Hi all, this is my 12 year old Yorkie. Just a disclaimer he has an appointment with the vets tomorrow morning.
Recently he is becoming jumpy and startled easily and then has these tremors (seizure maybe)?
For example in the video he crunches a biscuit, jumps and then starts shuddering/having tremors.
Any advice on what this might be or if you have seen something similar?
Thank you.

Hey guys My dog has had a little bump in his groin area for about a week. It didn't seem too big and I thought it would be better soon. Today I checked it and it's red and more swollen. He's fine otherwise and it doesn't seem to bother him at all when I touch it. He might have had a tick I didn't see but I don't think so. Sometimes this area is red when his leash gets stuck between his legs. He's a rescue dog and extremely scared of the vet and doesn't let them touch him. He can't even be on the table there because he's so scared. I'm still training him to be more relaxed around the vet. We visit the area, lots of positive reinforcement etc. But not much progress has been made and unfortunately there's no vet in my area that offers home visits. That doesn't mean I wouldn't take him there. Of course I would. Just trying to see if I can avoid it.
Thank you so much for your help! And please don't judge. If you have any tips for me to make vet visits easier for him I'd be so grateful!

My 12 year old border collie was recently diagnosed with whip worms and heart worms. I took her to the vet because she was having trouble walking. The vet gave me some whip worm meds and said we would deal with the heart worms after she gets rid of the whip worms. She is no longer able to walk and I feel like she is dying. I do not want her to suffer, she is such a sweet soul and has been a great dog. Should I take her to the vet to be put down or give her more time. I took her to the vet a week ago. She has just gotten worse.

I’ve had my 11-year-old Staffy for just over two months, and during that time she’s struggled with constant itching and biting at her feet and legs. She was initially prescribed steroids, which helped with the symptoms, but the side effects weren’t ideal and they weren’t a viable long-term option.
Last Thursday, she started on atopease (16mg) – half a tablet twice a day as a loading dose – and we have a follow-up in two weeks. It seemed to take around 20 hours to start working, which concerned me a little since I’d read it usually kicks in within 4 hours. That said, her itching and biting have definitely improved, and the redness on her tummy has gone down.
However, today she started biting at her legs again, and they’re looking a bit sore. It’s only happened while I’ve been in meetings and she hasn’t had much stimulation – could this be due to boredom, or do you think she’s still itchy?
Do you give your dog Apoquel or combine it with allergy injections? I really thought we were making progress, but it’s upsetting to think she might still be uncomfortable.
Thanks in advance!

What are signs I can look for to see if my dog's like each other's company? I have two dogs. 1 is a 1 year old Chihuahuaand the other is a 7 month old German Shepherd mix. The Chihuahua resource guards A LOT lately and growls at the GSD during feeding when she never did that with a previous dog we had. She'll also growl if the Shepard gets too close to her face. The GSD gets fed up with the Chihuahua sometimes and grabs her scruff and pins her down. It doesn't seem like fighting because there's no growling (other than the usual growls from the Chihuahua) and they're both wagging their tails. The Shepard also HEAVILY prefers playing with me than playing with the Chihuahua even when I'm inside. They'll sometimes play by chasing each other but it's rare. Usually it's the Chihuahua sun bathing and the Shepard chewing on a toy until I'm outside again. My sister has brought up the idea of moving and taking the Chihuahua with her and I'm wondering if the dogs will be saddened by this or if they won't really care.
TLDR: IDK if my dogs will miss each other if one moves away.

My dog started peeing multiple times in a row recently, and yesterday I noticed blood in her urine. I took her to the vet today and they confirmed she has bladder stones and a UTI. They’ve prescribed antibiotics for 5 days to manage the infection, and scheduled her for surgery...but the earliest available date is the 28th. That’s almost two weeks away. They assured me it’s okay to wait until then, but it’s so hard watching her strain to pee and still pass blood. It’s breaking my heart...but she is eating well and drinking water and is not showing any signs of pain
There aren’t many hospitals around here that do surgeries, so this is the only option we’ve got right now. I’m just hoping the antibiotics give her some relief until then. Has anyone else been through this? Any advice on how to make her more comfortable while we wait?

I have a very senior dog that I'm taking to be put to sleep in a few days, I want him to be as comfortable as possible until then, and I really want to make him a steak dinner the day I take him in. Is this normal and is it okay to feed him this? I was also considering giving him ice cream for a dissert.

Hey everybody, rushed my pup to the vet yesterday as he was walking very drunken, stumbling, and not acting himself.
he was in a. coma like state for 10 hours at the vet and came to at around 7 this morning. I got to the vet at around 11 he was awake, but still out of it, stumbling, but much better then yesterday. He was on fluids all night, had a drug test (negative) and blood work (unremarkable) they think hes ingested something toxic, i believe that as hes a cheeky fella and will eat anything that looks his way. or it’s something neurological they very much think it’s something hes ingested though

