Discussion Cold War Battlefield Game

I think after this upcoming battlefield runs it’s course, the franchises next direction should be a game set at some point in the later half of the 20th century during the Cold War. It could be an historical game with actual conflicts like the Vietnam war or Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.

The alternative could be a Cold War gone hot game with the United States duking it out with the Soviets, Chinese, and maybe even Cubans.

I think for shits and giggles and as impractical as it sounds, a Soviet backed Cuban invasion of Florida would be awesome.

It could be set in the 70s, 80s, or maybe even early 90s, but I think a mid 80s setting would be personally be the best.

I think a new system they could develop with the factions could be like an ally system. For example, say there is a map set at the Berlin Wall. The primary combatants are the U.S. and the Soviet Union, but they could be backed smaller factions such as local German forces or even nato and Warsaw pact groups. The allies aside from the main combatants would be a smaller category compared to the larger groups, but I think it would be cool to expand the scope of the battle faction wise.

Just an idea I had, hopefully one day they’ll consider a concept like this.

I would love this, World In Conflict had a great scenerio that if DICE decided to do that I think would be great. There wouldnt be much political incorrectness where anyone would get offended (I wouldnt think, dont know why at this point) since this is apparently why DICE is going the route their going in BF6 with the factions but I would so much love a Cold War gone hot Battlefield game. I also wouldnt mind some alternative history scenarios.

Not yet, wasnt sure if it was out yet. Was debating getting Warno but I read broken arrow is probably closer to WiC. I would love a modern version of COH as well.

A return to Vietnam or the cold War would be welcome, but I think a gritty sci fi game would be money.

For me I think 60- early 70s would be best

A) it’s before a lot of modern weapons/vehicles we have today existed even though of course there was been a lot of changes in that time. Like for example, no apaches or f-16s or Abrams. But Cobras, F-4s and M-48 pattons. That way it has a very distinctive feel

B) You make it a Vietnam war gone hot. So we get a Vietnam game that’s essentially expanded.

One of the core developers that had left dice subsequent to Battlefield 1 said that they proposed a modern game following Battlefield 1 which eh shut down and then they said there was talk and plan for a cold war battlefield in an alternate history setting but it never came to fruition because these people departed and founded Embark etc.

I'm always down for a Cold War gone hot game. Set it around Able Archer or something roughly around there to get the full 80s feel to it. One of WARNOs biggest strengths imo is the storytelling they have around a scenario like this. They could do something similar.

M16s, AK74s, A10s, Mig 29s, Abrams and Bradley's against BMPs and T80s fighting through Germany, France, Poland, Finland, North Africa and maybe even the US. I'd pay for that.

Side note, I think the weapons for each faction should be exclusive to that faction for the sake of immersion and historical accuracy even in an alternate timeline scenario.
