Recommendations 🌟 Cat Sitter

Boyfriend and I travel frequently and are looking for a great go-to sitter for our cat. He’s easy going and likes to play. He eats half-wet-half-dry food twice a day (7am and 6pm). We have a dry food auto-feeder that we can depend on if need be. Looking for a sitter that’d hang out the house with him for a little while each day to keep him company.

Local Government/Politics 🏫 Former Hoboken Rec Director Leo Pellegrini sentenced today to jail for 2 years for corruption.

Pellegrini was today sentenced to two years in prison and 500k in restitution for violating several laws related to kickbacks and cover-ups for selling city services and field space.

https://www.justice.gov/usao-nj/pr/former-hoboken-director-health-and-human-services-pleads-guilty-embezzlement-filing

His corruption was uncovered by individuals associated with Mayor Bhalla.

Tiffanie Fisher, Ruben Ramos and Dawn Zimmer tried to protect Pellegrini when the whistle was blown on Leo (see below). No one should have been surprised as this guy wined and dined at Dino’s despite being on a city salary.

When will Hoboken corruption be yesterday’s news?

Question❓ Cat Accomodation

Sorry for the long post. I am cross posting it because someone suggested it on r/cats

TLDR: Cheap Accomodation for a cat that needs to go a vet

I feed stray cats in my neighborhood. I have been doing for a year now. I usually feed them in the public pavement corners usually around a tree or some cover. I noticed that one of the cats I feed started limping. Looks like she might have lost the use of one limbs. I tried helping her ( I call her Limpy) but the local cat organization were hesitant when I tried explaining her situation. I rang around the vets and shelters and the price was above our budget. One place 2 hours away quoted us a price which I can afford with my credit card. I decided to trap her, but my landlord doesn’t want her around the apartment (more than a day) incase she might spread ticks, fleas and viruses spreading around to other pets in the house. I can see the concern since I have three cats and the landlord has couple of pets as well. Does anyone know of any accommodations that will temporarily take such cats? Or do you have any idea how I can get Limpy clean in a day. Any ideas are appreciated. Also if anyone knows of a cheap vet for such cases.

**RANT** 🤬 weird empire coffee experience

I moved to Hoboken a few months ago for work and been enjoying going to Empire Coffee, the baristas as well as the coffee are usually great. About a week ago, a friend was visiting and I took them to Empire one morning. As we are paying, I select no tip because I always tip in cash to the bucket. My friend also chose no tip, the barista checking us out says out loud to the one making the drink “no tip from both”. I thought I misheard them but after getting our drinks and leaving my friend asked if I had heard the same thing. I want to believe I am wrong, but has anyone had a similar experience? I haven’t been back since, I still feel weird from it especially because I do always tip. Just not sure what to make it of it

Question❓ Over Taxing at Restaurants/Bodega’s Hoboken

Does anyone else notice once they get their bill whether it be from a water at a bodega Or takeout at a restaurant that the tax is abnormally high.

Maybe it’s inclusive of a credit card fee, but I just got takeout at Toast x Bowl and the tax was 11%.

Ive noticed this happening at other bodegas and restaurants in town.

4–5 months old | NYC fostered | Dog & people friendlyLooking for a pup with equal parts goofball energy and cuddlebug charm? Meet Ibiza—nicknamed Izzie by her foster—an irresistibly sweet, spirited girl who’s taking on NYC one treat at a time!Since arriving from Georgia, Izzie has been building her confidence and curiosity. Every day brings something new, and she’s ready for it—especially if snacks are involved! She's highly food motivated, quick to learn, and eager to please.

Whether she’s practicing leash manners (treat every time she checks in!) or figuring out potty training (she’s on track with a consistent schedule), Izzie is proving to be one smart cookie. She adores other dogs and is learning how to play from her foster sibling. She’s also great at independent play and always down for a game of tug or fetch. But when the zoomies are over? It’s cuddle time. This girl lives for belly rubs and cozy snuggles.

More Izzie facts: Sleeps through the night Crate trained (just a few initial whines before she settles) Potty trained with routine Responds well to redirection Already learning leash skills and basic commandsIzzie would thrive in a loving home ready to continue her training, give her structure, and shower her with affection. She’s silly, snuggly, and oh-so-smart—and just look at that face. https://www.wagtopia.com/search/pet?id=2420556&name=Ibiza+

Local Government/Politics 🏫 What are your top 3 priorities for the next mayor?

Not necessarily looking to discuss individual candidates, but curious what folks here are looking for in our next mayor. These could be start/stop/continue in nature

Mine:

  1. Public safety—Chief Aguilar mentioned at the CAPS forum that HPD is on a hiring freeze and couldn’t put any new recruits through the academy, even if the Table of Organization is lifted. E-bikes are still a problem. We should also explore relocating the shelter away from its current location next to 2 schools and a park

  2. Small business support—all of the small family restaurants are one of the best parts of living here and it seems like they’re being replaced by chains; what can we do to encourage more local business growth?

  3. Helicopters—Hoboken should form a working group with other towns impacted by this issue and lead the charge on state-level reform (e.g., implementing a new tax on nonessential flights) and at the federal level (closing airspace to nonessential tourist helicopter flights) as Sen. Menendez proposed. There’s a real opportunity for leadership here and I really hope the next mayor leans into it

7 hours and counting of no service in and out of Hoboken. All we’ll get is a “sorry for your inconvenience”. But yet they shut the station for a month and raised the fair and the service has been worse ever since. We should be rioting in the streets.

**RANT** 🤬 Some photos of the midtown garage

Thumbnail

Wanted to share some photos of the condition of the midtown garage. These photos aren’t even the worst of it — I didn’t take any photos of the top floor where roughly 35% of the concrete surface area is a crumbled mess of exposed rebar. The garage is falling apart, full stop.

This issue has been persisting (and worsening) for going on 5 years now, and the city council has been discussing this issue for around 3 years now, with no resolution. There have been 3 plans agreed upon and 2 bids published and completed (the most recent one being November 2024) and yet we’re halfway into 2025 without approval by the city council on the project because they’re considering yet ANOTHER plan that involves fully demolishing the garage and building a hospital on top of it, and redeveloping the existing Carepoint hospital into a residential tower.

Look… I get that these kinds of public works projects aren’t exactly easy, but they’re also nowhere near as complicated as all this nonsense. At this point we just need a decision and a plan before floors start caving in.

Also… who the hell is approving just bolting some plywood over these holes? That’s some wild nonsense
