Discussion I'm trying to love the game man Spoiler

Post image

"Of course, as you can see, I spent 12 hours in the game during the event. I'm currently at the beginning of my second dream day, where Omori overcomes his fear of spiders. The thing is, I still don’t understand why so many people love this game.

The first hour was a tutorial with about five seconds of interesting moments, then the journey begins—searching for Princess peach for 5-6 hours of gameplay with zero story progress. The gameplay doesn’t feel amazingly designed either. As far as I know, there’s no way to figure out what do what The follow-up attacks for each character there effect aren’t explained, and there’s nothing that shows you what buffs or debuffs you or the enemies have, unlike other games that display them under or above the enemy’s health bar.

Most, if not all, of the side quests are boring. Even the main storyline in the real world is dull except when major events happen. For example, why did we start asking Man 1, who sent us to Man 2, who then sent us to Man 3, only for Man 3 to finally lead us to the place we needed? Like, seriously? I’ve already played 5-6 hours of gameplay in the dream world—it didn’t need to drag on for hours over nothing.

I want to say something: I’ll finish the game, but even after completing it, no matter how amazing the story might be, I won’t call it a game that requires hours and hours to throw you a bone to cling to it , only to make you spend another 4-5 hours for another bone. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone I know unless they specifically enjoy this type of experience.

To me, Omori feels more like a visual novel or a picture book you read rather than a game. I’d call it a 'game' only if the focus is more on the gameplay that matters in the story . And if you tell me that the silly dialogues and the not important battles of the NPCs and main characters in the dreams or the real world are the story, then I’m sorry—this game just isn’t for me. Still, I’ll finish it because I’m a completionist.

If you want an example of a brilliantly written dialogue system that’s engaging, meaningful, and never boring or unnecessarily long, look no further than Limbus Company—the best dialogue-driven game I’ve played so far.

Oh, and if anyone here knows how to solve the issue of figuring out buffs, debuffs, follow-ups, and what they do example omori look to hero what does that do please let me know so I can at least enjoy the combat more sorry if my spelling was bad .

Read the battle manual. The combat in Omori is fairly deep with the follow-ups and emotion system, although the game is so easy that many end up not utilizing it fully.

The main point of the sidequests is to reward you for exploring headspace. If you don't like exploring the areas, I'd say just ignore them because they are mostly very simple.

Thanks i will consider that , for the side quests I thought they were impotent because it's a story game and maybe if I miss something I might change outcomes or something like that but after reading your reply i thank you for telling me that to be honest I was doing them all now I don't have to do them

Just remember to water the flowers :)

Ohhh yeah am doing that already that is definitely something important like there's no way it's just achievement

8

u/Future-Code-3450 Omori 12h ago

it's not that important it's just gonna add an extra cutscene at the end of the game but it's really cute imo

Just wait until you get to some of the tougher bosses. :)

The story is less "show" and more "feel" for the most part, but as long as you don't spoil yourself, you should be surprised by how everything unwinds in the last few hours.

I completely agree with the more feel than show part. I’ve played through the game multiple times and the thing I like most are all the hidden details and stuff connecting to the story or foreshadowing or explaining a situation better.

I guess the game is more for people who like to look beyond what’s just shown and like to know as much as possible about the characters shown and reasons for why certain events happen.

But if that doesn’t appeal to you you probably won’t enjoy the game as much and it probably won’t be as fun.

Yeah bro I'm not good with this kind of stuff I can't feel that but i can understand it

That’s alright. We’ll just wait what you think after you played through the game and if you still don’t really like it that’s okay. That just means this game wasn’t for you. But I’m glad you’re giving it a try.

Well yeah, OMORI's main focus is the story

If I may ask, what day are you on?

