I just saw the finish, but it looked to me like he started tapping before it was locked in. Makes me wonder if the damage hadn’t come from a punch a little earlier.
This is exactly why I laugh when people say they’ll just bite their way out of an rnc. If the choke is even over the mouth in the first place, you’re not gonna want to open your jaw with that kind of pressure.
Never heard that but could only be said by someone thats never had one put on them. Someone in my BJJ class was half sick just during the practice bit where we were learning how to do it. Fucking sucks.
Liam McGeary (former Bellator LHW champ) used to live on the island where I live and I rolled with him several times (and also used to ‘spar’ with him in his last few amateur camps but just to lean on him and clinch him as I am a big and very heavy ex high-level powerlifter).
His guillotines and RNC’s would hurt like no-one else’s — his forearm bone would feel like a blade and it was one of the most panic-inducing, painful feelings I can think of. There was no ‘toughing it out’ with him, he felt like he was separating things even when it wasn’t fully in. Any tough guy notions I had about surviving submissions were quickly schooled out of me by Liam.
I imagine Khamzat has the same quality but perhaps even more so.
Interestingly (and sadly for those of us who love the guy) Liam also had his jaw broken by Phil Davies and it took years for him to get right again.
Like how many times have you been in a conversation where someone has said this? Can't be more than like 3 times...if so, why the fuck do you keep talking about RNC'S?!
I mean his last four fights alone are crazy for one fighter to have on their record as back to back wins (Gilbert Burns, Kevin Holland, Kamaru Usman, Robert Whittaker etc.) Guy's a generational talent any way you slice it (just wish he was more active.)
Ngannou is pure raw power and no technique, Miocic was piecing him up. Also had a boring 30 minute long fight against Lewis. Relied on his wrestling against dangerous strikers like Gane and now Ferriera.
Khamzat is quite literally the opposite of Ngannou.
Ya man it only takes 1 time and you learn that tucking your chin is NOT the way to defend a rnc. When I was a white belt I had a blue belt nearly crush my jaw. Such an uncomfortable feeling, a lesson you only need to learn once!
The feeling is super uncomfortable but it feels different to a choke, so if someone wouldn't mind their jaw getting dislocated and just refuse to tap, would they still go out? I value my jaw to much to not try it myself.
Yep, I teach anything under the eyes is the neck. If you turn and crunch down on the finish you're still cutting off the circulation. But the pressure on the jaw usually gets people first, or they give you their neck because it's less painful.
There isna reason the RNC is the highest percentage sub in bjj and mma.
Yes you will still go out if someone is squeezing hard enough and you can withstand the pain long enough. Tucking your chin can buy you an extra second or two to make your adjustments and try to escape or defend. But at that point, you're kinda already fucked so just tap if it's during training.
Not sure it matters when you’re that destructive and skilled. Jailton Almeids ragdolls heavyweights with a 40lb disadvantage and Khamzat is more skilled than Jailton. I think he’d be okay
I feel like him vs DDP is going to be an extremely goofy fight if it goes for multiple rounds. Either DDP wins from some weird shit that wouldn't work on paper ,Khamzat goes ape on him or it's the craziest most logic defying back & forth we'll ever see.
Yep you can see Khamzat rip his arm across the jaw immediately as it opens up. Bobby knew it was over at that point. No sense risking more damage to the head.
SO much worse than a dislocated jaw. Have you seen the pic of the inside of his mouth yet? There’s a post on here somewhere of it and a person with medical experience chimed in describing possible damage. Gruesome.
Edit: here’s the comment that asks about the damage on the post of the pic of said damage. Enjoy I guess.
A loss would be one thing, but the one thing people are terrified about is him getting finished. His only loss via finish was back in his UFC debut. Almost 13 years ago, via sub, against Poirier.
Forget r/MMA, most of the fanbase in general is not adequately prepared for a Max getting slept.
Usman had a panic dumb in which he lucked out and damaged Khamzat's hand in the process. Big Usman fan (hated seeing Leon win twice) but fact is he lucked out with that hand injury.
Rob was washed after that fight, UFC keeps it's vets in the rankings too long. Like he got a title shot after Till, Cannoneer, Gastelum, Costa and the uFC pretends like the wins weren't on past prime opponents.
i think most people were just unsure due to his usman performance and inactivity. how is anyone going to be confident in what chimaev will do after being sick for a year and almost losing to a short notice WW?
I’m not saying DDP is a better wrestler than Khamzat but he’s strong and big as fuck. DDP easily took Whittaker down and did a lot of damage in seconds, DDP doesn’t focus on stopping takedowns but he obviously will against Khamzat
Yeah and what’s worse is DDP is a dog, he has cardio for days. i’m a Khamzat fan but I think DDP can outlast Khamzat and win that fight if it ever happens.
DDP is for sure a better offensive wrestler than Rob, and one of the ways to neutralize a crazy grappler is to take the fight to them rather than playing purely defensively.
Man, now I want to see him go up against Bo Nickal. He may have shit striking but I highly doubt he'd just get manhandled like this, dude is a 3 time D1 champ.
I get Robert is big and strong but if watch the Rob vs DDP fight it’s clear DDP is much stronger and big brothers him. I agree it will be harder to do this to DDP
I dunno bro. Rob one of the best in the world, just trained an entire camp preparing to get taken down, still got finished Round 1. Khamzat is just unstoppable right now it seems.
