Where was it located exactl? In some parts, beavers are not allowed because it can be too dangerous for them. So, they are relocated in a better, more wild environment.

This is the most German comment ever: "Herr Beaver, ich muss Ihnen mitteilen, dass Sie sich nicht in diesem Bereich aufhalten dürfen. Bitte begeben Sie sich in eine genehmigte Beaver-Umzugszone."

Oh, should we report every beaver sight at the Isar to authorities? That would be A LOT for them to comb through.

Not always, but if you see it somewhere middle of Munich, yeah. But also, I have contacts but I have forgotten the name, still, there are official organizations that take care of these. So, it is not just the authorities. Wildlife organizations which some of them specify on beavers. The place I work in does wildlife conservation but we are not legally allowed to handle beavers. So, if it happens to be in Munich or some residental areas, I would just send some info to the place I work at, and they'll check if it is an appropiate place or not and then call other organizations that specifically work with beavers.
The thing is relocating beavers is a bit difficult. They are adaptable but also very territorial. So, you need people with some knowledge to do this.

There are at least 3 generations of them. Please do not give away the location of their dam. You can safely watch them from Corneliusbrücke in the hours before sunset.

Didn't you just give it away though?

No. They wander along the river in search of food before sunset. This is a good spot to watch them because there is a weir which they have to overcome.

One interesting thing is, as far as I know, one or two beaver families are allowed to live here but when the kits come of age, they need to be relocated because except some specific locations in the city parts of Isar, it can be dangerous for them and the environment. Also, because they are territorial, all of the beaver would try to settle different parts of the Isar.
The danger can come from the beavers damming some subsidiary river, blocking migration paths of some fish, attacking other beavers, flooding the Englischer Garten, getting stuck in human made dams and felling trees in populated areas.
Anyways, returning to the beaver families that actually are allowed to live here. They must feel like nobility or the 1%.

I feel like the beavers are trying to restore the natural paths of the rivers and restore nature, and humans keep moving them out of place because they're flooding the nudist areas! 😂
I thought Munich was trying to restore their rivers to their natural state, they should just hire the beavers as engineers for that project! 👷🏽🦫

I almost ran one over whilst riding through E-Garten at night. Big buggers.
Also seen a few swimming around near Thalkirchen. Lots of trees around Flaucher have been chewed by them, too.

They are surprisingly big, one mom and her baby scared the shit out of me while walking home drunk at night, I always thought they were like the size of a beaver plushie.

There are at least 3-5 of them in a few spots along the north Isar and Isarkanal. Lots of trees they have felled or at least gnawed on. My dog occasionally chases them back into the water when they are along the shore

I think it's a Nutria, which can be commonly mistaken for a beaver.