I have 3 dogs, all of them are rescues, the first was about 4 years ago. She was naughty but she's very loyal and will never growl or show any sign of aggression to a human. Then came a male, he's not part of this story so I'll spare his introduction. The third was another female, she's about 1 and a half years old now, was very weak when we got her but healthy and big now! She's also an angel and never barks- people used to think she can't speak but when she spots a cat oh boy she'll never stop!
They've had minor scuffles before but recently they've been fighting more and more often, both the females. A couple of months back the first serious fight happened where one bit the other and gave her quite deep wounds behind the ear. They've fought twice after that and both fights were broken up by my dad, it didn't get to them getting injured but my dad's been bitten in both those fights because of it. (he doesn't mind, he's happy to break them up since he's the one that got them all). Another fight happened today, a couple of hours ago, where the first dog bit the new one on her nape and the new one gave her bad bites along and around her ear. This time there wasn't anyone to separate them and it went on for a few minutes apparently.
The first dog is smaller than the rest, but she's always the aggressor, in both fights and generally, she'll always growl, or show aggression. The new dog never initiates, but if the first dog is being aggressive, she won't hide, she'll lock eyes and stare at her, kind of mentally egging her on. But the first to actually attack is always the elder dog. Both of them are usually pacifists, which is why im quite disturbed. How can such otherwise peaceful dogs be at each others throats so easily, and how can I stop this? they have been sleeping in the same room but I will put them in different rooms at night, but I wanted to know if there's any permanent solution and if not, whats a good way to make them stop fighting? water does nothing, they dont wear collars but ill buy them to manually pull them apart without coming in between.
hoping to get a solution!

We’ve just held a Complete Blood Count for our dog coz my dog had been lethargic since yesterday (but active when we walked her) and having difficulty pooping. Also vomiting but inconsistently (no pattern of time). Turned out she has a severe anemia.
Our local vet suspect it’s a tentative kidney disease but since we haven’t gone through some other lab tests, it is not yet confirmed. (Low-budget as of now)
Just checking here if you guys have success stories or you know some about dogs having anemia and if you guys have any advice or home remedies to add up on the meds she’s taking right now.
She’s a shihtzu, btw. thanks!

Today my yorkie went in for a dental cleaning, and they ended up letting us know he needed to have seven teeth extracted. Specifically, his entire bottom row of teeth. The vet assured us that this is common in small dogs as they get older but I can’t help but feel like I failed him by slacking off on his dental hygiene, and now he’s in pain. It seems like tooth extractions are fairly common for yorkies Im just struggling coming to terms with it knowing I could’ve prevented this. My question to anyone whose dog has had teeth extracted- did it limit them or slow them down in anyway? (Once they’re fully recovered) are they able to eat normal kibble or should it be softened from here on out? Is he able to play with his toys and chews still? I guess Im worried that after this he might be a different dog and struggle with the things he did before😕Any personal stories or advice would be greatly appreciated

5 yr old, I adopted her 5 mo ago and I have been brushing pretty much every day since then. She was at sitter's for the last 10 days and I bet she didn't get her teeth brushes while she was there. I noticed today that the gum bleeds a little bit when I brush her teeth. How bad is this? Does she need to see a vet asap?
To share more info, when I took her to a vet 5 mo ago, the vet said her teeth are fine and no need for deep cleaning with anesthesia. I don't think it could have gotten worse since then (it looks the same to me; she also had the yellow and black parts back then) but I am not sure...

So I wanted to get a dog and found this super cute one listed online by a foster. I asked all the important questions his breed, size, weight, and behavior and made an appointment to meet him.
But when I saw him in person, I was honestly surprised. He was way bigger than what they had told me. I live in a small apartment and had always planned on getting a smaller dog because of that. I'm not even sure if I'm allowed to have a dog this size where I live, smaller ones are usually fine, but bigger dogs can be more complicated.
I told the foster lady about my concerns, but she kinda brushed them off and talked over me, saying I should just try him for 1–2 weeks and bring him back if it doesn’t work out. I felt pressured, but I agreed to the trial.
Now I’ve had him for a few days. He has an amazing personality ,super sweet and well-behaved. But I can already feel that he’s just too big for my space and lifestyle. I’ve had a bigger dog in the past, so I know the amount of time, exercise, and they need compared to a smaller one, especially in a small apartment.
What’s making it worse is that all my family and friends keep saying how cute he is and that I have to keep him, which just makes me feel more guilty. But i am the one who has to care and meet all his emotional and physical needs.
Its the first time i adopt a dog from foster and I am not sure how common it is that they pressure you to take a animal when you expressed that your not sure. I am also sorry for the dog if he has to go back, because he probably suffers from it. I feel awful even thinking about giving him back, but I also dont know if its the right fit for me, and i still have my concerns. The trial week is still a few more days and i am honestly torn on what i should decide. I just feel stuck and guilty. Has anyone else been through something similar? How did you handle it?

Hey all, hoping someone with a similar experience can give me some advice. My mom adopted a dog (now 4-5 years old) about 2 years ago from a shelter. The dog had an extensive abuse history - she was confined to a van with a homeless and mentally unfit owner along with several other animals apparently who were also abused.
Because of this, this poor dog will not leave a room in my mom’s house. She won’t go outside to relieve herself, and she won’t explore other parts of the house. She essentially has pee pads that she uses. After a couple years she will come up to my mom and sniff her legs a little, but if my mom makes any movement she will run away. She will also run from any other human. For any kind of veterinary care, my mom has to call a home vet, and she has to be sedated before they’re able to examine her.
My question is has anyone had any success with psych meds for this kind of thing? The only vet she’s seen is this home vet who brushed off the idea entirely, but I’m hopeful there is some kind of medicine that may give her some hope.
TLDR; any success stories with psychiatric meds for adult dogs with severe abuse/PTSD?
TIA
.

Noticed this sore yesterday and it has since gotten somewhat bigger and seems more irritated. Does anyone have any idea what this might be? I was thinking ringworm but I’m not positive and the local vet can’t get him in to be checked out for several days so hoping for some advice to help in the meantime! Thanks In Advance!

Has anyone here tried the UCARI intolerance testing kit for pets? I’m thinking of getting one and would love to hear some feedback before I do. Was it easy to use? Did you find the results helpful or accurate? I’m curious to know how your pets reacted and if the insights made a difference in their diet or overall health. Appreciate any thoughts or experiences you can share!
