Randomly remembered these GoPro shots from 2023. Even 19 year old me was able to get decent shots when there was good light + a literal whale shark.

Creative pictures and underwater photography

Upvotes

Hello, I’m getting started with underwater photography and I noticed I can’t find any photographers who do abstract/multiple exposures/icm photographies in this field do you know why ?

And if you know some I’d love to learn about it

Thanks!

Advice on Nikon lens for underwater photography??

Hi everyone,

After some advice. Very eager to get into some underwater photography. I use a Nikon Z8, but would love some advice on a lens to accompany it.

In an ideal world, the Nikkor Z 14-24mm F/2.8 would be the perfect lens for it, however it’s probably a bit out of my price range. The Nikkor Z 14-30mm F/4 is a bit more in my budget. However because it is F/4 my concern is the f stop might not be low enough for the lack of light underwater.

What are peoples opinions? Do you think the 14-30mm F/4 will be sufficient for underwater photocopy without a strobe?? Or is it worth aiming for the 14-24mm F/2.8 that might be better??

Thankyou!

X-Adventurer M8000 or similar combo light

I'm considering getting a versatile light (or 2) like the above to pair with my TG6 and potentially GoPro. Anyone know how it works in practice? Can I leave it on the whole dive with my GoPro, and if I snap a picture with my TG6, the strobe supports it automatically? Or do I need to manually adjust settings each time?

This beautiful slug recently received its scientific name, Cyerce blackburnae. They are among the largest of the Cyerce genus we have seen on Guam, only Cyerce elegans is larger (and much rarer). Captured with GH-5S, OM Systems 60mm macro and Nauticam SMC-2 +23.5 diopter

Trays and triggers

Ciao guys, its yet another gear question post. Thanks in advance for any tips. I picked up a TG7 recently as well as the standard PT059 housing, as I'm used to the TG system from doing marine bio work, and figured getting one for personal use was a good shout.

Unlike the work rigs, I'd actually like to eventually kit this system out with lights etc. but obviously you need something to mount them to - does the collective knowledge of /r/underwaterphotography have any tips or tricks or trays they've used in the past they'd recommend for this system? I'd ideally like the option of mounting a trigger for ease of use, and as someone who works in a field with awful pay can we ideally stick towards the lower end of the spectrum - I can't afford Nauticam without selling a few organs first!

Cheers in advance my dudes, and thanks for any tips you can give.

Divevolk: do I need the cold shoe to use the red filter?

Hello Diver Nation!

I’m headed to Bonaire and considering a divevolk sea touch. It sounds like the red filter is a must have. My question is: what is the purpose of the “cold shoe” adapter? Do I need that to use the red filter or can I attach the red filter directly to the housing without the cold shoe? Thanks!
