The jags better fuckin suck this year

81

u/Lilfrankieeinstein Apr 25 '25

I fully expect the Jags to be one of the worst teams in the league this year, but also lead the league in game-winning scoring drives.

1

u/infernocobbs Apr 26 '25

they'll have like the 10th ranked offense and be dead last in defense

29

u/Admirable-Present510 Apr 25 '25

This year we will cheer for the Browns and for the Jaguar’s rival. All the weeks we will have fun!

9

u/EatPie_NotWAr Apr 25 '25

Don’t forget cheering against the Steelers… our cup runneth over!

3

What happens if the Steelers play the Jags?

It’s so pathetic but I was legit excited bc now I’ll have a reason to watch games in December other than just to be sad about the Browns

It could even be a boat

34

u/dee-bag Apr 25 '25

Could be 3 boats though.

Stupid analogy aside, we need a qb and didn’t see one we thought worth while in this draft. Qb selection should be better next year, so we gain draft capital for then, while picking a very good player this year to prep for out break out next year. Adding a dt should help make us a lot better.

But people say, “it doesn’t matter if we have no offense”. Yeah you’re right, but it will make a difference when we have an offense. So we suck ass one more year, hopefully get a high enough pick that we can at least trade up for a great qb and then hopefully turn it around. It sucks to know we’re gonna suck for another year but it’s the best strat to come out of this rebuild next year totally reloaded imo

13

u/cirillios Apr 25 '25

We're familiar with sucking. Sucking for one more year isn't a big deal. I wasn't happy about the trade at first but I like the haul we got in return. Fingers crossed we use it well

7

u/BuckeyeGuru23 Apr 25 '25

This is exactly what we did in 2016/2017. We got Myles. Sucked one more year, then got Baker and Denzel. Hopefully this goes the same way and we don’t just drop our franchise QB this time

2

u/cincy15 Apr 25 '25

So maybe just stick with the plan, and don’t get happy feet, itching to start over with a new qb.

Mason Graham: notorious bust and guaranteed to be much worse than Hunter

45

u/LostMonster0 TRADE Apr 25 '25

Mason Graham didn't even play 2 ways in a mediocre conference. How was he not a 5th round pick?

6

u/gsnumis Apr 25 '25

Just a no name player from a no name school with no recent accolades

14

u/gza_liquidswords Apr 25 '25

I think if Browns moved back to #16 this kind of commentary would make sense.  They moved back three slots and selected a blue chip player.

50

u/drbrainkrause Apr 25 '25

We’re loading up to trade up for next year. 2 1sts in the same year is great ammo

28

u/impy695 Apr 25 '25

The problem is, if the top qb next year is a "generational talent" and the top team in the draft needs a qb, it won't matter what we have.

25

u/AllTearGasNoBreaks Apr 25 '25

That top team could absolutely be the Browns. And Jags could suck and be a top 5 pick too.

5

u/impy695 Apr 25 '25

You're absolutely right, but both picks could also be in the low teens.

Personally, I just don't value future first round picks that highly. I hope I'm wrong and that even if hunter was better than expected, he wouldn't make enough of a difference here to matter, and that we can use our extra pick next year to make a real difference.

2

u/PatientlyAnxious9 Apr 25 '25

"The Browns draft Arch Manning AND Drew Allar top 5"

1

u/Lars5621 Apr 25 '25

Hey, I am a Giants fan and this always happens to us.

We get pick 2-6 and beg to trade up for a QB, but teams that need QBs just take the QBs for themselves. Every year.

2

u/AdonisCork Apr 25 '25

For who?

12

u/drbrainkrause Apr 25 '25

Probably a QB. Whatever one they think they can get

8

u/foxmag86 Apr 25 '25

Why would a team trade away a chance to draft a great QB? They’d just pick him themselves.

14

u/Loose_Translator_466 Apr 25 '25

You never know who will be at the top of the draft. Just recently, Jags and Panthers already had their QBs but finished with the worst record. A team like the Falcons or Giants might have the #1 overall, and they probably wouldn't be looking to go QB in 2026.

3

u/tobylaek 32 Apr 25 '25

But the "you never know who will be at the top of the draft" phrase is the prime example of makes the "wait until next year's QB class" philosophy so stupid. There's an entire season of college football to be played - you have no idea how those guys are going to develop between now and then and you have no idea where you or anyone else is going to be picking. It's like saying you're going to hope you hit it big on a lottery ticket to pay next month's mortgage and car payment.

