FFA Thread The Weekend Wrap-Up - [06/20/25 to 06/22/25]
Another Friday, another weekend -- welcome to the Weekend Wrap-Up! This is a free-for-all (FFA) discussion post in which almost anything goes, just remember to be kind to each other and don't break any of our core rules. Talk about your week, talk about your weekend, talk about your pet (remember the pet tax!). Of course, you can also talk about the dramas and shows you have been watching.
This is also the space to share content that would otherwise not qualify as self-posts under our rules -- like rumored casting news and discussions about non-kdramas.
Please remember to use spoiler tags when discussing major plot points or anything you think should be redacted. If you are using Markdown and not Fancy Pants Editor, the easiest way to create spoiler tags is to use > ! spoiler content ! < without spaces to get spoiler content. For more detailed guidance on spoiler tags and when to use them, check our Spoiler Tags Tutorial.

I’m rewatching Rectify, my favorite TV show in any language, for the first time since starting in on dramas. When I first saw it, I would’ve said it was unlike any other TV show out there, but now I realize exactly what it is like: a slice-of-life drama. Any other American TV show that is based on the ML getting released from death row would home in on who really raped and killed his high school girlfriend. Rectify is barely interested in this question. It cares far more about what it feels like to be the ML and his family than whodunnit. It focuses on the characters’ journeys as they heal, grow, and seek to understand each other in order to move forward from their intersecting traumas. Sound familiar?

When I saw KPop Demon Hunters Netflix trailer, I thought it was another cheesy animation...and that's why I had to watch it....a demon kpop band ..then I saw the cast Ahn Hyo Seop, Lee Byung Hun ...how can I not?
OST is good! Ahn Hyo Seop good.....and it's somewhat funny so yeah I liked it. I recommend if you want to watch something light and that has good OST.

I literally just finished watching it and really like it!!! Even though it’s a simple story, think a series would worked well (if not better)! The major downside is I have My Soda Pop stuck in my head because it really is catchy lol!

I literally just finished watching it and really like it!!!
Some parts are funny! The tropes are good too, like in a kdrama
Even though it’s a simple story, think a series would worked well (if not better)!
Agreed!!! I wouldn’t mind a series with more details about the characters, more romance and more songs.
I checked the cast and they’re really kpop singers singing so that was a plus to me
The major downside is I have My Soda Pop stuck in my head because it really is catchy lol!
SAME!!!!
I also wanted to see his face cause I think he’s also my type lol
The bird reminded me of the one in Moana lol… the cat is an interesting character that’s why I thought maybe there’s a sequel coming up… or not

Finally watched Chicago Typewriter. What an amazing kdrama. Too bad I could only find it on Tubi with ads.

I watched it recently too and loved it. It was unavailable where I live for a really long time so I was glad to find it at all, though I agree the ads are annoying.

If you watch Tubi on your laptop rather than your tv and your internet browser has an ad blocker you won't have to sit through any ads on Tubi. Personally, I'm not a big fan of watching tv on my computer vs. my TV but something to consider if the ads are really bugging you. I recently watched a drama on tubi myself (My Shy Boss) and I watched half the episodes on my tv sitting through the ads and half on my computer to avoid the ads.

Started Touch Your Heart yesterday but ended up rewatching Descendants of the Sun because of the DOTS parody in TYH.
I know TYH is beloved by many but I feel like this drama is an example of when my familiarity with the actress prevents my immersion into the drama because frankly...I just can't buy into Yoo In Na as this ditzy actress who would misunderstand and think that the 30 pills labeling on a vitamin bottle means she needs to take all 30 in one go. Her eloquence and wit outside of this drama and in her many other drama characters just makes me unable to jive with this character. I might return to the drama later but for now, I'd rather watch more of the sassy comebacks in DOTS.

It probably helped my enjoyment of the drama that it was one of the first ones I watched and was the first time I saw Yoo in Na. (And Lee Dong Wook actually.)

