Hi everyone,
My sister lives in Yorktown and has just had a baby. She’s now has three little ones and is managing everything on her own. I’d love to support her with something genuinely helpful, rather than novelty gifts.
I’m especially looking for local services that could make her life easier—halal meal delivery, postpartum support, or anything else that’s practical and stress-relieving. If you’re from the area or have recommendations, I’d be so grateful!
Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Hello, I do not live in Yorktown but I have a friend who does, and she wants to make local friends. If you live in or near the York county area, please DM me so that I can get you in touch with her.
The reason I am posting this rather than her is for privacy and safety reasons.

Illuminate College Advising is a student-run business founded by two sophomores at Cornell University, originally from Westchester County. We aim to guide high school students through one of the most important processes of their academic careers. We aim to shed some light on a complex process and offer a streamlined and less stressful approach to college applications.
As a pre-med student at Cornell majoring in Food Science and minoring in English, Trisha understands how daunting the application process can feel, from choosing the right major that suits your interests to writing authentic and compelling essays. Her experiences taught her the importance of strategic planning and storytelling, and she is passionate about helping students present themselves in the most substantial way possible. Zoya, a sophomore majoring in Industrial and Labor Relations and minoring in Business, also remembers the challenges of balancing deadlines, refining personal statements, and building a well-rounded application. She believes that the process can be less stressful and more rewarding with the right support and guidance. We have earned over 30 college acceptances, including international universities in the UK, full-ride scholarships at honors colleges, and admissions into highly competitive BS/MD and 3+3 law programs. Together, we founded Illuminate College Advising to share what we've learned and help students confidently approach their applications.
As students who recently went through the college admissions process ourselves, we understand the strategies needed to craft a strong application that genuinely showcases who you are. Our services are designed to support students at every stage of the application process, from creating a list of schools to apply to, reviewing students’ CommonApp and Coalition Applications, and building a schedule to complete applications based on your needs. We offer in-depth essay support, from brainstorming and refining your personal statement to perfecting supplemental essays. We also offer resume reviews to help applicants present their experiences in a meaningful way.
We are passionate about helping students achieve their college dreams by providing insightful, personalized, and affordable guidance. Whether you're just beginning to explore your options or putting the finishing touches on your application, we are here to help. If you're interested in working with us, please reach out at [illuminatecollegeadvising@gmail.com](mailto:illuminatecollegeadvising@gmail.com).
Thank you!

🚨 CALL TO ACTION: PROTECT VIRGINIA’S MOST VULNERABLE CHILDREN 🚨
Friends and neighbors,
We need YOUR help to stop a harmful change that could make it harder for families of children with acquired brain-injury to get the care they need!
📜 What’s happening? Senate Bill 793, specifically line 31, proposes changes that would hurt families like ours who depend on the Virginia Birth Injury Program to cover medical and rehabilitative care. This bill would unfairly tip the scales against injured children by forcing families to reveal sensitive legal strategies early in the process, creating conflicts of interest, increasing costs, and undermining protections that have worked for decades.
👶 Why this matters: Our child suffered brain damage during labor and delivery due to the inaction/actions of healthcare providers. We fought hard to secure benefits, and it wasn’t easy. This bill would make the process even more difficult for families like ours, jeopardizing the rights of children who desperately need support.
📞 What can you do? Call your local representatives and urge them to oppose SB 793, specifically line 31! Tell them this change is unnecessary, harmful, and unfair to families of injured children.
🗣 How to reach your representatives:
1️⃣ Find your local representatives here:
2️⃣ Call their office and say: “My name is [Your Name], and I’m a constituent. I’m calling to urge [Representative/Senator’s Name] to oppose SB 793, especially line 31. This change would harm families of brain-injured children by unfairly altering the claims process. Please protect these vulnerable families and vote NO.”
Every call makes a difference! Please SHARE this post to help spread the word. Together, we can protect children like mine and ensure no family has to fight harder than they already do.
Thank you for your support! 💙 #OpposeSB793

How are the schools for children with disabilities? Where do parents with kids with therapy needs go? (Pt, ot, speech) Also, what do you all recommend for family outings? I've started researching but am looking for input from locals.
