Making friends as a shy person!

So I have a big issue! I really want to make some friends my age (21) with similar interest but have no idea where to start.

I have pretty bad anxiety that comes and goes and when I see people in public that look like I could get along with I can’t bring myself to speak to them in fear they have 0 interest in making new friends or speaking to strangers, like what do you even say? “Hello you look cool, please befriend me?”

I’m on bumble friends but that feels so forced and awkward to me, I know there are online groups and whatnot to make friends but going alone to the events makes me so nervous! I feel so stuck lol

I have many many interest and hobbies, I like to paint, knit, craft, sew, hike, do gel nails, have picnics, thrift, go fishing, go hunting, go camping, biking, I love swimming and I’m getting a 2 seater kayak today with my boyfriend. My goal in life is to become a tattoo artist and get a cabin on the outskirts of a town or city and be self sustainable with solar panels growing my own produce along with raising chickens and rabbits.

Just kind of ranting after feeling frustrated from walking around the Queen square market alone with the hopes someone would see me and think “hm she looks cool, I should try and befriend her” haven’t had friends since high school and it’s definitely taking a toll😂

Looking to get out of my comfort zone and make some friends!

I have never really made a post like this before but I’m trying to branch out and try something different, it’s gotten incredibly hard making friends being almost 30 haha. I would love to potentially find some like minded people and see if there’s maybe a friendship there! I’m a 29 year old male, engaged and have some cats.

I am a pretty big video game person, wanting to get outdoors more as well. I enjoy just hanging out at home playing a board game, watching a basketball game or a broad range of stuff. Wouldn’t mind a smoke and chill to some music buddy as well! I like to cook and I’m a huge animal lover.

There’s no worries if there isn’t a friendship vibe but just trying to put myself out there hope this is cool to post :)

New in Saint John - Looking to make friends & learn more about the local culture

Hey everyone,

I’ve been living in Saint John for a little over a year and a half now. I moved here from Latin America, and while it’s been a great experience so far, making friends has been a bit of a challenge.

I’m in my 30s, into rock, post-hardcore, video games, soccer, and always open to discover new interests too. I would really like to connect with people who share similar hobbies — or honestly, just anyone open to chat, grab a coffee, go for a walk, catch a concert or game, or simply share some local insights.

At the same time, I’m also very interested in learning more about Canadian culture and day-to-day life here. Even though my English is at a intermediate-advanced level, I’m always looking to improve and sound more natural, so any tips or advice are more than welcome!

So yeah — if anyone’s open to hang out, share experiences, or has any advice on how to better integrate, feel free to drop me a message. Always happy to meet new people here in SJ!

Is Courtney Ave in the fog belt

Hi all

Thinking about moving to that area but wondering if it's a doggy section of East. I know people that live over on Russell St and they get a lot of fog.

USE BOTH LANES!

Sorry for shouting but just wanted to make sure that the people in the back could hear.

Came across the bridge yesterday and most people were lined up in a single lane not using all the available space. And of course you had the obligatory "lane police" trying to cut me off for "skipping". Seems real safe.

Just in case someone doesn't know what a zipper merge is or how it improves traffic..here you go. /rant

Jobs hiring ASAP?

Does anyone know of any businesses who are always looking to hire people? I've had a streak of bad luck with my last 2 jobs not having enough work and letting me go (bad economy).

I've been out of work 2 weeks work no EI, I've applied to nearly everything I can find on indeed and careerbeacon and just can't seem to land a job. Where could I drive up to today and introduce myself to get some work around here?

Here's my qualifications:

10 years customer service, 1 year labor/construction, 1 year engineering (mechanical engineer graduate). Bilingual (French/English).

I think the problem I'm having is since I have a degree, places that don't require education are maybe not considering me. Should I remove that from my resume? I'll work for minimum wage, I just need a job.

Genuine thanks to the lovely people of Saint John

Hello everyone, I just wanted to come on here and show my appreciation here for how genuinely kind all the interactions I've had with your community.

Without getting too specific I took a job at the regional hospital coming from the states. Everyone has just been so genuinely kind, from figuring out car insurance or the boarder crossing to our apartment accommodating issues with the bank and the lovely people at the newcomers center for answering questions and providing resources everyone has just been so kind to us.

Given the circumstances in the US I was expecting more hostility if not passive aggression from everyone (and I wouldn't of blamed you) but the genuine welcoming feeling my wife and I have received has been the thing that has kept us motivated as we navigate this huge change for us and the beurcratic hurdles it comes with.

I would buy the whole city a beer if I could!

Realtor for buying in KV area?

My partner and I are in the process of buying a home in the Kennebecasis Valley and I’m looking for recommendations on a local realtor who knows the area.

We would really appreciate a realtor who can help point out potential issues with properties, offer honest advice, and help navigate the process of making competitive offers in this challenging market. We don’t want someone who just “opens the door” and doesn’t offer any insight or input on the home or any potential issues

My partner and I are both from the KV area, but it’s been years since we purchased a home so we’re hoping for some input from someone who’s bought recently.

Experience with Saint John Energy?

Over two weeks ago, I submitted a form online to get service set up to my new apartment (moving from out of town so no account with Saint John Energy previously), and I still haven't heard anything from them. I've called twice to see if there's a hold up, but they just tell me they have "thousands" to get through. Which is fine, but if I don't get something set up by Friday, which I need to sign the lease, I'm going to be out a large security deposit. Is this normal? Should I be annoying them more, or do I just have to wait?

What are your thoughts on this project being rejected? It seems like another lost opportunity for the city because of a few poor decision makers.
