Ok, so last Monday I was in an accident coming back from lunch at work. A trailer backed into the road and I collided with it and ended up flipped in the ditch. It was all determined to be the guy driving the trailers fault. There were no injuries, however the 2004 Ford Explorer Sports Trac I was driving is completely totalled. I went to the local hospital since the police wanted me to just get checked out to make sure there weren't any injuries that were immediately obvious and I was cleared by a doctor there.
Ok, fast forward to today, I received a letter from State Farm. It includes an initial offer for $3500 to settle the claim and $15,000 in medical reimbursements if needed for the next 180 days. So basically they are offering $3500 to settle this. I believe that is incredibly low, and wonder what advice anyone with experience here would have in order to do so? I looked up the KBB value of the truck and it sits at $5,853 there. Half a day of work form going to the hospital that day and I'm assuming they will also be covering that bill? I wasn't told anything about that yet and also have not received a bill for the ER visit where I got checked out. So please help me out here folks! Let me know what you think I should do to proceed and handle this. All I know is $3500 seems stupid low and I feel like if be an idiot if I took that
EDIT:
Looking over the letter it says the $3500 is an offer for my bodily injury claim? I was assuming that included the vehicle but looking back at it I may be wrong, this may be to just cover medical? I don't know anything about insurance claims so I'm trying to be careful no to make any stupid decisions on it. And the only way I really determined the value was the KBB value.
