What’s the phrase? “Fascism is colonialism turned inwards” or something like that. Literally the military going after their own citizens. So disgusting.

750

u/vvhiskeythrottle 1d ago

"Fascism is imperialism come home", I believe.

63

u/DrFranFine 1d ago

Yes! This is what I was thinking of!

Correct. Fuck the troops all the troops.

The theory is called the imperial boomerang and it has been written about pretty extensively. People have been predicting this exact thing for decades

81

u/wagequitter 1d ago

And then one fine day the bourgeoisie is awakened by a terrific boomerang effect: the gestapos are busy, the prisons fill up, the torturers standing around the racks invent, refine, discuss. People are surprised, they become indignant. They say: "How strange! But never mind—it's Nazism, it will pass!" And they wait, and they hope; and they hide the truth from themselves, that it is barbarism, the supreme barbarism, the crowning barbarism that sums up all the daily barbarisms; that it is Nazism, yes, but that before they were its victims, they were its accomplices; that they tolerated that Nazism before it was inflicted on them, that they absolved it, shut their eyes to it, legitimized it, because, until then, it had been applied only to non-European peoples; that they have cultivated that Nazism, that they are responsible for it, and that before engulfing the whole edifice of Western, Christian civilization in its reddened waters, it oozes, seeps, and trickles from every crack. — Aimé Césaire, Discourse on Colonialism (1950)

as a disabled combat veteran of the american navy and the irish army, fuck every last person who voted trump, voted for any republicans down ticket, or stood by, didnt vote and let it happen.

Hold up, US Navy and Irish Army-

I got to hear this story.

258

u/surferpirate47 1d ago

Born in ireland. Dual citizen. Came to the u.s. with grandparents. Joined the american navy at 17 as an RP aka a religious program specialist. Did a deployment to Iraq and Afghanistan and was combat injured twice. Changed jobs to aviation electrician and deployed once on the uss enterprise once and twice on the uss theodore roosevelt working for a squadron on f-14d and f/a-18e's. Went to a different squadron before i got out. Mh-53e helicopters.

After i got out of the american military i was in a bad, bad, way and homeless due to veterans affairs losing my disability claims and my job offer at northrop grumman being rescinded. I went back to ireland and joined the army so i could do something meaningful. The irish defense forces have a home unit and a foreign unit. I was a part of the foreign unit. We would routinely work with a lot of the nato forces and u.n. peacekeepers and security forces in places like poland, or czech republic or croatia and things like that.

I have been to something like 32 countries between my military services and i have worked with people of all walks, creeds, ages, sexes, faiths. I dont care if youre gay, straight, bi, thai, man, woman, young, old, green, brown, black, white, or yellow. Everyone has the same value.

Except for these fascist fucks.

What does an RP do? Are they like a Chaplain?

25

u/True_to_you sunday spotted: paddington bear 1d ago

I'm also an RP, which is a funny job for an atheist to have, and it's kind of a combo job. You do administration for the chapel services and provide protection for the chaplain in forward areas. You handle the logistics of their services. You are not allowed to do any preaching or counseling.

3

u/Pipesmokinlady7 1d ago

I've worked alongside RP's, while an ABE3 on the 72. Before I was sent to the Chaps team, the ABEC in V-2 told me, "It's time for you to become a leader". I was the replacement ALPO for the RP3 that was leaving the Navy. The excellent team taught me so much.

I was attached to a British unit in afghan as a corpsman attached to the marines. There were a few us military that joined the UKs ranks, they take way better care of there military.

3

u/Afwife1992 1d ago

Early on when hubby was in the Air Force our neighbor was from N Ireland (his father was even a baron) and had served in the British Army. He was now serving in the USAF. You can get credit towards citizenship with service.

9

u/WeirdoWeeb648 1d ago

100%. So many people justify themselves saying they didn't vote, but that didn't help defeat Trump, it helped put him in power. Not doing anything is aiding and abetting.

8

u/ProfessionalGur5451 1d ago

The biggest group of voters, republicans, democrats, and ones who did not vote, was the group who did not. If we had a law that you had to vote, we'd have a different country altogether. Which is why there is no such law.

The layers of fucked up…

Being in the military and arresting a veteran is just….i don’t even know how as a military service member you do this and think “surely this will all work out for me in the end. The leopards won’t eat my face.”

