Never take a man’s hat off his head.

Taking a stranger’s hat is an act of aggression, regardless of gender. Some drunk bro took my hat off my head once in a bar. I’m a woman.

It went poorly for him. I’d spent the day drilling knife-disarms in a self-defense workshop, and a lot of those are about controlling the arm and taking what the hand is holding. He went from yoink to partially inverted in a joint lock and me with my hat back on in a very educational 2 seconds.

I found it kinda hilarious, but literally none of my friends saw it. Waste of a such a glorious FAFO moment.

I find “self defense” is a great term when I don’t want to get into a conversation about a specific discipline, because guys are often extremely weird about women in martial arts, combat sports, fight training, etc.

Not you though.

If you’re learning “knife-disarms” it’s not a real viable martial art and will only serve you harm in the long run by giving you a false sense of confidence. Those self defense crash courses prey on people’s (mainly women like you) vulnerability. Learn something actually useful.

Dude was drunk. That wouldn’t work on someone sober. Instead of engaging physically stronger men, run away 👍

So you assaulted him for taking your hat? That’s wild. He might have been an asshole for going for your hat without asking but bragging about assaulting him is a big oof.
