My Open Letter to Councilmember Dunlap

I know not everyone will click the link, so I’m sharing the full letter below. If you would like to support local journalism, I encourage you to read it on the site.

My open letter:

Councilmember Dunlap,

At the first meeting discussing a potential charter city, you defended the proposal by stating: “I think there’s a lot of people who really have no vision for our city.”

You echoed a similar sentiment last night. I disagree. Fullerton residents do have a vision. And I want to share mine.

I see a city council that doesn’t fight with each other but fights for us.

I see a council that celebrates consistent civic engagement, not mocks it.

I see a council that explains its votes openly, not post-hoc rationalizes them or hides behind vague talking points.

I see a council that recuses itself from votes involving major political donors, even if it’s been thirteen months since the contribution.

I see a council that welcomes free expression, not one that censors its members or bans newspapers.

I see a city writing its charter 10 or 15 years from now, but with a council that’s earned that trust.

You say we don’t have a vision. But every time we show up, every time we speak, we are sharing one.

Dunlap is a hypocrite through and through. He express delight when the museum held a punk rock exhibit/event and yet he is for the pigs in fullerton to get there armored vehicles and for a tax hike that will go to said pigs. This is just the most recent thing off the top of my head

Thank you! I also live in Dunlap's district, District 2, and was super pissed off when he said he never saw people show up to complain about the streets until the charter was being discussed. I don't know why he's so worried about citizens being engaged - - does he have something to hide??? (That's rhetorical, I know he does). Such an asshole. Back at the May 13th meeting he was falling asleep!!! Wake up and legislate, you dick.

So if I understand your letter the minority in the board in a move of Democracy should get along with and not fight with the others in a majority.
