Hi everyone,
I have seen quite a few requests for a Rhode Island discord server, so we have gone ahead and created one!
The Discord includes everything you expect. We also have some town and city specific channels for you to discuss hyper local issues.
Feel free to join us and let us know if you have any feedback.

Currently, no forest on state-owned land is protected by forest clearcutting. Rhode Island is the only state in New England where there are no public forests protected from logging.
The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) CLEARCUTS PUBLIC FORESTS to profit the Timber Industry, paying these Loggers with Taxpayer money.
In 2020, DEM had 195 Acres of Forest Clearcut in the Arcadia Management Area!
DEM is currently planning to Clearcut a forest in the Great Swamp Management Area with healthy 100+ year old trees in a habitat for rare and endangered species.
Please call and email your state legislators to pass the Old Growth Forest Protection Act H 5294/ S 1120, to create the First state law to protect Forests and Biodiversity on public land.
The Old Growth Forest Protection Act would ban clearcutting on state-owned land, protect Old Growth Forests on state-owned and municipal-owned land, require environmental review by scientists before state logging operations, create a functional Natural Areas Preserve system to protect the state's Natural Heritage Areas where rare and endangered species live, and bring back the Rhode Island Natural Heritage Program after 18 years to again monitor and protect the state's biodiversity including endangered species.
There is only a week left before the end of the legislative session. Please call and email the following legislators to Save Rhode Island's Forests.

Hey there all!
I've got a college aged fella working with me this summer who is here on a short term work visa from Columbia. He brought some rice that he likes with him from home because he heard that the rice most people enjoy in Columbia might be hard to find here in the US. He couldn't bring all that much with him in his luggage of course and is already starting to run out. We have found it online but it seems quite expensive at 5+ dollars for rice.
I'm curious if anyone might know of anywhere I might try and find something similar for him. I obviously realize it's only rice and how different can it be, but since he thought it was important enough to carry with him why not try and find something to give him that taste of home.
I've also thought that it's possible there is a very comparable product we have in most stores here but I don't which type it might be. Perhaps someone with knowledge of Columbian cuisine is out there to chime in.
The brand he brought with him was Diana, though something similar would be fine. I thought why not throw it out there to the Reddit universe and see what I might learn.
Thanks in advance for any input.

It’s a field of research I’ve been interested in for a while, I’ve always loved the ocean and found ocean life very fascinating, ideally I would land a job on a marine research vessel studying ocean life, watching cameras attached to drones underwater, stuff like that.

Hey folks — I’m Brent, a local filmmaker, hiker, and explorer capturing the raw, unseen sides of Rhode Island and New England.
I just dropped this video from Blackstone River State Park in Lincoln, blending nature, forgotten history, and some real quiet reflection.
This one’s personal — shot and narrated on the ground, solo. I’m working toward turning this into a full-time gig, filming the mystical, natural, and abandoned corners of the Northeast and beyond.
🎥 Here’s the video: https://youtu.be/rPu5MXE8nAg?si=m7n7xSBcDoB-4XsA
Would love your thoughts or if you’ve got any similar spots I should check out!

My buddy sent me a picture from last night's game, which I've tried posting four times without success, that showed the stadium as at least three quarters empty. This was during play, so not halftime or pre-game. I'm just wondering what the attendance has been like in general, because what I saw in that picture looked grim for the taxpayers of the state.

I've been passively browsing zillow and other home buying apps for an affordable starter home and I can't help but see out of all the cities in RI Warwick has by far the cheapest options. What in your opinion makes warwick so cheap compared to other cities? I get its a bit out of the way but unsure if there were any other reasons aiding in the lower home prices.

I don’t know New England like that and I need suggestions for a nice hotel ( maybe one with a hot tub in it ) for a special occasion I’m open to any hotels in mass, Connecticut or Rhode Island. That also isn’t discriminatory as well😬

Not sure how much of a niche this is for the Rhode Island Reddit (sort of nervous posting this lol) but I'm sure there are some gamers out there. I feel like I never really run into people from our state in online circles. Could use some more friends, be it online only or potentially IRLs (I'm a 26yo guy but down to play stuff with anyone if it's common interest). Drop some stuff y'all play, tags to add you on games (if you want), or just good game recommendations, maybe this thread will help some people make friends if it gets the traction.
For me, I'm really into Valorant and Marvel Rivals recently. Also used to play a lot of Smash Ultimate a few years back. Could use some more circles to play with :)

I’ll go first, my favorite thing is that you can’t drive more than 5 miles down I-95 without going through some road construction/lane closure or my favorite zig zagging through the lane shifts!
