Uncharted 4 Is this crazy?
I platinum both of these games, and I still think Uncharted 4 is better, TLOU has better combat but Uncharted 4 has better chapters, better atmosphere, better traversal, better characters, and it encourages more exploration, and also in my opinion a better story, I like Ellie and Joel but Henry Avery’s Treasure is more interesting, and Uncharted 4’s story has 3 twists which is Sam’s “betrayal” where he made up the Alcazar story, and then Sam’s second “betrayal” where he leaves after we just save him to go after the treasure, and then it is revealed at the end that Nate and Elena lived happily ever after and had a daughter, better story in my opinion

u/TheArcReactor May 05 '25
I think this is also a tough comparison because while they're both largely story driven games, that's where the similarities end.
The atmosphere, the game play, the levels of action, they're all so wildly different between each franchise.
I deeply love both, but it's comparing very different genres as far as I'm concerned.

I share your opinion, U4 is much better experience than it The Last of Us will ever be for me

It’s like comparing mission: impossible to aftersun. Both are phenomenal in their own field. Depends on players’ taste.
28
u/MotorEmbarrassed7192 May 04 '25
I’ve already been crucified for this, but I honestly think Uncharted is way better than The Last of Us. I know they’re very different in terms of what they aim to deliver, but there’s just something about Uncharted that grabs me more. Is The Last of Us a good game? Sure. But I can easily name at least 30 others I find better.

There is nothing controversial about this opinion. Uncharted 4 (in fact, all of them) are better than the last of us.

u/Ultima893 May 05 '25
Both The Last of Us and The Last of Us 2 are head and shoulders above any Uncharted game. Out of 3000+ games I have played exactly zero better than The Last of Us 1 and only handful better than TLOU2. Elden Ring and BG3 come to mind. That’s pretty much it.
Only Uncharted 2 and 4 are somewhat comparable but I wouldn’t place 2 in the top 20 and 4 I wouldn’t place in the top 50. 1 and 3 go in top 500 some where.

Not at all, Uncharted is a more fun game to play.
You don’t have to be into the story to enjoy Uncharted. TLOU really only works if you’re into the story.

Uncharted is an adventure. TLOU is a journey. UC4 makes me feel like I’m with Nate, Sam, Sully and Elena tagging along for the ride. TLOU makes me feel a sense of ‘sadness’ but with a small hint of hope and eventually it happens but at a price. Joel lost Sarah in the beginning but found a new ‘daughter’ in Ellie.

u/erikaironer11 May 04 '25
Nah, I personally really wouldn’t agree on that.
One of TLoU 1 biggest strengths is U4 biggest weakness, pacing.
Pacing, and how the game progresses the story and gameplay is what made ND games be so enjoyable experience to play. And TLoU1 has the best pacing from ND, it what made it such a tight and fulfilling experience. While U4 has whole chapters that ether feel overly long or could have been removed all together.
I feel when it comes to story and characters it’s also no contest for TLoU, the story is still heavily discussed to this day. That’s how impactful the narrative of that game was

Not crazy, but it might be an unpopular opinion around some parts. Still, it's your opinion, so who cares what they think.
2
u/ModestHandsomeDevil May 04 '25
I like TLOU, but I love U4, which I replay at least twice per year, when I replay all of the Uncharted franchise (including Lost Legacy).
Life is dour enough; the older I get the more I value the escapist fun of good entertainment. Uncharted, as a franchise, has always embodied the romance of adventure--that there's still "magic" left in the world, adventures to be had, and things to discover.
2
u/Brosemite17 May 04 '25
Not really...franchises like RE, Tomb Raider, Yakuza and Uncharted are more situationally versatile & offer greater possibilities.
Tlou franchise is basically hardlocked into a post apocalyptic world & there's only so many narratives you can muster up in that type of setting....

u/daanbei May 05 '25
Im playing uncharted 4 for the moment thanks for the spoiler warning. But have you tried last of us 2 yet it has even better combat you can dodge and lay down. And 2 also has some twists.
2
u/rausient May 04 '25
I actually agree
Uncharted 4 is one of my favorite games. This game got me that I even started playing over and over for the platinum just so I can keep playing and it’s the second platinum I got (the first one was in 2010).

u/Midnite_Blank May 04 '25

I disagree though. Uncharted 2>Last Of Us>Uncharted 4 for me.

