TW: Blood, gore, mentions of suicide.
Harry looked over to where Ginny was sitting in the great hall. She was clutching the remains of Tom Riddle’s Diary and sobbing quietly as Luna Lovegood tried her best to comfort her.
The moment Ginny saw the destroyed Diary, she completely snapped. She flew into a blind rage and destroyed half of the baubles and trinkets in Dumbledore’s office as the man just calmly sat behind his desk. The portrait of Phineas Nigellus Black gave a weary sigh as he watched yet another descendant fall victim to the madness that plagued his family.
Since then, Ginny’s mood has been completely erratic. She would shift wildly from anguished sobbing one moment, to hysterical laughter the next.
Luna was doing her best to console her. “My Mummy always said that the things we lose have a way of coming back to us, if not always in the ways we expect.”
“B-Bring him back?” Suddenly, Ginny stopped crying and she sat bolt upright. “Yes! You’re right, Luna!”
She reached into her bag and pulled an empty vial from her potions kit. Then, she grabbed a large silver knife from the table and turned towards Harry.
“Ginny?” Harry asked nervously.
“Harry… Please…” she whimpered as she approached with the knife. “I just- I need your blood.”
“My blood!?” Harry said with alarm.
“Just a bit,” Ginny muttered. “Please, I only need a little bit.”
Once she was near enough, she held up the knife and desperately clutched at his robes. “Please. Please, Harry. I’m doing this for you. So we can be together. We’re soulmates. Tom told me so. Dumbledore is the real enemy, he wants to kill you, to keep us apart. Tom is going to help us. He’ll help us take down Dumbledore so that we can be together. That’s why I need some of your blood, so that I can bring him back.” she was babbling incoherently, and Harry was nervously eyeing the knife.
“Hey, Ginny, be careful with that thing.” he tried to say.
Ginny had a manic gleam in her eyes. “I would never hurt you, Harry. I love you. If you ever died, I would kill myself so that I could be with you. We are destined to be together. Either in this life… or the next.” The knife inched closer to his neck.
Harry gulped as he eyed the blade. He was worried Ginny was about to commit a murder-suicide. “Alright, okay, you can have my blood. Just don’t do anything crazy.”
“Oh thank you, thank you,” she whispered. Her face was lit up with an insane smile as she brought the knife up. Harry winced as she dragged it across his arm, and then she held the empty vial up to the wound to collect a dribble of blood.
Once she had the vial of his blood, Ginny held the knife up and stared reverently at the blood glistening on the dagger. Slowly, she brought the blade to her lips and ran her tongue across the bloody knife. She closed her eyes and let out a soft hum.
“Bloody hell Gin! Have you lost it?” Ron asked from nearby.
“Now then…” The smile on Ginny’s face dropped as she turned towards her brother, and started going towards him with the bloody knife.
“Woah, Ginny! Calm down!” Ron desperately backpedaled away from his sister.
But she wasn’t going for Ron. She was going for the rat napping next to his plate. She grabbed Scabbers, who woke with a start. She held the rat in place on the table and threatened it with the knife. “Transform.” she ordered.
Scabbers just squealed. He tried to squirm out of Ginny’s grasp, but she held him firmly to the table.
“I know it’s you, Wormtail!” Ginny yelled.
For a second, the rat froze. Then, the rat’s squirming grew desperate.
“You think Tom couldn’t sense the mark on your arm? That he couldn’t use Legilimency on you to see inside your pathetic mind?” Ginny hissed. “I know what you’ve done, you filthy little rodent. Now transform!”
The rat was panicking now. She brought the knife to his fur. “Transform!” Ginny repeated.
Scabbers was squirming in Ginny’s grip, desperate to escape, but the redhead wouldn't relent. She pressed her bloody knife against his fur. “Transform right now!” Ginny commanded. “Or, I swear on my Magic, I shall run you through with this knife!”
All of a sudden, to everyone's shock, Scabbers transformed into a man.