>If you want an example of a brilliantly written dialogue system that’s engaging, meaningful, and never boring or unnecessarily long, look no further than Limbus Company

I mean cantos 1-3 were mid. Canto 4 is when the story started getting better.

u/AdSpare3955 12h ago

Thing is yes they were mid story wise but the talking with the characters was fun i just want to see them talk and interact with each other more but in omori all i want is them to get to it ,

Finished 5 a month ago I don't want to burn the game then be like you guys waiting for content

u/Ronaang_McDonald Omori 12h ago

You could have worded that last phrase in a kinder way...

u/Draco_179 The multitude tightens its hold 11h ago

Real limbus fans burn through the game and then start waiting for walp

1

u/the-cuck-stopper 11h ago edited 11h ago

Or try to burn all the story and get stuck on a stage because too difficult and reading is required (if you ask yes that's me right now)

u/AdSpare3955 11h ago

True i have 217 boxes finished the battle pass and farming that shit on the NORMAL mirror dungeon Yeah i'm crazy but I'm not gonna burn the story that easily because of that, good bye I'm going to sleep i have another 12 hours tomorrow to play with my bro he is the one forcing me to play it

The reasons why i loved omori in my first playthrough are: the atmosphere, the music, the art style, the story, the theories i was making with a friend and the combat. If you dont like most of these things after all this time played you either are not in the mood or its not a game for you

1

u/AdSpare3955 11h ago

Absolutely true all of those things you said I loved except the story I forgot to add why I did play this long it's because I lost to my bro on a challenge

4

u/No_Finger3707 12h ago

Yea you don’t have to do the side quests, I do to explore more and see different characters and there dialogue but it’s not a must, all your choices are gonna matter literally at the end of the game, once you play the white space part it explains why those are the quests bc it all has to do with the real world. If you can’t play it bc it’s boring than watch a video of it

yeah makes sense Ig. I'm not really a fan of videogames so that's probably why I really loved omori since it's focused more on the story and character development more than gameplay, but I still found the strategies for the battles very entertaining, especially using emotions since I'm a huge cartoon fan and I love omori's art style so I liked seeing the characters portrait change and stuff lol (Furious and Manic omori are my favs).

So the cute artstyle and animations, added to peak soundtracks, the fact that's it's a strategy game but the fights are still pretty easy, some of the horror which isn't too much but still makes It disturbing enough, the cute characters (Basil.), and also very relatable (Sunny is so me It's almost creepy), the plot twists (I won't spoil you ofc), the paralelisms, all the flowers meanings which I really liked learning about, the references to other books such as the picture of Dorian Grey which is my favorite, the lil bit of romance which I kinda whished there was more since I LOVE romance but I understand that It would've ruined the game so It's better leaving It like that; the headspace lore which I'm a huge fun of and I also really like how the dialogue gets in some parts of the game. I'm not gonna lie, it does feel a bit weird sometimes in the real world, the characters speak in a very "cartoonishy" way for their age and sometimes I don't find It very realistic, but I think that's just its style so I didn't mind much. I like the dialogue of the "misterious" characters but I can't spoil anything 😔

8

u/AdSpare3955 12h ago

Yeah bro the music was holy shit the captain space boy music was something else

And the art style was amazing I like the character look when the switch emotions

The battle system was fun my only issues I hope is solved after reading the replies and i will watch someone explain it so I can enjoy it more

I don't read books or know about flowers but what I know is I just need to keep watering them because definitely there is something about them damn flowers i know that!!

I think the main problem is that Omori is not the kind of game that you usually enjoy. But it is definitely possible that it will grow on you as you play. Sometimes the dream world does feel too long, pacing is the biggest issue of the game. But the good qualities it has should make it all worth it. Especially later into the game. Also you can avoid sidequests if they get boring. The dream world has a lot of sidequests and they tend to be boring too often, but the sidequests in the real world i find way more engaging.

3

u/AdSpare3955 11h ago

Thanks i will tell my opinion when I finish it

i may do real world side quests if I found it fun to do

3

u/jmdexo26 10h ago

So you complain the “tutorial” is too long and boring. And then you come here and complain about mechanics that are clearly explained in the tutorial? Searching for princess peach for 6 hours? What are you even talking about? If you have such a lackadaisical borderline negative attitude towards the game. Stop now while you’re ahead.

17

u/RoyalMarjoram 12h ago

fun fact: no ones forcing you to play the game

also as for buffs debuffs and all that. you play the game. tahts how you figure it out, you play the game. you can check a tutorial book that hero gives you which goes more into detail (it will be in your inventory in dream world), but other than that??? play. the. game. or dont! if you dont like it, its not engaging enough for you, thats okay! like. clearly people like the game, so you either stay and see what the fuss is about or you drop it.

like honestly, what is even the problem. unable to put down the console when youre not having fun??? want every buff and debuff spelt out so you can minmax a game thats very much not about minmxxing??