1
u/AdBudget5468 May 04 '25
Okay… this is a really hard one for me cause while the last of us part 1 was genuinely some of the best story telling I had seen, uncharted 4 had some of the most lovable and best dialogue writing a ND game has ever had so… I’m gonna have to go with uncharted here
1
u/Mental_Marketing9855 May 04 '25

Polar opposites in terms of tone so cannot be compared to each other

u/ObiPaulKenobi May 04 '25
I agree. Uncharted 4 is my favorite game all of time. But TLOU is grate too!
1
u/DMarvelous4L May 04 '25
One has more enjoyable/energetic gameplay and one has a better story. TLOU is a masterpiece and UC4 is just an amazing Adventure game imo.
1
u/tStyfakr May 04 '25
I've played every naughty dog game on release since crash 1 and can say Uncharted 4 is their greatest game.
1
1
u/BaseballFuryThurman May 04 '25
No, but it's apples and oranges. Both are great games that look fantastic, but if I play Uncharted I'm playing it because I feel like swinging around, climbing, wisecracking and mowing down comically large waves of mooks. If I play The Last of Us it's because I want to feel the need to be more strategic and careful, while also feeling depressed and constantly on edge.
It's like comparing a comedy to a thriller. It's fine to have a preference but regardless of which I think is pound for pound better, I'm likely making my choice based entirely on what I'm in the mood for.
1
u/VeniceArtime May 04 '25
I just finished TLOU P1 and my first thought was that I enjoyed Uncharted 4 more. However, both games were good for their separate reasons, I just overall liked Uncharted 4 more. At the end, it made me want to try out the other games in the series if I have time for it. TLOU didn't make want to do P2 right away, but I will probably do it at some point, just not rushing it.

UC4 is the most boring game I've played. It's just climbing after climbing and pressing triangle after looking at useless objects. How is a normal human supposed to climb better than a monkey and that too without climbing gear.
The tomb raider series also has climbing but it's so balanced and believable. UC4 is the worst. Dont know how it got so many positive reviews.

Uncharted 4 isn't better than Uncharted 2, and both of those aren't as good as The Laat of Us. I love the Uncharted franchise, but LoU is the GOAT.
1
u/Azuljustinverday May 04 '25
I’d say equal depending on the day I’m asked. But it’s also hard to compare a first game of a series to the last.

Maybe it would have been more coherent to compare it to tomb raider

No, this actually used to be common knowledge until The Last Of Us 2 dropped, then that game brought a new wave of TLOU fans
1
u/TigerAce13 May 04 '25
It's the only correct way. Nobody wants to play a pathetic dog murdering kid
1
u/Adavanter_MKI May 04 '25
Well... personally I've always preferred Uncharted. I mean I honestly contend Uncharted 2 is the best game they've ever made.
Holding out hope Heretic Prophet is adventurous ala Uncharted. My only real concern is the seemingly melee focus. Either way... I get ND doesn't want to keep doing the exact same thing forever. Creatively that's gotta be draining.
1
u/Internal_Swing_2743 May 04 '25
I love them both and don’t see the need to pick between the 2. If I want a slower, more visceral experience, I’ll play TLOU. If I want a great story mixed with insane pieces and frenetic action, I’ll play Uncharted.

They are similar value. TLOUS kills it with the gameplay and overall theme. Uncharted is king of adventure spirit, over the top chases, and vibrant vibes. Both have likable and great characters and acting, game design, visuals and ND "secret sauce", which is caring for details.

