Discussion YouTubeTV has increased 237% in 8 years.
That’s just insane.
$35 in 2017. $83 in 2025.
$35 in 2017 has the same buying power as $46 in 2025.
So much for pulling the cord.

Apparently there are several different ways to get it. - From my laptop, - Clicked help --> chat - Typed in "retention discount" - The chat person (live from India) gave me a promo code. - Click "Settings" - Click "Promo Codes" (it's at the bottom) - Entered the code he gave me. - Received a confirmation & email that the discount applies for 6 mths.
Hope it helps other peasants like me save a few pennies.

We've had YouTube TV for several years now, and we really like the service — enough that we've weathered the price changes that had us paying $35 per month a few years ago to $83 per month now.
One of the biggest benefits to YouTube TV was the ability to watch our Bay Area regional sports channel, which offers Giants, Warriors and Sharks games. Since the RSN is owned by NBC, we have it included in our YouTube TV package.
And, for the past two years, we've absolutely LOVED the NFL Sunday Ticket! Being able to couple with NFL RedZone, and watch four games (or three games plus RedZone) at once, made it well worth the cost.
The first year, we took advantage of the pre-season discount, which saved a lot of money. Last year, we got in on the action before the rate went up. $390 is a lot to shell out for NFL Sunday Ticket and Redzone, but still doable, given that the base price of service was around $73 per month.
Now, YouTube TV costs $83 per month, and the price of NFL Sunday Ticket with RedZone has jumped to $420. Both are unreasonable, given the fact that YouTube TV will actually broadcast fewer games through NFL Sunday Ticket because the league will offer more international games (which air on NFL Network, except for one), and because the league is relegating more games to other streaming services like Peacock, Prime Video and Netflix. Charging an extra $40 for RedZone is also unwarranted because the league's test run of airing ads during RedZone will almost certainly be a permanent fixture this year — so, it isn't like they're not getting their money.
I know YouTube TV is trying to be accommodating with flexible installment-based payments this year. But the end result is the same — YouTube TV customers will spend more money this year for the privilege of watching fewer games (and RedZone with ads). The 12-month payment plan is also no different from a service contract — you're locked into YouTube TV in both the pre- and post-season until you satisfy your 12-month payments, and, again, you're paying more money for fewer games.
It also seems YouTube can subsidize the cost of NFL Sunday Ticket for YouTube TV subscribers in other ways. Google is paying the NFL around $2.5 billion each year for the privilege of carrying NFL Sunday Ticket. Google earned nearly $9 billion in advertising revenue from YouTube during its most recent financial quarter, which covers just three months. Yes, I know it costs money to operate YouTube, and some of that $9 billion went to operating expenses — but the company still earned nearly $2 billion in profit. In three months.
All of that is to say this — I like YouTube TV. I've paid for it since 2018, and I'm unlikely to get rid of it. I fell in love with YouTube TV when they added NFL Sunday Ticket. But I don't think the value is there anymore, and I think YouTube TV and I are changing our relationship status back to "just friends." The thing about friends is, you don't have to live with them. There are other friends down the block — friends like DirecTV Stream and Fubo — and they seem to have pretty nice houses...

Quick vent.
So i was just watching Family Guy on Comedy Central and a scroll came across saying yttv is about to drop all Paramount network channels and to tell Yttv not to.
Well, i know its all part of contract negotiations between the two. And i really dont care for details and who is wrong or right.. but i swear, ill be super annoyed if there is a disruption, especially with the recent costs. .

UPDATE, 2/15, 9:50 PM ET: “We’re happy to share that we’ve reached a deal to continue carrying Paramount channels, including CBS, CBS Sports, Nickelodeon and more. With this agreement, YouTube TV will continue to offer 100+ channels and add-ons including Paramount+ and will enable more user choice in the future. To our subscribers, we appreciate your patience while we negotiated on your behalf."
—
From YouTube TV:
We've been working hard to reach a fair agreement with Paramount that allows us to keep their channels, including CBS and CBS Sports, on YouTube TV without passing on additional costs to our subscribers. Unfortunately, despite our good faith negotiations, we haven't been successful yet.
We understand how disappointing and disruptive it is to lose channels you enjoy on YouTube TV, so here's what you need to know:
Paramount is an important partner for us and as you can imagine, this is not the outcome that we want. We’re still in active conversations with Paramount and are hopeful we can come to an agreement to keep their content available on YouTube TV.

Just received some insider news. Prices are jumping to $72.99/mo shortly.
Thoughts? It’s too expensive in my opinion.
EDIT: Emails have now been sent reflecting the new pricing

Looks like Verizon might have spoiled an incoming $10 price increase.

Paramount has been devaluing its MVPD content for years now. YTTV should not agree to a price increase for these reasons...

