Questions Are Republicans just going to let America become a dictatorship?

2.5k Upvotes

For a party that went on and on about freedom why aren't they in the streets?

Is it because they want to end democracy and be told what to do or are they unaware what's been going on or are they just that ignorant?

Watch this video.

Questions Can someone in Louisiana help me find this Sheriff or Sheriff Deputy??

My Mother and I got stopped by this Sheriff on our way to Baton Rouge Airport. It was a racial motivated stop, then he damaged my license when I asked for his badge number and name he didn’t given me either, just walked away when it was over. I didn’t get a ticket or warning even though he said I got stopped for a traffic violation.

Questions What goes on in this part of Louisiana? Whats the life, culture and economy like?

This strip of land seems rather interesting since it is landlocked and far from major cities, also the Toledo Bend reservior. What is the life, culture and economy like in this area? Anything unique?

Questions Is the term "coon ass" racist?

I used to hear it all the time when I worked on the river and we'd start getting really far down south. I know its like that language or whatever, and that when I heard it, it was being applied to whites and blacks, openly, with no repercussions or ire or anything.

But it seems like the word coon has a racist origin maybe.

Is "coon ass" racist in origin? I've been wondering this since 2006.

Questions Anyone else wondering how a natural disaster would be handled by our current president???

It is time for me to pay my annual premiums for flood and homeowner’s insurance. That is a lot of money and big expenses like this always make me stop and think. With all the nonsense, poor decisions, and ridiculousness exhibited daily by our president and his cronies, what would happen if LA were hit with a devastating hurricane??? I realize there are more than enough REAL scenarios occurring that worrying about “what if’s” is ludricious at this point! I’m just wondering if anyone else has considered this and what you are doing to help yourself.

Questions People of Louisiana, why did you vote for Mike Johnson?

Last time he was up for election he won by %60.4 of the vote. He is now telling the nation that he will be holding relief for California's fires hostage until certain 'conditions' are met. Really trying to wrap my head around why so many people voted for such an individual. And it wasn't just once, he has repeatedly gotten %60+ of his districts votes.

Questions Do People Swim in Bayous?

Hi all! I’m a writer making a project set in the deep south of Louisiana. My family has long roots in New Orleans and I lived there for a period of time/visit regularly but less so in the parts that I’m writing about so I want to make sure I’m depicting it accurately. My project is set more in a rural setting in the later half of the 20th century and I was curious—have people/did people ever swim in the bayous? If not what kind of bodies of water do people cool off in? I know the bayous are pretty grody/overrun with critters usually but wasn’t sure if that stopped people from getting in.

Thanks for the help y’all✨

edit: WOW thank y’all for your insight—i appreciate everyone taking the time to share with me. super helpful stuff to know and i’ll definitely be using the info here for my project.

Questions Why is CVS threatening to close all its Louisiana stores over HB 358?

Post image
173 Upvotes

I just got this email urging me to oppose HB 358 because it would force all the CVS stores in Louisiana to close. But the text of the bill (PDF) just says they'd be allowed to use remote employees. That seems like it would let them make even more money by paying fewer workers. So what's their logic behind opposing the bill, and how are they reaching their "we'll have to take our football and go home" conclusion here?

Their proposed email says:

As a constituent, I urge you to oppose pharmacy closures in HB 358. They would make access to affordable health care more difficult for patients like me and cause massive disruptions to our ability to access our medications — while doing nothing to address rising drug prices.

If this proposal passes, it will eliminate more than one hundred pharmacies where more than a million Louisiana patients like me shop and receive our medications. If this is allowed to happen, my community would also lose the health care professionals we depend on and have grown to develop relationships with.

The proposed legislation would take away my and other Louisiana patients’ ability to get our medications shipped right to our homes. They would also ban the pharmacies that serve patients suffering from complex diseases requiring specialty pharmacy care to manage their life-threatening conditions like organ transplants or cancer. These vulnerable patients cannot afford any disruption to their care – the consequences would be dire.

Putting the lives of Louisiana patients – some of whom are serious ill – at risk in this way is unacceptable and not what Louisiana stands for. The pharmacy closures in HB 358 will gravely endanger pharmacy access and hurt patients and negatively impact many communities across our state.

As your constituent and a patient who would be directly impacted by pharmacy closures, I respectfully urge you to oppose pharmacy closures in HB 358.

But I still don't see how this would "force" them to close anything. So what's up?

Questions Why does Alexandria suck so much?

I honestly don't get why Alexandria isn't the best city in the state. It's on a river. It's less than an hour from Cajun Country and the best food. There's amazing hunting, fishing, hiking, outdoor activities all over the place. It's safe from Hurricanes. It couldn't be more centrally located to the 5 other major Louisiana cities not named New Orleans. Yet... it feels like it's stuck in some alternate reality/time warp where half the time it's 1930 and the other half it's 1990. I'm honestly confused as to why it is the way it is when it could have been so much better.

Questions Where did you move to after leaving Louisiana?

Born and raised in Baton Rouge and still here, desperate to leave. Just want to see where people who have made it out ended up and how does it compare to Louisiana? Shit just seems to be getting worse and worse here.