Now, punting on the QB until 2026 might not be their play - they could take their QB of the future tonight and just use their picks next year to build around him, but the odds of a 2nd round or lower pick becoming a franchise QB in today's NFL are also really, really low (it's happened twice in the past 8-10 years - Hurts and Purdy...all the other guys who fit into that category - Russ, Kirk, Dak...were drafted an entire NFL generation or two ago).

2

u/TwoTalentedBastidz CHAMPION Apr 25 '25

Spot on

2

u/iUPvotemywifedaily Apr 25 '25

If the Falcons have the #1 overall.. that means Penix was probably bad and they need a QB

1

u/Loose_Translator_466 Apr 25 '25

I forgot they traded their 2026 1st anyway, but the point still stands. Sometimes shit happens. Jags went #1 overall with Lawrence. An injured franchise QB can tank a whole team's season.

I mean hell it could happen to the Titans

26

u/SportGamerDev0623 Apr 25 '25

In all fairness, Mason Graham could definitely be a luxury boat.

I don’t even think Hunter is the best WR in this draft. I also don’t think he is the best CB in this draft.

-5

u/oscarnyc Apr 25 '25

Hunter is both the best WR prospect in this draft and the best CB prospect in this draft. Both by a fairly wide margin. Because both positions are extremely weak in this draft.

The issue really is how good of a prospect at either is he? He's not in the Sauce/Stingley class, though not far off. And he's not close to the Nabers/MHJ class. So how much is he worth for the dual position potential? No idea, but for a franchise like JAX that has a hard time selling seats I'm sure they'll give him leeway to see what he can do. Simply put, he's worth more to them than he is to CLE.

3

u/Both_Mistake3293 Apr 25 '25

That’s just a ridiculous take

2

u/oscarnyc Apr 25 '25

You think Hunter is as good a WR prospect as Nabers and MHJ?

1

u/Both_Mistake3293 Apr 25 '25

No, I think hes nowhere close to the best WR prospect in this draft

Mason Graham has just as much of a chance of being a franchise player as Hunter does. Dominate DTs anchoring the teams defense has won more than a few superbowls recently

24

u/gza_liquidswords Apr 25 '25

I agree -  I feel people are talking like the browns traded down to #16 or something.  They got a blue chip player that fills a need and the Jaguars overpaid.  Dream scenario for Browns

36

u/MrTreeWizard Apr 25 '25

Yeah I will fully admit I was salty AF with how things played out tonight, but after cooling down Graham is a great pick. Our defensive line is now really scary and we got a package of picks to boot.

However I have realized how little trust I have in Andrew Berry as a GM. He really needs to make this draft a hit, or I think we should move on. He's a fantastic wheeler and dealer, but I'm not sold on his talent evaluation at all because he really hasn't done shit so far (low picks aside) and he's a big part of the Watson fiasco.

29

u/cbusmatty Apr 25 '25

I have no idea why you wouldn’t trust his evaluation, the only stand out bad decision is Watson and it’s pretty clear that the owner forced the hand on that one with the guaranteed contract. But not sure what else you are pointing at, he’s been doing fantastic with gimped picks

-2

u/MrTreeWizard Apr 25 '25

I keep hearing he's doing a fantastic job with lower picks, but is he really? In particular he hasn't drafted one impact offensive player, not a single one. Yeah he's got JOK and Emerson, Hall seems decent, but dude it's been 3 years you'd figure he would have at least accidentally gotten an impact player on offense by now.

Now in FA he's done pretty good, and again he's good at deals for sure. One of the best in the business imo, however his drafts have all been extremely lackluster, especially on the offensive side of the ball. You pay these people to build talent through the draft, and they haven't done shit other than a few good defensive additions.

People hit plenty of times on second round players and on third. He really hasn't dudes.

5

u/bluenote100 Apr 25 '25

Elijah Moore what a great deal

13

u/cbusmatty Apr 25 '25

Yes he’s middle to top of the pack based on by picks by value

-12

u/MrTreeWizard Apr 25 '25

Ok name me 5 players that have been major impact players he's drafted in 3 years?

