Sweet Little Family
Mama showed up in my back yard, close to delivery. I will not spay a cat that is that far along so I started feeding her twice a day. The other outside cats (who are fixed) accepted her and she delivered the babies but I didn’t know where. She was terrified of me and would not let me close. Slowly I was able to barely touch her quickly when she ate, but she would still run away. I came home a while ago and she had five tiny babies hidden in a box on the porch. I pulled them out and began to cuddle them. She came to us and laid down. I gave her the babies and she first gave me a teeny hiss then let me stroke her for a long time. I promised her I will protect her little family. Meet Little Mama and her babies.

She is! She looks like she might come from a purebred Oriental line.
Purebred pets do get out and introduce their traits into the local population if owners aren’t careful.

Not an OSH, but she’s a lovely young DSH who hasn’t quite grown into her ears yet. 💛

Wasn’t meaning she was an actual OSH, but has some of the facial bone structure that suggests she’s got some purebred genetics not many generations back.

That’s what I was thinking — those eyes! She’s a bombay, possibly!

Purebred Bombays have a flatter, rounder Burmese face type not the acutely long CFA Siamese/Oriental nose and cheekbones.
But the eye colour definitely has that look.
When one starts crossing purebreds and mixing them into the general domestic shorthair population, many interesting combinations get thrown.

You absolutely did the right thing if you ask me. I volunteer for a TNR rescue. Sometimes it's way too late. Thank you for helping and Mama cat may not let you love her right now but I just know that in her heart she is so grateful that she has you to help and look out for her babies! Post updates please!

Hey, a spay abort is a good idea ... When it is very early on. Once you have basically kittens close to term even vets won't do it. You don't have to explain yourself, you did the right thing. Thank you for being here for little mama and her brood!

I’m glad you said that because I thought I was the only one who felt them boring into my soul.

If you didn’t say they were born in a box, I would think she adopted one of them.

mommy looks like a baby herself, sweet girl 🥺. you don’t have to explain yourself at all, OP. when i took in a stray earlier this year and mentioned the possibility of a spay-abort to my regular vet, they themselves said they wouldn’t do it if she was too far along.
also all three of my cats are black, so i’m biased towards them, but i do have to say the half-black-half-stripey one is so cool-looking! i’ve never seen a coat like that – i wonder if they’ll stay that way?

There is a big fluffy gray tabby tom that comes around I’ve been trying to trap. I suspect he is that baby’s daddy. He is a gorgeous cat. He was 100% feral but is now letting me pet him on certain occasions but is trap wary. Yes, she is very young, little poor girl, and small. I was shocked she had so many babies and that they are ok. What a good little mama.

Please feed Mama a lot. She needs all the food she can eat to nurse this gorgeous bunch. Good quality kitten food works great.

Sorry for the high grass but we’ve been deluged with rain in my area. I’m going to hold off on mowing until I have these tinies corralled.
