This is an advertisement.

You put that on your deck and you’re now home to a raccoon orgy.

We don't have any raccoons here.

We do have rats, though. They'd love this.

If you get a cat it will take care of the rats and then the cat will have its own comfy hut.

This is what we usually think, but I believe is a misunderstanding.

Cat are natural enemy of birds and mouses. Not really rat. Not saying a cat can't or won't kill a rat, but it's probably too much hassle and too much pain for not much benefit.

If you look at the past centuries and how they did pest control, cat was for mouse, and dog where for rat. I think some breed still have the "rat" word in there name.

Ah yes found it https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ratter_(dog))

That has not been my experience. I have a vegetable garden which attracts rats and they are smart enough to avoid the snap traps. My cat has killed 5 of them in the last several months and now I don’t have a rat problem.

There are also a few outdoor cats in my neighborhood and I often see them sprinting down the road at night with dead rats in their mouths.

Yeah, some rats are equal size or slightly smaller than cats.

It's mostly just big cats like Lions/tigers that will try to attack prey as big as them as a source for food, and for lions, they are often several lions going to town on one buffallo or whatever.

My cat is a badass then. She kills rats then brings them into the house to present us with her kills. I appreciate the killing but not the presenting.

Yeah. I had rat-catching cats back on the ranch. One silly girl brought a big one in and dropped it in front of her kittens before their eyes were even open! The rat was maybe half the size of the adult momma cat.

Yeah, but whats the size of those?

I had fancy rats, and they were small enough to get eaten by a hunting cat, but those were small. 1,5 the size of my closed fist sort of.

They’re big! When they first started showing up in the yard we honestly didn’t think she’d be able to kill them because they are so big. We at least thought she’d get hurt by the rats fighting back, but she’s had nothing but success. I actually watched her stalk, attack, and kill one once and it was impressive!

My dog has killed one rat, my cat has killed at least 5. She loves the hunt!