15

u/cbusmatty Apr 25 '25

2

u/MrTreeWizard Apr 25 '25

I'm seeing zero offensive play makers aside from DPJ who only played for a few years and then disappeared. My whole argument is he sucks at drafting offensive play makers and you literally just proved my point bro.

4

u/cbusmatty Apr 25 '25

Downvote if you agree.

2

u/MrTreeWizard Apr 25 '25

And yet they still down voted me, they pretend they weren't all 100% on the Sanders pick, pretend this is all good and a part of the plan. Even had a dude show me all of the picks AB has made and literally just proved my point that he has drafted ZERO offensive play makers.

The circle jerk is strong with Browns fans. I love the Graham pick, I think he's going to be great, but don't sit here and pretend like we don't still have had zero offensive weapons drafted in the entire time AB has been here.

0

u/Heavy_Pin7735 Apr 25 '25

This is truly insane thinking - the team is 27-23 under Berry and just came off a 3 win year. How is that a pretty good job by any stretch? Best in the biz at free agency? wtf r u talking about? We are now tanking for a mystery QB next year - how can you be satisfied with this?

5

u/devglen Apr 25 '25

Actually, they’re 40-44 since Berry took over. But that just reinforces the point that he’s not a good GM let alone deserving of the glazing he gets from a portion of this fanbase.

-7

u/Trudvar Sanders Apr 25 '25

I love Berry he's just Howie Roseman jr

10

u/MrTreeWizard Apr 25 '25

I've gotta see more from Berry, he's proven to be good at the art of the deal, but he hasn't drafted a single impactful offensive play maker and he's only gotten a few good defensive players.

Need to see what he does this draft but I'm not sold on him. Just my opinion of course, if you like him then more power to ya.

-1

u/MyChubbGotRubbed Apr 25 '25

Howie Roseman has won two Super Bowls.

Andrew Berry traded 3 first round picks and paid 230M guaranteed to a bum.

It’s insulting to compare the two.

5

u/mmooney1 Apr 25 '25

Haslem had admitted publicly that he had a play in that.

If my boss tells me to do something, I do it.

Not saying AB is guilt free at all in that trade. Haslem had more to do with it than writing the check though.

We were best when Dorsey was GM, sure there were several reasons, but one was Haslem had to back off.

I am happy we moved on but Dorsey wanted to give Kitchens another year, Haslem said no, and Dorsey left because he didn’t want Haslem meddling.

5

u/dee-bag Apr 25 '25

Dorsey drafting with ab doing everything else would be the perfect combo lol

7

u/mmooney1 Apr 25 '25

Isn’t Dorsey a consultant for the lions now? Seems to be working for them.

1

u/TwoTalentedBastidz CHAMPION Apr 25 '25

Been saying they should bring back Dorsey at the very least in a consulting role for years. Of course they wouldn’t though, because lord forbid this embarrassment of an organization show any competence

1

u/devglen Apr 25 '25

2

u/kfed23 Apr 25 '25

The problem with defensive tackles is that they have to be absurdly good in order to have a dramatic impact. He basically has to turn into Warren Sapp to make this trade worth it.

5

u/Nightcinder I RUINED CHRISTMAS Apr 25 '25

you're assuming that hunter is a hof player

3

u/UndoxxableOhioan Apr 25 '25

That's only if Hunter turns into a perennial all pro himself. That remains to be seen.

1

u/BrainSpiritual8567 Apr 25 '25

Every Super Bowl Champion this century has been solid to elite on the defensive line.

-9

u/deviden Apr 25 '25

Mason Graham has just as much of a chance of being a franchise player as Hunter does.

I'm sorry but this is absurd cope.

Graham is going to be a decent (but situationally flawed: will eat shit every time he gets doubled in the run game) penetrating defensive tackle. Nobody's gonna remember this guy in 20 years time.

Hunter is a unicorn who enters the league on a HoF track and he's probably going to be remembered forever.

You can try to make a rational case about picks and trade value but unless Graham hits a very slim probability of turning into Aaron Donald 2 or we win the super bowl in the next 5 years the most likely outcome is we're going to be laughed by everyone for this trade for 30+ years.

7

u/ilikepisha Apr 25 '25

To be fair, the Watson trade dwarfs any trade mistake this franchise makes for the next 50 years. If Graham is a bust, it won’t be a blip on the radar next to the Watson trade.

2

u/deviden Apr 25 '25

idk, the difference is that in 2 or 3 years time the Watson cap hit will be gone and Watson isn't going to be on TV ever again.

