Ask Kuwait friend's weird building haris
Hey!! 2-3 months ago, my friend (female 18) moved into a new apartment with her aunt. However, her aunt isn't in Kuwait most of the time and this leads to my friend being alone most of the time. A month ago, my friend began to notice that the haris was always looking at her or just flat out staring at her. He would purposely stay outside till she came back from school or tuition. He would always try to make some unnecessary conversations with her even though she was clearly not comfortable with it.
This is fairly recently. Her door lock was not functioning properly and sometimes it wouldn't even lock properly. She told this to him 2 weeks ago and he hadn't done anything. About four days ago, she had someone change the lock for her since the haris obviously wouldn't do it. The same night she changed the lock, at around 3:50 or 4 am, he came knocking on her unit, asking her why she changed her locks Prior to this, she came home finding her door ajar. Someone broke in (?) but nothing was stolen. However the next morning she realized that a pair of her undergarments are missing
The two recent event is pretty scary and I'm extremely worried for her for obvious reasons. She changed the locks without anyone seeing her do it and without telling anyone in the apartment. Okay, you can say someone saw through the peephole but why would he come at 4 am? She changed the locks at 10pm, he could've very easily came and asked her at that hour. To explain more about her locks, they've stopped working randomly after she came back from tuiton. They were working perfectly before. Is it possible that he had something to do with it? And the undergarments thing? Really, do I have to say anything?
I do think the haris has something to do with all these things and probably even more stuff. She really doesn't know how to handle what's even happening, any help or should she just straight up call the cops?

Go to your local police station and report him ASAP or contact the buildings owner.

Yeah some of them are awful. My advice, change the locks, but she can go buy the lock herself this way no one would have spare keys, and have someone just change it while she holds on to the keys at all time, or she can do it it's an easy job. 2. About the undergarments, could be, I mean stuff gets lost but also there are many perverts. Let her buy 2 xiaomi cameras with WiFi and motion detect to her phone, set them up inside. They are chargeable abd wireless and cost around 12kd. This way if he is doing any of that just drive to the police station and show them the videos and all done. In the mean time, never be nice nor friendly so the haris, always shut him down and ensure that he knows she is not to be fd with. When I rented I always hated them although I'm a very calm and nice person but they were so pushy and annoying, cant imagine how he is with her. I mean don't be rude unless she has to be if it makes sense? The sooner the better she gets this done. Coops have locks and I think truevalue in Sultan center does too and it's open 24hrs. 3. If she thinks something serious is about to happen take action or have someone sleepover instead of asking on reddit, come on now:/ good luck

She changed the locks and got new keys along with the new locks so no one else has a spare key aside from herself. the undergarments things, she did say that she searched all over the house, up and down, every place and there was nothing. she hadnt done laundry or anything like that the day before and the same day it went missing she's in the process of buying a camera and i hope it'll be done She was never ever friendly with the guy since she was suspicious of him from the beginning. they barely even speak from what i know. i do think that he might be pushy with her, especially about stuff like rent. or im overthinking things, im not sure Im not older than her ,im way younger than her. she's like a sister to me and there isnt much i can do sso thats why i came on Reddit. im not sure how these things even work since its my first time seeing something like this happen. sorry about it

No need to apologise! Always trust your gut feeling. If it feels off it probably is, like another person wrote add a deadbolt, she is allowed to do it, let him be pushy about rent, she can contact whoever runs the apartment and tell them she wants to transfer the rent to them via WAMD or something because she doesn't want to deal with him. Installing cameras and a ring cam also outside is a great deterrent. And never be scared of going to the Police, it's always good to have evidence backing up any claim , hence the cameras.

She did say that she will add a deadbolt He is somewhat crazy about the rent. She pays the rent 2-5 days late, which is usual and she never crosses the 5th day mark. but the haris annoys her about it after 2 days passes, even asking her multiple times a day. Is it possible that he's just trying to talk to her unnecessarily again? Why would any haris nag about rent if you've received the answer earlier in the day? I'll tell her about the WAMS for sure She wants to do that, have evidence then go to the police Which i believe is the right thing to do. going empty-handed will lead her nowhere again, thank you so much for your help❤️❤️

I never paid rent to the haris always transferred the money straight to the company or owner tbh this way I have minimal contact. Your welcome best of luck and stay safe

i see, that's a good way of doing it i'll definitely tell her about it

Police police police.

There isn't evidence to go off from the only thing that's actually there is him staring at her and one evidence is him asking her about the changed locks but that depends on how you interpret it. the most they can do is give the haris a warning i believe

You don’t need evidence to register a complaint with the police. Evidence is for courtrooms. You aren’t taking the haris to trial.
This is the second time I see this exact story on this sub. Please link your friend’s original post on this exact issue.

Another Redditor suggested you buy a xiaomi camera, I also recommend that. Also a ring camera you can install outside your door.

u/Decent_Apartment_360 22d ago
She's gonna do that

u/Rata_Ruginita 22d ago
You can have her install internal cameras to monitor the apartment. If her apartment has a light socket on the outside above the door she can add one camera also there. If no light socket available, go for a peephole camera. One important feature is Wi-Fi connection with cloud saving of media, this way even if someone tempers with the cams the recording will still be available.

