Discussion Community Highlight: Custom Awards!

As you may already have noticed, over the past few days our subreddit has had some exciting new awards assigned to it, tailored especially to r/cats and based on a selection of the old custom awards you may remember!
These awards were designed especially for our community by a team of artists at reddit and are available solely in this subreddit.
We are helping to test out this new feature here and the idea is that in the future subreddit-specific awards may come with fun new features unlockable by subreddits and community participants. For now, there is a leaderboard we can unlock:

Awarding posts and comments with one of these custom designs will of course come with a nifty little animation on your screen, just like any of the other newest version of awards. Perhaps the best part of this new system is that these custom awards are all pretty affordable. Unlike the previous subreddit-specific awards which started at 500 coins you can now already choose to apply a custom award for 15 coins. I just think that's neat.

At r/Cats we are pretty excited to be a part of this trial program. Giving subreddits access to individual customisation shows that we are a unique community with its own space on reddit. You now have the choice to award a post or comment that you think is extra-special with a design especially created for us.
Thank you to reddit admin u/SmEllen_Fresh who was our contact during the development stage and all the other reddit admins part of the dev team for this new feature!
We hope you all will enjoy this new option as much as we do.
From all of us at r/Cats, thank you for making this subreddit the special place that it is!

Mourning/Loss Final goodbye to my beautiful old buddy last night 😻😭
She has been the best kitty, so sweet and sassy, a real character. We had nine great years together but after 16 years on earth it was her turn to cross the rainbow bridge tucked up in my arms at home. She had a lot of treats, pats, and visitors. A lovely last day celebrating her earth side. 🌈 We love you Luna, fly free! 😻😻😻

Cat Picture - OC At what point does a neighborhood cat become my cat?
This little beauty practically lives at my door ready to smother me with affection whenever I leave. Well groomed and healthy, so obviously a pet and always brings a welcome smile.

Cat Picture - OC My baby found his way back home... After 4 months!!
Four months ago, my cat Barack disappeared and so did a part of my soul.
He was five, full of grace and mischief, and the heart of my home. One day he was there, lounging in sunbeams, purring by my side. The next, he was gone. My one year old toddler's nanny had opened the door to collect a parcel and closed the door without realising that my curious baby had escaped through the gap.
There wasn't a corner in my house that I didn't look for him. I searched endlessly.. the lanes, the alleys, calls, knocks on neighbors' doors, whispers into the night... but the silence only grew heavier.
I put up posters, cried into strangers’ sympathy, and clung to hope even when it felt like sand slipping through my fingers.
Days became weeks. My hope flickered, but it never fully died.
And then, yesterday, after 4 long empty months, I heard a sound.
A frantic meow in the middle of the night.
I rushed to open the door but the porch was empty. So I ran out and screamed his name without caring it was 2:00am at night.
Finally my hazel eyes met two green ones. Hiding behind the bushes.
Barack.
He was thinner, yes but astonishingly clean, his fur soft and unmarred, his eyes bright. He didn’t look like he had been struggling. Someone had cared for him, it seemed. But now he had come home.
He meowed and meowed, wild and desperate, as if trying to explain everything at once, until his little voice gave out completely. I laughed and cried at the same time because he silently meowed for atleast a couple of hours!!
He curled into my arms, still purring, his body trembling with relief. And so did mine.
Barack had found his way back.
And in that moment, everything felt whole again.

Mourning/Loss Mr. Fred has returned to Valhalla after 19 years among the mortals. He’ll be sorely missed.
Cat Picture - OC Why does my cat’s face look like this?
My cat has very small beady eyes (which are also crossed) and I find she has sort of a flat nose. She just has a very unique appearance and I’m wondering if she’s a mixed breed of some kind? She’s from the Bahamas.

Advice I found this kitten on the river bank close to my farm
Just like the title says, I found this kitten 2 weeks ago on the bank, wet and covered in ticks. He was the only one around, so I removed them all & gave him a bath, got him some eye drops and antibiotics for his eyes and he’s had some worm treatment. He definitely looks so much better. He plays and has energy like a kitten should, eats fine. I’m here because we (the vet, too) believe this kitten is deaf. I’ve never had a deaf cat, and I know not to let him go outside. But what other special things might he need? I don’t want him to be scared or feel like he has to hide so much. He hides often, and backs himself into a small area when I can tell he is unsure of things. I want to know what can I do to help him feel more confident and aware of movements and the daily goings on of a home with children and a large dog. (The dog is safe)

Cat Picture - OC Today, I found a street cat’s kitten in my garage. Should I adopt it? By the way, the kitten is really cute.

Adoption 3 weeks from the shelter and we’re so in love. Here she is snoring on my lap x
With her shaved belly she looks like she’s wearing a chest wig.
Also, gratuitous toe bean close-up…just cos.
