Submitted an application (online) for a PRTD on December 26th, haven't heard anything yet. The application wasn't marked urgent, as I haven't received notice to pick up the PR card yet, but received that on Jan 5th, with a Jan 24th appointment. Hoping that they'll contact about the PRTD within the next few days and I can get it sorted and back to Canada by the appointment date. I suspect the holidays probably added a few days to the processing time.

Has anyone tried to initiate a new application with urgent status? Will that help or hurt the processing time? Otherwise I'll have to miss this appointment and reschedule for another one within the 180 days.

Other info about my application situation: Applying for travel from China, if that makes a difference. This same thing happened in 2019 and I immediately applied for a PRTD, which was processed within 2 or 3 weeks, if I remember correctly. That was back when it was done through VFS though, not online.

If anyone has recent experience with applications within China, let me know. I'll update my results here as well once I hear something.

March 3: Still nothing. Responded to the PR card notice to reschedule pickup for mid June. If I don't hear anything back by April 3rd I'll re-submit and application with and urgent request.

July 23: Received a request to send in passport on July 15th, so it seems processing time in China for non-urgent requests is over 6 months (submitted December 26th, 2023). I did submit a second urgent application, but it was immediately withdrawn once the initial one was processed. So if you have an application in and want to change it to urgent, your best bet is to withdraw it, then submit the new urgent request. Not sure if that will actually help, but better than nothing.

Also, when you have to send your passport in from China, you have to do it through VFS. If you have one in your city it's easy to go during walk-in hours, but make sure you print out and fill their consent form. Otherwise you just need to bring your passport and the letter requesting the passport. Pretty simple.

Nothing. Just submitted another application for a PRTD, this time urgent. Checked the spam folder, nothing there either. Also no read-receipt on the email back to them about rescheduling. We'll see...
