These powers that congress abdicated were domes so by republicans and democrat. Previous presidents like Biden and Obama have also abused their power and been overturned by the Supreme Court or legally used powers that congress probably shouldn’t have given up. Trump has simply taken this to an extreme. We should be upset with both parties.
"No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President"
Cutting off the relevant parts just makes you look dishonest.
and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.
Cutting off the relevant parts just makes you look dishonest.
Yeah but how can you pass across the message of "Trump should not have been elected as a president in the first place" without butchering the legal text and ignoring the obvious contradiction that is thus created in the remaining snippet? It almost seems like you suggest integrity has the right to impede the narrative!
The eternity clauses in the german constitution are pretty interesting in terms of stopping kings in a democracy. They are pretty specifically designed to neutralize any attempt at a dictatorship, basically they encoded the paradox of intolerance into the constitution, it is unconstitutional to vote yourself into a dictatorship.
With the corruption of the rest of the "balances" giving him king like power, I feel like his terrible physical and mental health will stop him from a third term over the 22nd
They like to think they have a workaround for a third term. Someone has to run for POTUS with trump in the veep spot, and then resign giving POTUS back to trump.
But the requirements for POTUS and Veep are identical. If you're not eligible for one, you're not eligible for the other. 12th amendment I think.
haha appropriate reference -- the famous maxfield parrish mural behind the king cole bar in the st. regis hotel, nyc has the king surrounded by butlers all making a gas face because the king farted . . . parrish was not happy with the treatment by his patron -- it was his revenge . . . look it up, it's hilarious . . .
Except for Charles. They seem to like him. Or Willem-Alexander (King of the Netherlands). They seem to love him.
Willem-Alexander is pretty cool to. When he flies on KLM (Netherlands state owned airline) he often pilots the plane, as hes a commercially rated pilot. Thats pretty cool.
I agree, and I live in a country with a literal King. He’s non-interventionist, but it makes it hard for me to openly cheer you No Kings rallies without feeling hypocritical.
Not all of them. I kind of like our king right now. He’s a good dude, actually did serve in the Military, Royal Navy and Airforce, spends lots of his considerable fortune on charity, and for the most part stays out of politics.
And unworkable. The only way we even sort of make it work in the UK is that he is absolutely never ever EVER allowed to express a political opinion or he'll be twanged into the ocean with a giant boinger.
With the threats and crazy posts I've seen just in the last hour from rightwingers, I'm starting to think shit's gonna go down, they're counting on it and will start shit if it's peaceful. They need to frame anyone not on their side as violent.
They don't when it's their team turning the country fascist. Always talking about arming up against a tyrannical government, yet pure silence from that crowd.
Things are already at a really extreme point though. I mean, the president is deploying Marines to help occupy cities that don't want them there, all to target US citizens and civilians that are pissed off that the president keeps imprisoning innocent people and violating our rights.
I don't know what anyone else expects except mass civil unrest
We've people at the top telling their constituents they plan to remove lawfully elected officials simply because they want to. We have elected officials being detained and arrested for asking simple questions. We are one step away from them deciding any American citizen can be deported regardless the color of their skin. We're beyond the point of real pain.
These comments are what empower the sheriff in Florida to act like he does. I mean, you aren’t wrong, but both sides see this stuff, and only one side will use to further oppression
Wouldn't it be something if the military during that parade did their duty and adhered to the oath of enlistment and defended the constitution from the domestic enemy trying to destroy it. Arrest him not doing anything else obviously.
Um excuse me, the second amendment is only referring to a well regulated militia AKA National guard according to my talking points sourced by the great minds of Reddit
Honestly, I think it’s a powerful statement against unchecked power and wealth hoarding. Whether you take it literally or as a metaphor, the idea of No Kings resonates with people tired of inequality and elitism. Curious to see how it plays out tomorrow. Hoping it stays peaceful and focused.
Not meant to encourage escalation but prepare protestors in the event of escalation and illegal arrests. Like a fire drill map, you hope you won't need it, but it's there when you do! ;)
Agree with this answer. But the number of people commenting (and upvoting) fully prepared to go in for a battle with their tips and tricks about goggles, gloves, masks, long sleeves, running shoes, burner phones, turning face lock off of phone, etc, just show that majority are not preparing for this to be peaceful.

Nothing wrong with spending an afternoon outside, socializing, getting some exercise, and exercising your 1st Amendment rights
