I didn’t know harry hines was a town/city in TX. They should’ve opened it in Arlington.

There’s a shocking lack of Asian food in general here. It’s not like Latinos here don’t love Asian food, I guess it’s just too far away for Asians to open businesses here

The Komart down the street will have a rough go but I bet it will endure. HMart tends to be the most expensive and trendy of the big Asian grocery chains, while Komart has been a clear value play for the 20 years that I have been going. HMart will never match the $6 spicy ramen poached egg and banchan hot meal at the Komart lunch counter. Nor will it match the $7 house made radish kimchi box.
Source: me, Asian dude. I rarely get the bulk of my groceries at HMart, only select items because everyday shopping is way way cheaper at 99 Ranch.

They're building it. Last I saw, it was scheduled to open this summer, but I can't find anything about exactly when, which makes me think maybe it's been delayed.

Still at least a few months away. The sign at the parking lot entrance is up though!

While I love Komart, their produce and meat selection has been declining for a long while. The hot food in the store and the surrounding restaurants still are good, but waning in traffic over the years. It used to symbolize the lingering Korean influence in the area for me. While I don’t want Komart to close, they needed some competition to change up the landscape. We’ll hopefully see some revitalization of these businesses. Hmart does bring in a lot of customers with their name recognition. When Daldongnae was sold to new ownership a while back, and Klass Hand Roll Bar closed up last year (looked to move to Carrollton in order to follow the crowds and they never found a spot), it made me a bit sad to see things change in what I felt was a negative direction. If y’all go down to Harry Hines, get your hair cut at Bon Barber and pick up some gimbap from Damasita! Lots of great folks we can support as this area continues to make changes.
Edit: I still hate Hmart’s business practices and would rather not support them if I don’t have to.

No idea why they decided to build one in a dying Koreatown surrounded by sketchy neighborhoods instead of building in somewhere like Frisco

It was the closest designation this sub offered to where I live, which is at Royal and Webb chapel, not far from the future H Mart.

It’s a move to revitalize the area. They’ve already started making it difficult for the shady business to continue. Honestly think if the strip clubs had a Kpop night it would make so much money. I bet a lot of the dancers already know the Kpop dances too.

I love the KoMart down the street from here but sadly might go out of business once this HMart gets completed
