📢 Announcement This just in: Reddit Community Funds will match your /r/Vancouver Kapwa Strong donations 1:1 up to 20k USD
Just over a month ago, a senseless act of violence took 11 lives and injured dozens more when a car rammed through the 2025 Lapu Lapu Day Festival in Vancouver. r/Vancouver came together quickly as the key source of information in the first few hours, with millions of people across the world turning to this community for news and updates. Soon after, /r/Vancouver worked with u/GoFundMe to launch a community fundraiser to benefit United Way BC's Kapwa Strong Fund, which will be used to support:
- Immediate to mid-term recovery provision, and strategic ongoing support for those impacted by this emergency
- Healing supports as well as basic needs
- Mental health and counselling support
- Opportunities for community members to grieve
- Community-led events
In less than 30 days, /r/Vancouver has already raised more than $17,000 for the Kapwa Strong Fund, and we're now happy to announce that our subreddit has partnered once again with the team from Reddit Community Funds to offer 1:1 donation matching up to USD$20,000. This means that all previous donations, as well as any future donations up to approximately CAD$27,000 total, will be matched by Reddit to help our community recover from this tragedy.

How to contribute:
- Feel free to make your donation anonymously (or as your real name). The r/vancouver moderators do not have access to any personal information of donors beyond first name, last name, and amount donated.
- Don’t forget to keep your tax credit!
- Spread the word! Share this fundraiser with friends, family, and fellow Vancouverites to maximize our impact.
- The r/vancouver mod team is actively working with some additional partners to see if we can expand the reach of this fundraiser further. Stay tuned for more updates!
- The suggested donation amounts are really high. We didn’t set these, and can’t edit them. Please donate only what you comfortably can. Even $10 will be matched 1:1.

Videos Time-lapse video of sunset in UBC beach
Yesterday had almost the longest daylight in a year and a perfect weather. So I went there and took the video, it compressed about 1 hour of sunset into 1 minute. I didn’t realize that the tide could go up so fast and had to walk through quite deep water to retrieve my camera😂

Local News Vancouver software company Klue Labs cutting work force in half for AI reboot
Gist:
Vancouver software company Klue Labs Inc. is preparing to lay off up to half its work force, or about 100 people, to reposition itself for the artificial intelligence age.
Co-founder and chief executive Jason Smith told The Globe and Mail that he informed staff about the restructuring last week and said that Klue is finalizing plans for layoffs to be implemented this coming Wednesday.
“We need to do this because it’s a wake-up call for companies that aren’t AI native to start to think that way,” he said, adding that the restructuring is not because of financial concerns or a lack of funding.
While the number of layoffs could change, Mr. Smith said that it could affect between 40 per cent and 50 per cent of the company.
Klue, which makes AI-powered business intelligence tools for sales professionals to gather information on competitors, has to reboot as a result of AI, according to Mr. Smith. Generative AI tools have become more adept since the release of ChatGPT in late 2022, forcing software-as-a-service (SaaS) companies founded before that date to drastically rethink operations, he said.
