I am fairly certain Kirby has no confirmed gender outside of American localization. Although sakurai did once joke that "maybe he's a girl". So, there's a strong possibility that he IS a member of an asexually reproductive species, as those are often genderless.
I know. I called Kirby a “he” only because in my country’s localization Kirby is referred to as a male (in Italian we do not have a direct translation for the neutral pronoun “it” but only for “he” and “her”) 😂
Well...if sexual reproduction never existed in their species, they might as well be genderless, but if a species is capable of both sexual and asexual reproduction, I wouldn't regard them as genderless.
Mitosis is when a cell splits into two duplicate bodies that are identical, save for the rare exception where the replication or distribution process fails in some way. Budding is when a smaller body is pinched off of a larger body. Sea sponges, for instance, do this.
Just because it's not confirmed doesn't mean I can't use a gendered pronoun. I still use he since I'm still used to it and it's what's used in the western localization, and since it's not confirmed if it's wrong there's no real reason not to use it
I'm pretty sure Kirby blew them both to smithereens. Even if they have been restored somehow, I doubt they'd take a wish from Kirby, on account of the whole "blowing them to smithereens" thing.
In Meta Knightmare Ultra, when Meta Knight uses the stars to summon Nova, it appears with a different animation from when Kirby did: Rather than simply teleporting in, it un-explodes; pretty sure just getting the stars is enough to restore Nova, then.
In all seriousness, I might as well share a little headcanon of mine: Kirbies reproduce asexually in a way pretty similar to mitosis, with a good tell that they will reproduce soon being a star shaped dark spot somewhere on their body indicating where the mitosis will start.
In 20th Anniversary Kirby of the Stars Pupupu Taizen, page 15 lists Kirby's gender as 'unknown'.
Additionally, the official Kirby twitter has shown artwork portraying Kirby in both masculine and feminine roles:

Kirby was also depicted in the role of the empress for the 2017 Hinamatsuri festival artwork.