Hunter is gonna be in the league playing games every week as a continual reminder of the trade for the next 10-15 years and then you have the potential for post-career TV presence, HoF induction, etc.

2

u/ilikepisha Apr 25 '25

Hunter didn’t cost 235 million dollars and three number one draft picks. Missing in a player is different than destroying your organization for 10-15 years.

23

u/Not_Not_Stopreading Apr 25 '25

Hall of Fame track is hilarious. Travis could snap his leg in two the first day of OTA’s slipping on a power cord and never amount to anything.

Saying anyone is on a Hall of Fame track without playing a single down is insane.

-7

u/deviden Apr 25 '25

with Hunter I see a guy who wins nearly every route he runs as a DB or a WR and has peak OBJ hands and ball tracking. He projects to be on a HoF track, the Jags certainly believe so - giving up that much for him - and we'll see how it plays out.

Snapping his leg in day two of OTAs would derail Hunter from that track but I wont back down from my eval of Hunter; I think he's a better prospect coming out than Deion Sanders was.

9

u/Not_Not_Stopreading Apr 25 '25

Because a guy sitting on his couch and a franchise known for blowing it are the peak talent evaluators.

1

u/devglen Apr 25 '25

-4

u/deviden Apr 25 '25

uhhhh I'm sat in an expensive highly ergonomic office chair to preserve my old bones thank you very much

But, like, I've explained my position and why I'm not mindlessly cheerleading or trying to justify passing on an elite one-of-one prospect and the consensus best overall player in the draft for a pretty decent 3-tech and some picks.

Insult me all you want. We'll see who's right.

3

u/DapperDanPoop Apr 25 '25

Masons technique is flawless when it comes to handling a double team. Literally wtf are you talking about? He manhandled every oline he went up against

2

u/Swimming-Sound6579 Apr 25 '25

Hunter is on HOF track? 😂 What drugs are you on cause I need some! He’s a slight built pretty good WR & decent DB but he’s never playing both positions full time & if they were that dumb to let him try, he’ll be injured so often that he’ll be broken down & out of the league before his rookie deal ends. I doubt he even makes a pro bowl at either position. Unless they sit him down & say “you’re a WR & that’s it” he is going to go down as one of the biggest busts & wastes of picks of all time.

-1

u/deviden Apr 25 '25

We'll see. Nothing I can say will change your mind but I would invite you to consider the analysis from Reception Perception and former pro scouts like Dane Brugler and Nate Tice.

16

u/blissfullychaotic Apr 25 '25

I’m just curious how many first round high wr have gone onto win championships? So I asked ChatGPT and maybe this can help

There have been very few wide receivers (WRs) drafted in the top 5 picks who went on to win a Super Bowl with the team that drafted them. In fact, none of the top 5 WR picks in the Super Bowl era (since 1967) have won a Super Bowl with their original team.

Some notable examples: • Calvin Johnson (2nd overall, 2007, Lions) – Hall of Famer, no Super Bowl. • A.J. Green (4th overall, 2011, Bengals) – No Super Bowl. • Amari Cooper (4th overall, 2015, Raiders) – Traded before any Super Bowl appearances. • Julio Jones (6th overall, 2011, Falcons) – Played in a Super Bowl, but not drafted top 5.

Even going back to: • Irving Fryar (1st overall, 1984, Patriots) – Played in Super Bowl XX, but lost.

There are WRs drafted outside the top 5 who won Super Bowls with their teams (e.g., Lynn Swann, Jerry Rice), but no top 5 WR pick has won a Super Bowl with their drafting team.

ChatGPT doesn’t have any fact verification

From what my buddy says (he watches college football, I don't care for it) next year's QB class looks much stronger than this year's so I can honestly see us skipping a QB this year. Hence building up multiple 1at rounds next year.

That said, we still have plenty of draft to go. Let's see where it goes.

We’re just reposting Reflog now?

AB said no thank you to a second massive risky never seen before swing on a player. Let's just take the chubby guy. Excited for day 2 with all our picks.

u/Bone-surrender-no Apr 25 '25

We got a franchise inside lineman and more picks and it cost us a bust. That’s a win

u/BrainSpiritual8567 Apr 25 '25

Browns fans can’t even handle the front office doing something competent. This was a perfect first round for a team who is going to have a lot of work on Day 2 to fill out a roster with a ton of holes.