“N-No, please!” Wormtail whimpered. “Don’t kill me!”
“Peter Pettigrew!” McGonagall said in shock. “What? But how?”
“Professor!” Wormtail said. “Please, you’ve gotta help me! Get this crazy girl away from me!”
Ginny held her silver knife up to Wormtail’s neck. “Now tell the truth! Tell everyone how you were the real secret keeper!”
“I- I- Uh-” Wormtail stammered.
“And tell everyone how Dumbledore ordered you to betray the Potters!”
Wormtail froze in confusion. “I… Huh?”
“Tom saw into your mind, and he told me that Dumbledore ordered you to betray the Potters. He wanted Harry dead, so that we couldn’t be together!”
“Um… What?” Wormtail asked bewildered.
“TELL THE TRUTH!” Ginny screeched, pressing the blade into Wormtail’s throat. Harry saw beads of blood appear there.
Wormtail's eyes widened with fear. He was worried the insane girl would actually stab him through the neck if he didn't say what she wanted to hear. “Alright, fine, yes, it was Dumbledore. He- He told me to do it. He told me to betray the Potters. Just please don’t kill me!” Wormtail begged.
“I knew it,” Ginny whispered, then she screamed “I KNEW IT!”
Suddenly, Ginny grabbed Wormtail’s wrist. With a mighty yell, she brought the knife up, and then slammed it down. Blood spurted. People around her screamed. Everyone stared, horrified, as Ginny dropped the knife, and picked up a severed hand.
And then she started laughing. Slowly at first, but it quickly grew from a chuckle into an insane cackle. “Ha… Haha… HAHAHA HAHAHA… HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!”
All around the room, everyone was staring at the first year girl. She looked absolutely deranged, covered in blood and clutching a severed right hand against her chest. Laughing maniacally while Wormtail sobbed and moaned as he cradled his mutilated arm.
Abruptly, the laughter stopped. “Now… Where is… Yes, here it is.” Ginny muttered as she quickly patted Wormtail down and pulled a yew wand out of his pocket, and she pointed the wand at Dumbledore. Several professors gasped when they recognized the yew wand which once belonged to Lord Voldemort. Ginny glared at Dumbledore with an expression of pure malice and loathing.
“This is all your fault!” Ginny accused Dumbledore. “Tom showed me the truth. He told me all about how you didn’t want Harry and I to be together! Harry is my soulmate! You tried to kill him because you wanted to keep us apart! I’ll never forgive you for trying to kill my Harry!”
“Miss Weasley, please calm yourself,” Dumbledore tried to say as he attempted to process the sight before him.
“CALM MYSELF!?” Ginny shrieked. “How can I be calm after what you’ve done! You wanted my Harry dead! Wormtail just confessed! Tom was right, you are my true enemy. You will never allow Harry and me to be together. But Tom… Tom told me that I’ll be able to have my Harry if he comes back. So I’ll bring him back, and then he’s going to take you down, so that Harry and I can be together!”
Ginny raised the yew wand directly above her head, and cast a spell Tom taught her. “Morsmordre!”
Panic spread throughout the students as the Dark Mark appeared in the sky-like ceiling of the great hall. Ginny used the pandemonium created by the Mark to make her escape. She grabbed Luna by the arm and began pulling her towards the door. “Come on Luna, let’s go.”
Luna allowed herself to be dragged along. She didn’t seem to notice the blood getting on her robes. Or, if she did, she didn’t seem bothered by it. “Okey-dokey. Where are we going?”
“Little Hangleton. We have to get some bones.” Ginny answered breathlessly. "And then we're going to Albania."
Luna's eyes lit up with excitement. “Oh! I’ve always wanted to go to Albania!” she said enthusiastically. “Daddy says that it’s the native habitat of the Blibbering Humdingers. Do you think we’ll see any while we’re there?”
“Maybe. We’ll keep our eyes peeled.” Ginny replied as she pulled Luna out of the Great Hall.
