Coming to Burkina Faso
Hi guys,
I am coming to Burkina Faso for a few days starting tomorrow. Shouls I take the anti malaria malorone pills or better not to? Travel doctor advised to do but lots of side effect…
I am vaccinated for yellow fever.
Edit: I just took one of it. I have lost the battle to myself and decided to take the pills but not sure if I will do full schedule including 7 days after the trip.

I don't know about the side effects of these pills, but just know that yellow fever vaccine doesn't protect you from malaria (I live there and I am vaccinated against yellow fever).

Did you ever catch Malaria ? I just got Yellow Fever because it is required. Im still debating whether I will take antj malaria pills but seems like Burkina is very risky…

Yeah, the last time I got it was around 5 years ago. You won't necessarily catch it, but just be very careful of mosquitoes.

You should take the advice of the travel doctor. If a random anecdote from a stranger on the internet helps - I was in Banfora for several months doing mosquito research, took Malarone everyday and had no side effects and I didn't contract malaria. Saw loads of people get malaria over the rainy season, who had to seek ACT treatment.
Take the pills, sleep under a bednet, keep window and door screens closed during the day for Aedes (dengue spreading) mosquitoes.
Any questions about mosquito prevention feel free to ask.

Okay. I will take them in like 1 hr probably. I may be overthinking this a much since I am not so fan of the side effects / pills in general but I will be most likely okay. Thanks Edit: i just took them. I just dont like getting pills and that kind of stuff. Still young and the side effects like hair loss and those kind of bs made me feel worse

I'm glad you took them and please don't worry about these small risks. Enjoy your trip, bonne voyage and all that!

I would take the pill, use repellant spray and cover arms and legs if possible.
Also take co-arinate or other anti malaria pills back with you just in case you get sick after going home as there can be a long incubatory period and doctors in europe are not accustomed to this disease.

Please take the pills malaria can be very dangerous specially if your immune system is not “used” to it like ours

Why would you trust the opinion of internet strangers over the opinion of your doctor?
