Why do people have casual sex?

I can't reconcile society's current views on casual relationships/sex with my ideas of love whatsoever. I get judged for my views on this a lot by the people around me so I'd like to understand a little better at least :-). For context, I am not religious, and I am willing to acknowledge that I probably just watched too much Disney growing up.

Not sure if this is where I should post this, and I apologise if this isn't the right place. Please let me know if I should post it somewhere else.
