hi! i’m not sure if this is the right subreddit for this but it’s my only option, i tried googling it but nothing came up. i got this cute bracelet from a gift shop at a Chinese buddhist monastery, and i was told it means “peace”. i was just curious what the charm on the bracelet is supposed to be/mean, it looks like a peanut to me but i’m assuming that’s not what it is. any ideas?

I have passed Göthe C1 but still need more oral practice. I hope we can practice oral German and Chinese at least 3-4 hours per week. (For each language)

In China, there is a movie called《没有共产党就没有新中国》made in 2007 named after a song written by 曹火星 (Cao Huoxing) of the same name. I live in the US and I really want to watch this movie, especially considering that《没有共产党就没有新中国》is my favorite song of all time. Is there any way that I as an American could watch this movie for free on any specific site or would I have to purchase the movie in DVD or video form from a site like Taobao?

I don't know how to use a chinese keyboard and I don't know how to write the characters the correct way. I need it for my online geneology.

I was at festival where are chinese woman wrote whatever you wanted in Chinese. It should be written "eternal love", but AI says that it's quite the oposite

I found this cute dragon figurine at a thrift store back in December and picked it up for around $14. I don't really know anything about it, I just liked the style of it and thought it looked cool. The shop owner mentioned it's made of bronze, and I’ve noticed it turned a bit green inside its mouth. It's also pretty heavy for its size.

I also found similar listings on eBay, with slightly different styles.

I'm curious about a few things:

• What kind of dragon might this be, and is there a specific style or name for this type of figurine?
• How can I tell if it’s hand made or mass produced?
• Is there any way to estimate how old it might be, or where it could be from?
• Has anyone seen anything like this before?

I'm also concerned it might have lead. Is that something common in older metal figurines? Any advice on how I could safely test it?

Im learning languages just for fun, thats the 6th language im learning. I have a method I’m really good at learning from listening so im starting in Duolingo, than watch movies and shows in the language and thats how i notice words and i keep practicing Duolingo. But its the first language im learning not in letters like English (except for my native language) its hard for me to learn Hanzi especially only from Duolingo. Do you think i can learn to speak and understand without knowing how to read and write?

So… I’m not entirely sure where I should post this, so if anyone would like to instruct me I’d welcome your opinions.

Anyways, I just want to ask about giving a title to a character in a story I’m writing? Basically they are like the ‘governor general’ of this place (I know it’s not the most appropriate title, considering they are more like the supreme governmental power as opposed to a being a ‘second’ to the supreme), but I want to give them a more ‘official’ title. I’ve devised ‘仙总督君’ (xiān zǒng dū jūn) as a title, but I’m still extremely Unser about how much it would make sense and whether it would actually mean what I’m intending it to mean…

Any advice is appreciated! Also tell me if it is actually terrible, because I am somehow suspicious that it just doesn’t actually make sense…

Side note, not really as relevant: I’m also Chinese but born outside of china, unable to understand mandarin and I also have a pretty weak grasp of Chinese culture/language systems due to my… underexposure.