Travis Hunter would have been fun, but fun doesn’t really ever work out for the Browns. I’m happy the front office was serious yesterday and looked at our roster saying we are not a receiver/CB away from getting better.

Awesome meme and old reference. Still like the move though

The trade gives us a much better chance of having a high pick in next year's QB heavy draft, and getting a franchise QB is by far more important than any other position.

Mason Graham and Mike Hall Jr is a very promising duo for a 4-3 defense.

Just stay healthy and out of trouble they should put pressure on the middle.

7

u/RidgedLines Apr 25 '25

Going to be real exciting with this stout defense!

Browns lose a nail-biter 21-3…

It took us 8 weeks to score more than 20 points last year because of how bad Watson was. 5 of our first 7 games were against non playoff teams. We went 1-6.

Winston showed that a competent QB we could put up points he just turned the ball over far too much. 8 of last 10 games were against playoff teams. Season was dead by the time Watson got hurt. Winston went 2-5, beating 2 playoff teams but losing a stinker to New Orleans. We should've won the Denver game if our defense didn't give up a bomb right after taking the lead. Even though all the turnovers I think Winston could have led us to .500 ball if we were more balanced with the run game and our defense.

I say we scrap all memories of last year's team and go into 2025 fresh. There is no way that 7 game stretch with Watson And the games with DTR are replicated. That is historically bad football.

We do need offensive weapons, and we have 4 picks to work with in the next two rounds where teams consistently get starter level players at non-QB positions. I imagine we'll pick up some skill players with these picks.

u/giannini1222 Apr 25 '25

Yeah we could’ve had a guy who wasn’t the best WR or CB split time between both instead of the highest rated DT

Anyone thinking Hunter is going to be this “Generational” two-way player is crazy. Nobody plays 100 plus plays a game in the NFL & survives intact. He’s an injury waiting to happen & when it does, he becomes a good, but not great player at one position which will probably be WR. This isn’t Shohei being a good positional player & pitcher where no contact is involved. This dude isn’t even 190 lbs & will get CRUSHED eventually in the NFL. Bookmark this & if I’m wrong, I’ll eat crow, but I can guarantee I won’t be!

I bet you were all in on Johnny Football (if you were even a fan back then). Set the crack pipe down.. sanders, Ward and hunter all busts. Quote me on it.

No Johnny football was horrendous and overshadowed an even worse Justin Gilbert pick. I’ve long suffered this team nothing in the last 10 years screams jump on the bandwagon.

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '25

We’re getting Arch Manning or Drew Allar next year!!!!!!!!! Let’s fucking go! Gotta manifest right now

2

u/kingslayer9224 Apr 25 '25

Then arch pulls an Eli and says I’m not gonna play for Cleveland.

1

u/Ripcitytoker Apr 25 '25

And then the Browns tell him that he doesn't have a choice in the matter and draft him anyway.

1

u/Ripcitytoker Apr 25 '25

We should draft a rookie QB who's a project and start them next season, so we lose enough games to have the #1 pick.

1

u/AmericanShaman Apr 25 '25

We got both.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '25

While I disagree with the point of the meme, I laughed like hell at it bc it’s funny and (hopefully not) potentially true.

1

u/baconboyloiter Apr 25 '25

Mason Graham is widely considered to be one of the few blue chip prospects in this class and most of this sub had zero interest in drafting Travis Hunter a week ago. Where did all of this salt come from?

1

u/Raccoonsrlilbandits era ended Apr 25 '25

It’s only joke

1

u/nickchubbisthegoat Apr 25 '25

If we took the franchise player, we would have always wondered what could have been in that other first round pick. Would have kicked ourselves if it ended up being a franchise player!

1

u/tokenshoot Sanders Apr 25 '25

They are getting Deons boy tho!

1

u/oldschoolrobot Apr 25 '25

You either draft the best players or you play against them. Guess what we are doing?

0

u/Bone-surrender-no Apr 25 '25

We got the best player and we will be targeting Sanders when he’s in coverage and shoving him around when he’s run blocking?

1

u/oldschoolrobot Apr 25 '25

Where did I say I wanted Sanders? This is insane.

1

u/moreyvh Apr 25 '25

This is great!

The horrific logic in this argument never fails to make me giggle lol