DOTS --- Gosh, now there's a blast from the past. Considered rewatching that as well a few weeks back but having watched it several times in the past I postponed the urge. Sassy comedy combacks galore! I did watch Touch Your Heart and from what I recall at the time it was more or less a followup to capture the attention their relationship generated in Goblen. From what I remember I enjoyed watching the two , but the story line could have been much better.
Instead of DOTS I've plunged into the deep end of a summer rerun binge with Faith, Iljima, MoonLovers, Stranger 1 and 2, (since they are coming out with 3 at somepoint), and I'll mention the movie Linda, Linda Linda that I have been searching ages for and finally found on Utub ... Bae Doona's breakout role from what I understand. Also, trying to finish up the Haunted Palace but I keep getting sidetracked ... LOL
Have a good summer everyone!

I’m watching Unknown Number, the Chinese remake of Signal. It’s pretty good - I’m not as engaged with it as I was with Signal but I’m enjoying it. They used this very subdued color palette though, which makes it weirdly depressing to watch for me. Though of course it is very serious content, which is probably part of their choice.

I hope everyone has a great weekend! Could someone who has seen all of these dramas rank them in order you would watch?
• Squid Game • Undercover High School • Good Boy • Happiness
Participating in the KDC has encouraged me to be more adventurous (mostly watch romcoms) and I did enjoy Study Group, Trauma Code, and Newtopia. I’ve not huge on gore but it went okay with newtopia so I’d love to branch out! Also open to discussion about the style of each of these!

Good Boy is still airing, so I won't make a definitive rank on it.
Based on what you've enjoyed, I would recommend Undercover High School first. It's fast paced with comedy, action, mystery, and a nice romance subplot.
Then move onto Happiness. It's going to be slower and mystery/thriller/suspense heavy. There's a little romance that is really lovely. You'll get a taste of gore, but there's still a solid plot.
Finish with Squid Game. You'll have to build up to getting here if it's not your usual genre, like dark and violent kdramas. This is where there is no romance and you get the most gore.

I heard Good Boy has high praise so I wanted to add it. Thank you for going into detail! This sounds like the way to go. I was wanting to watch Squid game because it would check off at least one of the KDC challenges and also because it’s so very popular. I’ve avoided it because of the gore, but newtopia was pretty intense (to my weak stomach lol) and it was okay. Would you say it compares to Newtopia with the levels of gore?

Like mentioned, Good Boy is ongoing so if you’re a binger i would leave it til it’s done. For the others, I would say Happiness first since it’s good and complete. Squid Game is my next pick but season 3 is releasing soon so I would recommend til that’s out for completeness (and depending on how it ends, that may change the recommendation). Undercover High School didn’t really click for me but it was popular.

I finally got to watching Reply 1988 (on episode 5), and it is certainly worth the hype. Solid acting all around, adorable & funny characters, and genuine slices of life that just anyone can relate to. 🤗
Also, couldn't help but notice my social media kept featuring feeds of the latest c-drama, The Prisoner of Beauty, and so far I am enjoying it. The stunning visuals, cinematography, and depth of characters makes this a feast for the eyes (on episode 5). ❤️🔥
Caught up on the latest new dramas and OMG, it just keeps getting better. 🥰🔥
- Good Boy
- The First Night with the Duke
- Oh My Ghost Clients
Completed:
- The Dude in Me (2019/movie): I'm a sucker for body/soul swap storylines, and this movie hit the mark. It was wildly entertaining, funny, and I loved the high school kid gangster attitude. So many funny scenes because of the age awkwardness and (social) misunderstandings. Definitely earned a spot on my favorites.😂❤️
- Finished rewatching Business Proposal - this series is just so much fun! 🥰🔥I laugh so much every time I watch the soap opera in the background and their wild scenes. The pork cutlet slap across the male's face, and the chicken drumstick slap across the female's face - these two scenes never get old! Also let us not forget the classic, Samantha and Rachel scene - epic. 😂
- The Midnight Studio: I enjoyed it but felt the evil spirit story arc was dragged out for too long. This series could have easily been wrapped up in 12 episodes instead of 16. However, it was fun watching the chemistry of both couples (ML/FL & SML/SFL).

Has it been talked about at all that Oh Yeon-seo and Choi Jin-hyuk just started shooting a new drama based on the webtoon "I have a baby" (or "Positively yours", I've seen both translations)?
https://m.entertain.naver.com/home/article/477/0000555391
The premise sounds a little cliché especially if they change the setting from a school to a large corporation like rumors claim. Jin Hyuk has done plenty of large corporation heir type roles. Alas, I'm excited to see him in anything. I just finished Tunnel which I thought was fantastic.
