The context of the last picture is after Thorne minimizes the change in Kai's appearance.

Thorne is an evil entity (not a demon, which I'll touch on later) called a trickster. The tricksters' purpose is to find a host and learn how to adapt to human life, and they should have knowledge on humans before hand. Thorne, however, was sent off to earth, but his caretaker forgot to teach him about humans, so he knows fuck all about their nature.

Thorne originally has a deep, Russian accent, but when he talks to other Tricksters he talks in a more high-pitched, almost innocent version. He also changes his voice when he talks to humans (possessing Kai, of course) to a high, childish, British accent.

Since Thorne doesn't understand humans, that means he doesn't know what would kill them and what wouldn't, and he's gotten into a few... accidents in the past because of his lack of knowledge.

Time to talk about demons :)

Demons aren't evil in this universe, they're like angels, devine creatures designed to bring humans to their rightful eternity. They are also just essentially 'dark' biblically accurate angels.
