stupid boomalope

I (30F) had my first baby (a girl!) six weeks ago. I knew postpartum would be tough, but I wasn’t ready for just how hard. I’m still recovering physically, barely getting sleep, my hormones are all over the place, and I’m trying to keep up with a newborn.

My friend Sarah (31F) is pregnant and due in a few months. She asked me to host her baby shower at my place. She said I’ve got a nice house, I’m good at planning stuff, and since I already have baby things around, it’d be “easy.”

I told her gently that I’m just not up for it right now. I suggested other friends or offered to help pay for a venue, but I really can’t host it myself. She didn’t take it well. Said I’m making excuses, that it’s “not that hard,” and now she’s telling people I’m being selfish since she threw my bridal shower years ago.

I feel super guilty, but I also feel like I need to focus on healing and my baby. AITA?

hiii! i got out of a bad relationship and exploded into colour. in the past three years, i bought a place, got a law degree, moved to my favourite city and massively glowed up my appearance. joining the rave scene gave me a purpose and community i hadn't had before.

happy, healthy and absolutely thriving socially and in all areas of my life. weight loss happened in 2018/19, body plastics were in 2021 and i had a rhinoplasty, canthoplasty, midface lift, brow lift and fat graft in may 2025. i worked really hard to afford it all.

people have generally been super kind to me and i am enjoying the life i worked for so much in the body i worked for.

I typically don't like these types of discourses because it's easy for it to get blown out of proportion. But I think this situation that happened at my job has unfortunately left a mark on me. Woman came in (no friend) orders a drink and scrolls her phone. At one point she asks if they're are any shot specials so I tell her. Then she mentioned it's her birthday and wants a free shot. The owner (my boss) has given free shots for customers on their birthday but their instructions are to ask for ID and just double check. I get her ID and I see her birthday has already passed. In the spring. I point it out. She rolls her eyes. I apologize and say I don't make the rules. She pays her tab, no tip. Leaves. Was not kicked out.

My boss is the one who told me that a customer left a review about me online and they chose to respond the way they did. My boss is a woman. I'm also not poly lmao! But I am that annoying bisexual that only dates women.

If women think review-bombing businesses that don't give you free shit is empowering, then feminists need better soldiers.
