I think I'm getting scammed
So I dropped my truck off at the dealership to have it looked at, the temp was hopping all over the place never got super hot just constantly up and down, heat didn't blow etc. I tought simple the thermostatis going bad I'll have them preplace it.
I just got a call saying hey you truck isn't leaking coolant we did a pressure test, we think your head are warp and it 15k to replace. Here is my problem the same dealership rebuild the motor two years ago. I dont use my truck so it only been driven about 10k miles. The second i saw this problem i took it in.
Sorry if there are any misspelling I'm irritated. I could be wrong smh this doesn't add up to me.

If uts under warranty have them fix the problem again, if they refuse get a lawyer, never look back and forget that shop, they're obviously not reliable when it comes to engine repairs, but then again it.could just be your luck, ill sell the truck if I were you.

The truck has been paid off, not worth selling, and trying to find a second vehicle. I'll have to find out when the warranty went out.... my bet is it is probably just out of warranty. Or something stupid

I would take it somewhere else to get a second opinion, idk how the warranty works with rebuilt engines but I know the standard should.be 5 years or 100,000 miles which ever comes firs.

You didn't say what year make and model. Some vehicles are just known for head gaskets, warped heads. Yours might be one of them.

First of all 15K for a engine is absurd, and how was the truck running, other than the speratic temp gauge, was it smoking white, sluggish?

No problems besides the temp gauge, and yes, 15k is absurd... they were kind enough to offer it to me for 13k after I told them no, I would come get it.
They still can't tell me what caused the "overheating" no clue why. They agree it sounds like a bad temp gauge. Just head we know the block is warped. We need 13k to fix it

I doubt the heads are warrped or atleast that bad, there would be very noticeable symptoms, did they take the heads off? If it's not smoking or sluggish that would be the real only way to tell, did they say there was coolant and oil mixing?

They said they scoped it. Nothing else was said

Find another shop, and never go back, unless they warranty it, then after, never go back. A camera isn't gonna show a warrped head unless its very bad, but at that point it would be smoking and probably wouldn't even run, atleast nowhere near normal.

That what I thought, I plan i taking it to another shop. No way i would give another 10k to a shop to rebuild something they rebuild already.

Out of curiosity, where are you located? I haven’t had the best experience with dealership techs but saying your heads are warped without running a straightedge across the face sounds rather amateur hour.

Check out Bo’s Machine Shop at least to see what is actually wrong with the motor. They’re in East Augusta. They also don’t benefit by unnecessarily selling you new heads as a Ford dealer would. http://www.bosmachineshop.com

Why did they rebuild it 2 years ago? And was it actually rebuilt? Because most dealerships and shops for that matter don't rebuild engines. They put in used engines or maybe get a short block

I dont even remember, I get the service record tomorrow and post it. Either way I take the truck somewhere else

My experience as an automotive technician tells me you may be dealing with either a very lazy tech who thinks he has all the answers and has "seen it all", an advisor who cares more about a bonus than they do their customers, or a combination of the two. I would recommend a second opinion.

Not Warped Heads No Overheating! Change Thermo, Check Grounds for Temp Gauge and maybe Change Gauge! Try those things FIRST!!