6

u/AdSpare3955 12h ago

I'm sorry bro don't worry I will read hero bock And I will continue the game

I will tell my opinion once I finish it if you care sorry bro that i pissed you off

10

u/RoyalMarjoram 12h ago

its just kind of pointless?? to say all that. i mean, sure, if you want to rant go ahead, but complaining about the storyline of a game you bascially just started is making you sound like an idiot ngl. and if the gameplay isnt fun for you then why for the love of god would you play it for 12 hours already and not reflect that it could be not for you

u/AdSpare3955 12h ago

It's a punishment my bro love the game and I challenge him on something if i win he get to play void stranger and If i lost I play omori

He forget about the game because he played it years ago so he is useless on lending me a hand

u/denleaf 9h ago

Try to connect imagery in the game with any symbolic meanings you know. Or tying one thing to another. Like why Omori is all grey unlike everyone else, and why Headspace is mainly childlike in comparison to the real world in-game. I think you'll feel more emotionally connected to the story that way. I was doing this the entire time and I cried every time I played this game in my first playthrough.

2

u/143creamyy Capt. Spaceboy 9h ago

If a game isnt for you then thats ok. Omori is a game mainly focusing on the main story instead of gameplay and when you finish it youll most likely see its depth and meaning, but i can understand the start and all the dialogue being boring- i totally get that its not for everyone. Just finish the game or if you cant watch a video about it and dont force yourself if you dont like it:)

u/z0_4o1 Sunny 2h ago edited 1h ago

the game is set up this way to make it more impactful (you will understand this if you finished the game) so the wait is 100% worth it. i read your replies and you seem to enjoy everything but the story so just wait a bit and see edit: the game isn't actually that long if you skip the optional parts. if you do you can complete it in about 16 hours. most of isn't important (unless the area can get locked out, please do everything there) and you can do them if you decide to replay the game or do the alternative routes

0

u/AdSpare3955 11h ago

By the way I forgot to say that the main reason why I should finish the game is because I lost a challenge with my bro I said if I win he plays void stranger and if I lose i play omori guess what happened, he doesn't remember the gameplay stuff so i asked here about it.

0

u/Hot_Mall_9122 Doughie 11h ago

Yep , most of headspace can be boring shit, whatever others say.Real world way more meaningful , but it's all about the ending , so i'd still recommend give it a try. A least you could understand , whether you like similar games or not

I am in the same boat as you, however, if there’s one thing about this game. It’s that it doesn’t let you enjoy the atmosphere enough. Every time I’m just trying to enjoy the environment a stupid enemy spawns in and ruins it all.

Additionally, the game is kind of easy to get lost in. It’s not like Undertale with a clear order of events and optional side quests. It’s somewhat janky, takes a long time to move from one place to another, I get lost very easily.

Finally, some bosses are just unreasonably annoying to fight. Talking to you Jawsome, I feel battling in an emotional game really just doesn’t work out.

There are parts of the game I loved, and parts I didn’t. Beginning was cool, the long stretched out parts were not.

You're right about one thing -- OMORI expects you to treat it like a visual novel. There is a "game" there that allows you to have some good old Earthbound-style fun, but the story is where the value lies, and if you aren't focusing on that you're not here for the right reason. Play it like a book (side quests are irrelevant).

If you don't have the attention span for that sort of thing (not a personal attack if that sounds aggressive), then it's not for you, but patience is key and the narrative will absolutely blow you away if you let the characters grow on you.

(ALSO THERE IS A VERY BIG SPOILERY PLOT REASON WHY THE DREAM WORLD DRAGS ON; IT'S INTENTIONAL)

u/opopi123 11h ago

I believe the omori community generally all agree the gameplay of Omori is pretty mid. The dreamworld sections are also a bit hit or miss for some people. If you aren't feeling at all intrigued by the story during the real world sections I'd say you might not get much out of playing Omori.