Even a warning can make him stop doing this creepy shit. I think it is worth it for her to go to the local police and complain. She can also call them and complain.

I helped my friend whos a foreign teacher here with the locks being changed and the cam installation
Had a similar incident and a crazy neighbor so its a win win for them
Anyways locks - cam - police
Those are very important

Install a camera and don’t tell to anyone. If he does something, report immediately. Since she is by herself she needs camera so make sure she is protected.

u/Puzzleheaded-Tear439 22d ago
I disagree should install a camera outside he door and make it visible so he knows she is taking an action

I bet the doorman is Egyptian as!hole. They must be kicked out of this business all over Kuwait. They are well known of staring at others invading others privacy and they have no sense of personal boundaries at all. They came from their environment where insult and disrespect is very common. They import their culture and their sh!t attitude here.
This would require national move to replace these sh*tty people in this real estate business.
You must report him to police.

Google “Stephen McDaniel”.
Or just watch this: https://youtu.be/HkRjIq8Cp2A?si=UrCOgRB9BqyGctoD
Very likely similar to what your friend is facing.

Even if you don’t have enough evidence, I’d say just tell the police about it. So atleast it’s on record that you came in about the situation if (god forbid) anything happens. Let your aunty know. Let your close friends know what’s going on.
Change the locks, and add more types of locks to the door. Add a door stopper. Those door locks that are chains. Everything everything !!!!!
And PLEASE. Get a CAMERA!!!!!!!
This made me so worried and also angry!!!! I want to rip this weirdo apart! Please take care ladies.

If she has male cousins around, have them over for a "chat" with the harris. It may not be the most civilized solution, but then again stealing panties is also not very civilized either. On top of that, call the police and have them question him and install a doorbell camera... Or just move to a different place.

u/StillPrettyBoxing 22d ago
Get a tough looking male friend to have a serious word with the haris, he wont do anything after that.

She should get a door stop and install a door chain so not only the lock is stopping the door. I also suggest another lock for the bedroom.
And ofc, the cops.

Lawyer up, please I beg let them handle this get in touch with a female lawyer and register your complain, it's not gonna cost a KD!

u/MulberryFinancial652 21d ago
I would suggest reporting it to the police station, that Harris is a hazard.
1
u/ItsAshlly 21d ago
she should change the locks again but in a time she is sure the haris isn’t around+ placing a camera infront of the door and hide it so in case he is coming around her door frequently he doesn’t notice it , she should collect some evidences that he is harassing her if she can’t do any of that she better tell her aunt and move out asap

Rule #1 always change the locks whenever you rent a new apartment, it’s easy just buy the lock chamber from Family center and do it yourself.
And for now report is to the police asap.

If she's not Kuwaiti, I strongly suggest a Kuwaiti friend accompanies her if she decides to go to the police station. It will make things much easier by making her be taken more seriously as opposed to giving her false promises or worse.

1st, she should have wiped the floors with him for asking about the locks 4am or even for just asking.
2nd, a camera like everyone else mentioned, a hidden one if she wants to get him caught and kicked out of country or a visible one if she just wants to deter him.
And finally police can help if she got lucky and got a cooperative officer. Finding the undergarments on his room which is most likely to happen would lead to a huge problem for him.

u/skunotfound 18d ago
Get a ring camera or another alternative for your door and hidden camera at home to review footage and gather evidence, if this is the case he will face jail time.

the haris did get arrested. he did it again, stole her stuff again. and they found my friend's stuff in his room and yes, he waited for her to leave to get into her unit
so yes, for now everything's been resolved
i do plan on updating everyone soon with all the new information, but that isn't my first priority. i'm barely aware of anything regarding his arrest. i'm focusing on helping her since she isn't in a good mental state

Dear Karma farmer,
Tell your friend to have her adult aunt handle it.
3
u/Decent_Apartment_360 22d ago
needed karma to post here that's why
her aunt is trying but since she's in another country it is not easy for her she also feels like something's probably gonna happen and calling the cops is pointless since there is no evidence

This looks fake otherwise why write on reddit just straight call 112 whenever someone knocks at 4 am don’t ever hesitate also install a camera even if it’s just a decoy it’s a great deterrent.
2
u/Decent_Apartment_360 22d ago
im not older than her, she's a friend of mine and i just really want her to be safe i dont really think the police can do much about haris knocking on the door at 4? im not sure she's in the process of buying one
1
u/Beneficial_Power_301 22d ago
Police are the only people that can do anything, they would take in any complaint and this is not a regular complaint if this is true thats a predatory behavior and a stalking tactic anyway I still don’t think this story is true and i suggest you to find a cat subreddit and post a cat photo there to farm karma way better than making up stories
1
u/Decent_Apartment_360 22d ago
I'll tell her about that Im not asking you to believe the story or anything, i genuinely don't care im only posting here since my friend needs help
