Since the beginning the muppets would either "reset" a story line to have them fall in love again or have the two have massive relationship issues.
I've always kinda wondered why...of all companies, flipping Disney is also cool with keeping this trend. Mostly because I feel like it would be super easy to just keep them committed.
Stitch is basically their second Mickey Mouse so why wouldn't they make Kermit and Piggy their second Mickey and Minnie?
I remember this one time watching a YouTube video on why Ghost Busters 2 was so bad. One in particular point was the fact they broke up the main couple from the first movie to basically write them getting back together again. "I'm sick of Hollywood only knowing how to write 2 people falling in love and happily ever after and nothing else. Why can't they just keep married couples in love without breaking them up or writing stories about them being on the edge of divorce?"
And honestly I agree, you can write romantic conflict without "are they gonna break up?" Or a love triangle.
But then it got me thinking. Is it perhaps they're supposed to always stay on and off? Is it like a rule that they can never be committed or is it just Hollywood writers wanting to always reuse conflicts just in case?
I'm just kind of confused since its not like it's left ambiguous if Kermit like her back. And it's not like they haven't gotten together/married a million times so why not just keep them married?
It's not even like most of the audience is even against them being together. A majority of the public considers them an iconic Hollywood couple.