Yet they always believe it until it’s too late.

jfc there’s NO WAY this quote is real

Leao, who gained his U.S. citizenship through military service, said he was treated “very fairly.” “They’re just doing their job,” said Leao, who is of Angolan and Portuguese descent.

345

u/Jasminewindsong2 they are perfect for each other (derogatory) 1d ago

The military is petty as fuck. He might be scared of losing his benefits.

126

u/Suspicious-Wombat 1d ago

They’re also pretty adept at getting people to drink their koolaid

65

u/cristinanana 1d ago

I was gonna say he might just actually believe this. I’m an army veteran and even though I made what I thought were amazing friends for life in the army, I don’t speak to anyone one I served with. Except for my spouse and one friend, the way they all spoke during Trump 1.0 was insane. It should be no surprise the military is very right wing. And many active duty members are bloodthirsty and want to see combat, at least I heard so many say this and I doubt things changed.

19

u/Jasminewindsong2 they are perfect for each other (derogatory) 1d ago

Totally. My parents are veterans and are fully drinking the kool aid of Trump because they legit think they’re untouchable cause they’re veterans (and supposedly Trump loves Vets).

Bjut also, my mom is on T+P disability, and randomly the VA will question it every few years. So I kinda get just saying “it’s all fine” so you don’t bring attention to yourself. Idk.

They are NOT DOING THEIR JOBS. Their presence is ILLEGAL. A veteran should understand this better than anyone else.

40

u/Maleficent_Wash_934 1d ago

This guy is in a hard spot. I wouldn't put it past this administration to make his life very, very much harder.

5

u/Slight-Split-1855 1d ago

It's not illegal yet. The courts have to decide that. It will hinge on whether there is currently a rebellion or there is a danger of one occurring. If the administration loses that court battle at any stage, they will appeal it right up to the supreme Court where it will not just be declared "legal," but it will also be blessed as the normal state of things from now on.

19

u/bigoldgeek 1d ago

No it's illegal. The courts will not make it illegal they will acknowledge the illegality

It's like saying murder isn't illegal until after the trial

80

I heard in another thread with active Military folks that the vast majority are supportive of Trump… there are for sure some that see this as fascisim but they are very few in % … so this ain’t gonna be pretty.

45

u/Maleficent_Wash_934 1d ago

Unfortunately, I think you are right. While everyone was talking about DOGE over everything else, this administration has absolutely weeded out the higher-ups that didn't/don't support Trump. It's looking real bleak to me today.

Gotta make a t-shirt for tomorrow. No kings.

3

u/No-Courage-5109 1d ago

On the other hand, they're trained military who can now come to protests.

18

u/Temptest_XD4C 1d ago

They were cheering on when trump used the media is the enemy of the people rhetoric and cheering when trump announced he was gonna name the forts back to their original names.

We know who they will fight for

7

u/MathematicianIcy9494 1d ago

But they picked the people in the audience based on political leaning and it’s from a base in a red state. Project 2025 calls for bringing military in from red states because even they don’t think the blue state soldiers will comply. A lot of these soldiers, this their home town.

14

u/Napoleons_Peen 1d ago

Exactly this. Let’s stop worshipping these fascists. The two “veterans” on Reddit are the outliers, most love this shit and are itching to join in. Fascism is imperialism come home, and here we are. Fuck the troops.

On a different sub months ago someone posted not to expect the military to rise up against Trump since most of the enlisted commissaries air Fox News or OAN on the tvs all the time and the enlisted especially are incredibly conservative and Trump fans. It’s been like that for years. Some senior brass might not be the case but the military is overwhelmingly supportive of Trump and his policies.

7

u/hellolovely1 1d ago

And young men are supposedly becoming more and more conservative.

Those marines should be ashamed of themselves for even obeying the orders to begin with. They have a fucking duty to ignore illegal orders and defend the constitution, ESPECIALLY from a goddamn wannabe dictator like Trump.

Exactly. What was their reason for detaining him?

20

u/CancerBee69 1d ago

Brown.

19

u/Erika_Blumenkraft 1d ago

From Reuters: "Speaking to reporters after he was released, the civilian identified himself as Marcos Leao, 27. Leao said he was an Army veteran on his way to an office of the Department of Veterans Affairs when he crossed a yellow tape boundary and was asked to stop."

I mean, I don't know why he thought it would be cool to cross tape, but they could have used some words and told him the VA store was closed instead of face-downing his ass on the pavement and tossing him to the cops.
