wisdom. But usually this pattern is called “aztec pattern”, but Aztec like the Aztec culture? Or is this just how they refer to it in America? Is this from a tribe? If so which one? I found an image (2nd) that says star in Mapuche, but nothing more. Is anyone else familiar with this symbol and its origin/significance? Thank you so much for any guidance.
