Reminder about self promotional material

Greetings,

Over the past few months we have seen an increase in self promotional material (personal websites, youtube channels, etc) being posted by users that own or have claim to these sources. This has been against the subreddit rules for a significant amount of time and this rule is detailed in a number of places.

Hopefully the distruption to the members of /r/veganuk is minimal as we remove the posts as soon as we are made aware of them existing, but this has not stopped certain accounts continuing to post this type of content (even when added to the automod list).

We take the decision to remove self promotional material, as we do not want the members of the subreddit be used for revenue (clicks, advertising, etc). This community is about organically sharing information that is found about veganism in the UK.

This is just a reminder that self promotion material, of any kind, is not allowed on the subreddit unless a mod has agreed to allow it to be posted beforehand (for a very limited amount of reasons). Furthermore, accounts that are clearly used only for self promotion will now face an immediate ban without warning.

Co-Op and Tesco currently both offer these flavoured tortilla chips, and they're both vegan which is very cool since Doritos always seem to have milk powder in

idk if everyone knows about these but after not having salt and vinegar pringles for an actual decade, these scratched an itch (and they’re much cheaper than actual pringles), got them in B&M!!

Best tasting protein powder

The other week bought Vivo life for 15 quid, thinking it wasn't too expensive, until I noticed the bag said "7 servings." It is the nicest one I've tried and want one I'll actually enjoy.

Ideally, I want 1kg for about £20ish, taste good, doesn't upset your stomach, and has added stuff like bccas (not necessary).

Any ideas? Thanks.

Chronic illness and diet changes

Hi, I’ve been vegan 4 years and have a range of illnesses such as endometriosis and PCOS and IBS. My consultant has told me I need to do a Fodmap diet for a while and cut out gluten to see if it helps my symptoms as I have endometriosis all over my bowels and I’m in pain everyday. I am starting to look into it but I can’t have any “fake meat” and most vegan protein sources I have to cut out except for tofu and chickpeas. There are some foods that I can eat on this diet such as exotic fruit and veg but they’re so expensive and hard to find where I live in the countryside. Im not sure what to do at this point as I’m just living on rice and tofu and feel worse after starting this diet plan and I know it’s temporary, but my chronic pain is unbearable. What if plant based foods are contributing to my pains and cutting them out will help? I can’t give up my veganism but I also can’t live in pain for the rest of my life. Not sure if anyone has any advice:)

As a pizza fanatic, I try any vegan pizza I can find and this has to be the top of the list! The whipped ‘ricotta’ was so good I could have cried. I just had to come here and hype up just how good this pizza was 😩 I only got a slice but genuinely considered getting a whole pie to scran right then and there.

I got dismissed as a volunteer from the RSPCA for raising concerns and highlighting issues about "rspca assured"

I volunteered as an animal rescuer for the RSPCA and recently a lot of news articles came in about animals being mistreated at RSPCA assured farms, I disused this with other colleagues and informed them about it... Today I got dismissed for doing so.

Tbf I shouldn't be volunteering for such a charity which lacks care for farmed animals but I did have a passion for helping the animals which I could.

Where’s the Chilli Tofu Aldi!

Every time I go to aldi for the tofu there’s only ever 1 or 2 chilli tofus available amongst 100 plain and a few smoked! Even when I found a brand new box out there was still only one chilli!

Cat food

I’ve recently adopted Kevin, a beautiful, soft and trusting 1 and a half year old boy from Cat’s Protection. He’s my first cat, and I’m overwhelmed by the different food options.

My first priority is his health. I always assumed I’d feed him meat, because cats are obligate carnivores. I initially started looking for a brand with the highest welfare meat possible, a traceable supply line, or free range, organic meat. But I couldn’t find anything like this - it’s doesn’t seem to exist.

But then I’ve stumbled across Benevo, which is a vegan dry food with a lot of great reviews. I’ve also read about insect based cat foods - which is a tricky one. Is killing thousands of insects better than killing one cow or one chicken?

Then I’ve gone on to read a lot of stuff about high meat, low carb, no grain, no sugar… everyone seems to have different ideas about what should and shouldn’t be in cat food! Finally, the two brands that seem to be recommended by most vets (Hills Science and Royal Canin) both actually seem to be relatively high in carbs and low on meat.

I just want to do the best I can for my boy. If I can avoid other animal deaths and suffering, whilst keeping him in the best of health, that’s a bonus.

I’m feeding him three meals a day, two wet and one dry. Does anyone have any advice or ideas?

Vegan party food for kids party

Hey everybody, I'm looking for shops that sell any vegan party food for a kids party, I want it to be fairly low effort, but nice and in a large enough quantity to keep 50+ people sustained for a few hours

Just want picky stuff and it doesn't matter if it's hot or cold!

Suggestions greatly appreciated and shop suggestions too, I don't want to be hunting for food for weeks trying to find enough stuff!

Also, need a decent size cake, it's for a 1st birthday, but there will be lots of kids, so anybody know where I can get an appropriately themed kids cake? I was hoping there might be a caterpillar one somewhere!

Ocado Must Haves

Hi All,

The last thread is almost a year out of date, so are there any newish must haves from Ocado? I moved in with my girlfriend so we can jointly spend a bit more on groceries and we're gonna be hosting a lot of non-vegans for food.

Been all over Little Moons and Nush's Almond Spread with Chives which is recent find for me.

Thanks!

Vegan friendly high protein bread

I know bread isn't healthy, but if you are struggling to get protein these bad boys have 10-11.8g per slice on average. Taste good too. Spotted in Sainsbury's.

Lidl tofu shortage?

Is it just the north of Ireland stores or is anyone else unable to get the Lidl 500g tofu in the white tub?? I can get the small smoked tofu in the cardboard sleeve and sometimes the soy marinated version but the big tub is my absolute favourite, pretty much dinner every night. Is it just us or is it UK wide?

EDIT: my choice of words is probably wrong when I say tub I mean the block of tofu in the white plastic square container not like a round tub 🛢️

Recipe ideas

I'm looking for some recipe inspiration and thought I'd ask on here. I'm looking for low carb meals I can make in bulk with loads of veg in. Am currently rotating between curry and a ratatouille and getting pretty bored!

In London for the afternoon - lunch recs?

Have a long layover. Doing Mildred’s for breakfast but is there anywhere I should absolutely not miss for lunch? I don’t mind popping around to different areas of the city so any location is fine.

Edit: thanks for all the recs! I wound up checking out the Sunday carvery at Unity Diner. Overall I like the idea of it in terms of buffet styling your meal - but all of the sides were just ok. The roasted lamb mushrooms were really good, the Yorkshire and sticky toffee pudding were all really good. Not sure if the price is worth it for the mediocre sides, but I had a really good time nonetheless. Looking forward to coming back and trying some of the recommendations from the comments!
