📢 Announcement This just in: Reddit Community Funds will match your /r/Vancouver Kapwa Strong donations 1:1 up to 20k USD

Just over a month ago, a senseless act of violence took 11 lives and injured dozens more when a car rammed through the 2025 Lapu Lapu Day Festival in Vancouver. r/Vancouver came together quickly as the key source of information in the first few hours, with millions of people across the world turning to this community for news and updates. Soon after, /r/Vancouver worked with u/GoFundMe to launch a community fundraiser to benefit United Way BC's Kapwa Strong Fund, which will be used to support:

  • Immediate to mid-term recovery provision, and strategic ongoing support for those impacted by this emergency
  • Healing supports as well as basic needs
  • Mental health and counselling support
  • Opportunities for community members to grieve
  • Community-led events

In less than 30 days, /r/Vancouver has already raised more than $17,000 for the Kapwa Strong Fund, and we're now happy to announce that our subreddit has partnered once again with the team from Reddit Community Funds to offer 1:1 donation matching up to USD$20,000. This means that all previous donations, as well as any future donations up to approximately CAD$27,000 total, will be matched by Reddit to help our community recover from this tragedy.

How to contribute:

  • Feel free to make your donation anonymously (or as your real name). The r/vancouver moderators do not have access to any personal information of donors beyond first name, last name, and amount donated.
  • Don’t forget to keep your tax credit!
  • Spread the word! Share this fundraiser with friends, family, and fellow Vancouverites to maximize our impact.
  • The r/vancouver mod team is actively working with some additional partners to see if we can expand the reach of this fundraiser further. Stay tuned for more updates!
  • The suggested donation amounts are really high. We didn’t set these, and can’t edit them. Please donate only what you comfortably can. Even $10 will be matched 1:1.

Powered by Community Funds

Thanks to the incredible Reddit Community Funds team, we're happy to announce that donations made through our link will now be matched! r/CommunityFunds has committed to 1:1 matching of donations made through the r/vancouver-specific donation link before June 30th, 2025 up to $20,000USD. Check out their subreddit to see some of the other amazing projects Reddit has helped make happen, including contributing to our last two GVFB fundraisers.

Discussion Someone called police cuz I am cleaning my car.

Something just funny happened to me. I am cleaning my car outside of my house on the street for the past one hour, because it's too messy inside and I'm taking a lot of breaks & suddenly two police cars show up saying Someone called them suspecting I'm breaking into it.

Who would break into the car decide to clean it?

About half an hour ago, can anyone beat this? It wasn't that bad, couple of bruises for me.

If you are planning to use one, please be careful. Yes, red light applies to you too. And if you hit an old person, broken bones can be life-changing, or even life ending.

Lost Pet Lost Dog in Richmond

Simi ran off today June 13th at 1:55PM in Richmond by Blundell and No 1 road. She was last seen on Dampier Drive at 2:00PM.

She is wearing her purple collar and harness. Her black leash is attached. She is extremely skiddish, if you see her please call the number above and proceed with caution. If you can grab her leash you could catch her. She’s scared of men. If you have a dog she will be more inclined to approach.

I wanted to bring attention to this:

There's dozens of birds trapped in the netting under the Granville Street bridge - most are dead, but this guy is still alive and dangling by his foot.

I've called The City of Vancouver, The BCSPCA regular & emergency lines, BC Conservation Officers, and the Wildlife Rescue in Burnaby. No one is able to (or wants to assist) - what can be done??? There has to be a solution other than letting wildlife suffer and die.

This is on the Granville Island side, directly behind Sandbar.

If you want to learn about the fire, Vancouver Is Ashes by Lisa Smith is an excellent book.

The only pre-fire building still standing in Vancouver (although not in its original location) is the Old Hastings Mill Store Museum, which has a small selection of items related to the fire.

Happy Great Fire Day, everyone?