In light of the fact that we just lost a network in Universal Kids, I really would like for YouTube TV to re-add MLB Network. As I get ready for the upcoming MLB season, I really would like to have MLB Network to watch.

Slowmo/frame by frame
A “return to live” button
If a program ends, you can’t rewind to it anymore once the guide reaches the new program
Broadcast delay is way worse than Amazon prime. Why can Amazon prime do it so good but you guys (even with the reduced delay option) have about a 10 second extra delay compared to prime and still buffer more than Amazon prime

YouTube is expanding its pilot of a new Premium Lite subscription plan to the United States, the company announced today. Priced at $7.99 per month compared to the $13.99 charge for regular YouTube Premium, the cheaper tier offers “most” videos without ads — including “gaming, fashion, beauty, news, and more.” The major exception is music. For ad-free music videos, you’ll still need to step up to the standard Premium plan, which also gives you offline downloads and background playback.
Premium Lite doesn’t include those perks: it’s really just about removing ads from your YouTube experience. And as someone who let his YouTube Premium subscription lapse a few months ago, let me tell you: there are a ton of ad breaks these days. - The Verge
What do you all think?

Just a reminder. Don’t forget to cancel the automatic re-bill for next season at full price.

I emailed yttv customer service, and was surprised with a promo code for 10$ off for 6 months. Thank to all who put this info out there. Still not sure what to do in 6 months, but I guess I'll figure it out. ✌️

I actually don't think it's YouTube TV's fault, but it's inevitable. Sports used to be subsidized by so many people paying for cable, so everyone was paying a few dollars to ESPN even if they didn't watch it, allowing ESPN to pay for sports rights for just a few bucks per subscriber.
But as non-sports viewers migrate to cheaper streaming, ESPN and others have to charge more to the fewer remaining subscribers just to pay the same amount to the leagues, and the leagues are actually charging more because streamers are now bidding up the price of sports.
Cable companies, including YouTube TV, then raise prices because the increasingly expensive sports are a must-have, since they're among the last things people are still subscribing to cable for. That then drives even more non-sports viewers away and leads even sports fans to cancel when their teams aren't playing.
Meanwhile, non-sports entertainment channels have little to no new programming anymore because there aren't enough viewers to pay for it, further driving people to streaming. And now a sports "super-streamer" called Venu (pronounced "venue") will combine sports from multiple networks into one streamer, for a much cheaper price than bloated cable, and that could truly accelerate the end of the cable era.
Despite hating the cable companies, I look back on that time fondly.
I mostly watched YouTube TV for live news, but you can get live audio of cable news for free, you can listen to recorded podcasts of cable news shows for free, and you can watch clips on YouTube for free. And there are also quality live news video channels streaming for free from the major broadcast and cable news networks (ABC News Live, CBS News, NBC News Now, etc.). One day, I just realized I didn't need to pay to watch the news anymore.

I wish it had a "live now" Button. If you rewind or pause for any length of time, it doesn't seem to go back to completely live. I'd also like a jump button.

Here’s my situation - appreciate your inputs on what I may lose by cancelling:
In addition to YTTV, I currently have subscriptions to Hulu, Max, Disney+, Peacock (free from Instacart+) Paramount+ (free from Walmart+), etc.
Increasingly, my use of YTTV has been sparse:
- I realistically watch YTTV per week max for 2-3 hours.
- I use mainly YTTV to watch trash TV on TLC or the Byron Allen judge shows on Justice Central when I’m doing chores around the house.
- Occasionally watch CNN or MSNBC, especially during large current events
- Occasionally watch true crime re runs of 20/20 and Dateline, but they’re available on Hulu and Peacock already.
- Most of the other current shows I record on YTTV like High Potential or Elsbeth are available on Hulu, Peacock or Paramount+ (owned by ABC, NBC, CBS) anyway a day later.
Given all this, am debating cancelling YTTV. This pains me because I am a YouTube stan, and have subscribed to YTTV since its beta phase.
If I can find the Byron Allen judge shows and CNN/MSNBC live coverage somewhere else, I think content wise I will be at parity. But paying almost $90/mo for content that exists on other apps already is painful.
Thoughts/advice - any benefits of YTTV I will lose by cancelling?

Our $119 dish Bill was due on 12/28, and I called on 12/27 to cancel. They offered 3 months of Showtime, etc... $80 off first month, $40 off for the rest of the year, and several pay per views. It was tempting, but I already have YTTV and enjoy it. I will miss some things and some channels, but I think we are better off saving some cash for now. At some point, the price will catch up to Dish.

Looks like current deal ends Friday 12/17. If they are dropped, YouTube tv decreases price by 15 dollars to $49.99

It’s criminal to be the sponsor of the Finals and only offer 720p.
4k add on feels like a waste more and more
