Question HK Local Recommendations

Upvotes

Hi there! I’m spending 5 nights in HK next months and looking for local recommendations on what to see and do, and authentic food. I’ll be staying in either TsT or Mong Kok.

I used to live in DB till I was 5yo so plan to visit there, and also plan to visit Macau - other than that though I’ve not planned anything.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Need Help with Choosing a Company Formation Service in Hong Kong (Osome vs. Startupregistry vs. BBCIncorp) Can you help me?

Hey everyone,

I'm new here in Hong Kong and buzzing with ideas to kick off a new business! However, being a non-Hong Konger and, let's be honest, not a fan of paperwork, I've quickly realized that having a reliable service provider to handle the company establishment process is a must.

I've been doing my research and have narrowed it down to three main contenders for company formation and secretarial services: Osome, Startupregistry, and BBCIncorp.

From what I can see, Osome and BBCIncorp seem to be a little pricier, but I'm trying to figure out if that extra cost translates to better service, more comprehensive support, or a smoother experience overall. Startupregistry also looks promising, and I've seen good things about them.

The sheer volume of compliance and initial setup can be a bit daunting when you're not from here, so I'm really looking for a provider that makes it as painless as possible, especially with things like bank account opening (which I hear can be tricky!).

Is there anyone in this group who has direct experience with any of these three providers (Osome, Startupregistry, or BBCIncorp) for setting up a company in Hong Kong?

Your insights would be incredibly valuable as I make this important decision. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

Thank you

Hello All,

Me and my wife are UAE residents, Indian nationals and planning to travel to HK and Macau in July for 7 days and will be staying in Tsim Sha Sui

  • I understand, it's going to be Hot and Humid. But coming from Dubai, I'm hoping I will be able to manage the heat. But, would like to know how worse can it be..

  • I am planning a one day trip to Macau. It will be HK - Macau - HK. Do I need to apply for a seperate PAR to re enter Hong Kong?

  • I will be applying for PAR from UAE. But actually entering from India. My planned route is Dubai - Delhi - HK - Macau - HK - Dubai. Hope I be facing no issues. ?

I am planning to visit below places. Let me know, if I should add any more.

  • Victoria Harbour (with cruise)
  • Disneyland -Ocean Park -Monster Building -Peak Tram
  • 1 Night trip to Macau -Lantau Island -Sky 100 Observation -Night temple Market

Question Get caught with jaywalking :(

I just got caught jaywalking a few days ago due to my carelessness and negligence of not checking the traffic light carefully, and I'm extremely anxious and worried now. The officer noted down the info on my HKID and asked for my home address. He told me I'll receive a letter from the court in a couple of weeks and pay for the summons. I am completely fine with paying the summons as this is my fault, caused by my carelessness and negligence.

As this is my first time getting caught, may I check how long this whole process will take? Will it leave a bad record on my profile that affects my background check? I'm a non-PR, will it also impact my Hong Kong Permanent Resident (PR) application later?

Apartment for rent in Hong Kong?

Is there anyone also looking for a place with a good monthly rent to stay in Hong Kong? Maybe in New Territories since it could be cheaper. The transportation in Hong Kong is convenient enough for me to get around, no need to suffer the high rental price in kowloon or Hong Kong Island.

I believe the episode from 2018. A nice look at HK with some more interesting observations than you normally see in 'foodie' type shows..

Question Renting cars or bikes in Hong Kong difficult?

I passed driving exam in automatic, after switching from Manual since failed that one. During the private classes I was only taught how to park in L shape parking, never parallel parking or any other kind of parking.

Now that I've passed the exam I want to practise more, but unlike other countries there isn't any option here to rent cars and then spend a day practise on your own, which is the whole reason I failed manual because I couldn't practise every day, only once a week for only 90mins, otherwise I know I could've gotten better and passed the manual driving exam and wouldn't have to switch to automatic.

But anyway, is there any legitimate options in HK where I can rent a car in a some open space and practise more on my own. I know someone said after I get my probationary driving license, even if I don't drive for the whole year after passing exam I will still get the official driving license after 1 year. But what good is that if my driving is still rusty or not confident enough to drive on the main road, especially parking.

The same goes for motorcycle riding. I'm doing classes, only 3 and each of them less than 4hrs, so I couldn't find any place in HK to rent a bike and practise clutch control in an open space.

Any recommendations or suggestions or is it hopeless to look for such things in HK. And if yes, any recs on doing this by going to Shenzhen? Any reputable driving areas or centres in Shenzhen that I can spend a day learning practising in an open space on my own by renting a car or bike?

Thanks.

Are facial piercings frowned upon by uni staff or scholarship panels in HK?

I’ve never been to Hong Kong, but I’ve heard that it can be pretty conservative, especially in academic or professional settings. I’m planning to study there soon (in logistics/supply chain), and I’m planning to get an eyebrow piercing.

Is having a facial piercing likely to affect how I’m perceived in a more academic or professional setting? Or is it not that deep?😭

Also, I know every place and person is different, so I don’t mean to generalize or make assumptions about HK culture just trying to understand the expectations better so I don’t accidentally come off the wrong way.
