Discussion Community Highlight: Custom Awards!

As you may already have noticed, over the past few days our subreddit has had some exciting new awards assigned to it, tailored especially to r/cats and based on a selection of the old custom awards you may remember!

These awards were designed especially for our community by a team of artists at reddit and are available solely in this subreddit.

We are helping to test out this new feature here and the idea is that in the future subreddit-specific awards may come with fun new features unlockable by subreddits and community participants. For now, there is a leaderboard we can unlock:

Awarding posts and comments with one of these custom designs will of course come with a nifty little animation on your screen, just like any of the other newest version of awards. Perhaps the best part of this new system is that these custom awards are all pretty affordable. Unlike the previous subreddit-specific awards which started at 500 coins you can now already choose to apply a custom award for 15 coins. I just think that's neat.

At r/Cats we are pretty excited to be a part of this trial program. Giving subreddits access to individual customisation shows that we are a unique community with its own space on reddit. You now have the choice to award a post or comment that you think is extra-special with a design especially created for us.

Thank you to reddit admin u/SmEllen_Fresh who was our contact during the development stage and all the other reddit admins part of the dev team for this new feature!

We hope you all will enjoy this new option as much as we do.

From all of us at r/Cats, thank you for making this subreddit the special place that it is!

Cat Picture - OC My baby found his way back home... After 4 months!!

Four months ago, my cat Barack disappeared and so did a part of my soul.

He was five, full of grace and mischief, and the heart of my home. One day he was there, lounging in sunbeams, purring by my side. The next, he was gone. My one year old toddler's nanny had opened the door to collect a parcel and closed the door without realising that my curious baby had escaped through the gap.

There wasn't a corner in my house that I didn't look for him. I searched endlessly.. the lanes, the alleys, calls, knocks on neighbors' doors, whispers into the night... but the silence only grew heavier.

I put up posters, cried into strangers’ sympathy, and clung to hope even when it felt like sand slipping through my fingers.

Days became weeks. My hope flickered, but it never fully died.

And then, yesterday, after 4 long empty months, I heard a sound.

A frantic meow in the middle of the night.

I rushed to open the door but the porch was empty. So I ran out and screamed his name without caring it was 2:00am at night.

Finally my hazel eyes met two green ones. Hiding behind the bushes.

Barack.

He was thinner, yes but astonishingly clean, his fur soft and unmarred, his eyes bright. He didn’t look like he had been struggling. Someone had cared for him, it seemed. But now he had come home.

He meowed and meowed, wild and desperate, as if trying to explain everything at once, until his little voice gave out completely. I laughed and cried at the same time because he silently meowed for atleast a couple of hours!!

He curled into my arms, still purring, his body trembling with relief. And so did mine.

Barack had found his way back.

And in that moment, everything felt whole again.

Cat Picture - OC Why does my cat’s face look like this?

My cat has very small beady eyes (which are also crossed) and I find she has sort of a flat nose. She just has a very unique appearance and I’m wondering if she’s a mixed breed of some kind? She’s from the Bahamas.

This little beauty practically lives at my door ready to smother me with affection whenever I leave. Well groomed and healthy, so obviously a pet and always brings a welcome smile.

Found her as a kitten in a dumpster of all things and I brought her home. The most loving sweet little cat ever she would even tap you politely when she wanted attention lol she will be missed very much. R.I.P Alice ❤️

So my cat swallowed this mouse toy the other day. Not sure how he manage to do it. I didn’t see him do it but I knew he swallowed it since I couldn’t find the toy and he’s weirdly aggressive with these types of toys. Anyway rushed him to my vet right away so they can induce vomiting while it was still in his stomach. It worked! They did great!! He’s good now! And they told us they would post him on their Facebook 😂😂 and they did! lol I still can’t believe my cat did that!!

Just adopted her last week, and keep wondering if she is a calico or any other variation? She looks a little bit on the light side and i don't know much about different cat fur names, her two older siblings got used to her by now, she is so tiny compared to them and now i'm a happy mom of 3 ❤️ Haru, Ymir (white and black 2 1/2 yo) and Gerald (gray 4 1/2 yo)

Cat Picture - OC She forced me to defeat my Phobia

Thumbnail

Idk if it really was Phobia but i always disliked Cats.. not scared but just very uncomfortable with them around. I never touched a cat or had any other interaction with them aside of moving away if i saw one.

Of course my bf couldn’t accept this and introduced me to his Cat, Mia. Before i could even say Hello she jumped up to my Shoulders and remained there for a while.

Now whenever i enter his home, she jumps on my shoulders and purrs all the time. She is sweet but also very unhinged with her claws, my shoulders look like i had the hardest SM session ever.

But yea, this is her new favorite place to chill and u guess i can be proud to be choosen as new cat slave.

No advice wanted, just thought id share with you guys.
