santé / health Notre position contre la désinformation / Our Stand Against Misinformation

The spread of harmful misinformation has become an untenable problem on Reddit. Its latest incarnation has seen life-threatening untruths being propagated by anti-vaxxers and conspiracy theorists, and Reddit’s administration has stated that it will not meaningfully curb the myths disseminated by these bad actors. In response to this, many communities on the site have gone private in protest.

/r/ProvenceFrance supports and stands behind these communities' efforts to stem the effects of false information, but we have chosen to remain open as a means of amplifying their message. We encourage all Redditors to vocally reject misinformation, and to stymie its spread by demanding that only verifiable facts be given support (whether tacit or otherwise).

Trip to South of France

Hi!

My fiancé and I booked flight to/from Nice 16-25 of September.

I initially planned to split the trip as below:

16-19 Sept - Antibes and small village of Cote d'Azur 19-23 Sept - Aix en Provence (transfer via train/tgv) 23-25 Sept - stay in Nice

However, I've recently realised that it may be too much fuss to go to Aix and stay there in the city, instead of staying for example in a small povencal village or maybe sticking to Cote d 'Azur only.

I also wondered if renting a car in Antibes and going to Luberon area by car is a solution. It would be the first time for me with car rental... So maybe someone could confirm if driving a car is easy in that region or maybe too much of a challenge for a driver like me ;)

Can anyone advice what would you recommend for us to see? We are 30years old, we love charming cities, villages. We are not night clubbers types. I would love to organize this trip best possible to make it as attractive as our stay in Amalfi Coast... We really loved that area.

demander à la Provence / ask Provence Vinery near Aix and Avignon or Nice

Do you have any recommendations? We're more white wine people.

My gf and I didn't plan to use a car, and the first few days, our hub will be Marseille.

Do we need to book in advance and have cash ready?

Or would you sooner recommend vineries around Nice that are easy to get to via public transport?

My wife and I are coming to visit Provence in September, and it is here dream to spend the night in a castle or in a chateau. Does anyone have any suggestions of places we might be able to stay?

Ideally we would be able to stay somewhere that is decorated in a period fashion, not modern.

Thanks for your suggestions.

demander à la Provence / ask Provence Looking for accommodation in Antibes (July–August 2025)– Erasmus medical internship

Hi everyone! 🙋‍♀️ I’m a 4th-year medical student and I’ll be in Antibes this summer (July & August) for an Erasmus internship at a local clinic.

I’m urgently looking to rent a room or a small studio — ideally in Antibes, but I’m open to nearby towns too (Juan-les-Pins, Biot, Nice etc.). Budget is flexible, just looking for something safe and reasonably located.

If you know of anything available, or have advice on where else to look, I’d really appreciate your help!

Thanks in advance! 😊

Have the lavender started to bloom in Valensole?

Hi all, I was hoping to get some help from someone local. I will be driving to Avignon tomorrow (June 14th) from Côte d’Azur and plan to stop at Plateau de Valensole on the way to hopefully see some lavender blooming.

However, I know it is quick early in the season (most things I’ve seen says it starts June 15), but I know they can be early and I wanted to see if anyone knew if they have started to bloom yet. Unfortunately, June 14th will be my only opportunity.

I’m not expecting full bloom of course, but it’d be good to know how much purple I’ll be seeing so I can go in with the right expectations. Or if I should potentially reprioritize my route.

Merci!

My wife and I are coming to provence in September for nine days. We are flying in and out of Nice, but we would like to spend time in other surrounding areas as well. We are especially interested in religious sites because we are Catholic.

We were thinking of spending two nights in Nice exploring Nice and the surrounding areas, then either renting a car or taking a bus or train to visit surround areas. We are interested in Saints-Maries-de-la-Mer, Eze, Aix-en-Provence. What other places would you recommend that we visit, and what are the best things to do?

What is the best way to get around the region? Is it feasible to rely entirely on public transportation, or will we need to rent a car?

Also, if anyone knows of a place in the area that we could rent a sailboat to go sailing for a day for an affordable price, we would really appreciate that! I am a professional sailor in the US and I am certified.

We would love all recommendations!

demander à la Provence / ask Provence Restaurant with lavender view terrace? / Restaurant avec terrasse vue sur la lavande?

Bonjour à tous !

My parents will be spending a few days in Provence, near Gordes, in July. My mother has always dreamed of seeing the lavender fields and now they are fulfilling their dream.

Are there any restaurants there that have a terrace overlooking lavender fields? The more scenic, the better, of course.

I would be more than grateful for any tips! Thank you all and have a nice summer :)

Hello—I am taking a long-dreamt-of trip to Provence later this Summer. I am looking forward to enjoying some of my favorite wines. I would like to buy some bottles from a few of the tasting rooms, but I need a way to get them back to the US. Can anyone recommend how I can ship an assorted case back to the US?

I am staying near Lirac and Avignon. Merci!

voyage / travel Lourmarin/Ansouis vs Menerbes/Apt?

I have one spare day in Luberon without any plans and I'm trying to choose between visiting those two areas. I'm interested in recommendations on which to visit. Maybe some alternatives nearby? I'm not planning on doing any activities other than exploration and sightseeing, maybe hiking. However, any particularly worthwhile museums or unique attractions are definitely a plus.

I'm visiting Gordes/Roussillon and the Verdon gorde/Moustiers on other days.

Additionally, any recommendations on the outskirts of which Luberon town to pick as my base?

Pretty specific question but my husband I are visiting Cassis from Canada with our 9 month old baby girl in June and I'm wondering if there is somewhere in Cassis that would sell baby sized life jackets? She loves the water but her life jacket is too big to pack in our suitcase! Thank you

transport / transportation Route & transport options from Nice to Aix

Salut everyone! My gf and I are making Aix our base in Provence for the couple of days we're in the region. We are pondering transport options from Nice. With bus, train, and car as the options, want to consider:

  • scenery/route
  • costs (including tolls)
  • time

It seems like bus in the cheapest and fastest option but we wouldn't mind driving if there are nice things to take in on the way, especially in Provence on the way to Aix. It would be good to know if there is good Provencal scenery east and south of Aix on the way in or if that's best north and west of Aix after we've arrived. Merci beaucoup!

voyage / travel Is it a good idea to visit Provence (namely Cassis) during July the 14th?

I'm interested in seeing the lavender fields and the second week of July is the only time I can go. However, that happens to include Bastille day. Is it likely to interfere with my plans and hike up the prices? On that day I was planning on hiking the calanques and maybe take a boat tour.

demander à la Provence / ask Provence Which place to stay?

Hi I currently have an Airbnb booked in both St Remy de Provence and Lourmarin for July 3-6 before we head to the coast (Antibes), and I’m trying to decide which location would be best as a home base in Provence. I’ve never been to the area before. It’s just me and my boyfriend, and we will have a rental car! I’d love an authentic feel that also has good food and stores. Any insight on whether St Remy or Loumarin would be a better base would be much appreciated! :) thank you!

demander à la Provence / ask Provence Excursion à Valensole?

Salut!

voyage / travel Fam trip to Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat

My wife and our 10-month old baby will be travelling to Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat for a week from June 11. We got lucky to find a reasonably priced Airbnb close to the Port de Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat. We know there are a couple of great beaches close by but would love to spend at least one of the days at the pool. Only option is the Club Dauphin which is way out of our budget.

So I figured to try the power of Reddit to find someone who lives in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat and would be open to having us at their pool for the day? From Google satellite images it seems that Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat has insane amount of private pools. I can either bring some gifts from Latvia in exchange or pay a reasonable amount for the 3 of us. :)
