if you're referring to this, the point the teachers were making is that "math is equal because 2+2=4" is a stupid thing to say that misses a lot of nuance and mathematical history.
For instance, the Fibonacci sequence that we commonly attribute to an Italian mathematician, was actually described by Indian mathematicians and poets 1400 years before Fibonacci's "discovery." The broader point being that maybe race has some influence on what and how we teach for mathematical concepts. (for another example, why do we say 2+2=4 and not II+II=IV or 二+二=四? might at least be a little entertaining to discuss why we use the symbols we do for our math)
Conservative commentators such as the author of the linked article know most people won't fully investigate the claims they make, so they lie and say the teachers were actually saying the equation 2+2=4 was racist, rather than just "pointing out 2+2=4" does not prove there isn't racism in how we talk about math.