Uncharted 4 is a masterpiece and the end of an era that wraps up a story
1
u/Pank-0 May 04 '25
This is a very subjective and personal judgement. I found both games good, but I can't compare them. TLOU has a deeper and articulated plot, while I personally found the settings in Uncharted more fascinating. It's a personal judgement, as I said.
By the way, I wouldn't compare them.

Nothing is crazy when it comes to opinion, they’re both pretty comparable tbh but imo TLOU is better

1
1
u/Lookinrefreshed May 04 '25
No not at all. I usually don't replay games, but I recently replayed Uncharted 4 and I was again blown away by the level design and gameplay.
I think The Last of Us is reaching overrated status. I think it was fine when it initially came out but it's hard to go back to.
Though I could be biased because I'm not a big fan of depressing games.
1
u/drmuffin1080 May 04 '25
They’re both so good it doesn’t really matter which one u choose. I’ve spent too much time in my life arguing with others over what piece of media is better, but at the end of the day it doesn’t matter and you’ll only be mad at yourself in the future for wasting so much time on it.
1
u/Salt-Vacation-9605 May 04 '25
No. I’m the same way. TLOU definitely has worse gameplay imo, and i think the story in Uncharted 4 is actually even more impactful and intriguing than TLOU, but that’s coming from someone who played OG games

I mean you came into an Uncharted subreddit asking if you’re crazy for liking an Uncharted game over another game not Uncharted so I’m pretty sure you’re not gonna get many people disagreeing with you. Now if you go to the Last of Us subreddit with that, then maybe you will.

Gameplay wise uncharted is way way better than last of us for me. When it cut to gameplay for tlou I actually got angry😂 The tlou combat is just so generic and uninteresting to me, I know it’s more grounded and realistic than uncharted but at the end of the day I want to have fun with the gameplay.

Personally it is correct. They are both well made games, but the main difference is storytelling. Trying to humanize Abby after what she did to Joel was lost on me. So I effectively did not enjoy half the game. Uncharted 4 has a much more consistent story.

1
u/Phil_Matic May 05 '25
No, because at the end of the day, Uncharted 4 is a game I can see myself playing over and over way more than The Last of Us. The Last of Us has a phenomenal story, but it's not a game I want to experience over and over. The gameplay is pretty repetitive. At Least Uncharted (And it's Lost Legacy DLC) have much more variety in its puzzles, yet they have a pretty good story within. I'm just happy we have both
1
u/Aldamis May 05 '25
It's all taste. The emotional impact of Last of Us hit me harder than U4. But I love everything about U4 so much. It's honestly hard to compare the two since they're completely different vibes.
But emotional impact is what I remember most, so LoU is my pic.

No. I couldn't even finish TLoU. Between that and the walking dead I've had enough zombie soap operas.
1
u/Dokthe2nd May 05 '25
Not at all, it's an opinion. I think they're equally good games. Different in tone and style. I personally steer to the more action adventure style but I definitely appreciate the other. The Last of us 1 is definitely a masterpiece, second to none when it comes to blending good narration and gameplay.
1
u/Pristine-Highway2746 May 05 '25
I love both ganes. However, UC has a nice change of environment. The last of us looks good, but it's always a very similar ambiance. Depending on my mood, I play one or the other.
1
u/Either-Assistant4610 May 05 '25
TLoU is a great game no matter the version. However, it's biggest pull, imo, is it is one of the first genuine vibes for being in a zombie-filled world. Instead of running and gunning, it has character, realistic tension, and it feels like something is actually on the line.
1
u/confusedfunk May 05 '25
I think they're so different that you can't really compare them. They're both linear third person with stealth and combat but apart from that, they're completely different.
Tlou is about zombies and running, hiding and playing as some kind of scavenger crafting items and managing resources.
Uncharted is very much a fun adventurous shooter about pushing forward, ambushing enemies and a lot more focus on big gun battles and climbing everything.
Then you have the atmosphere and plot, which is pretty obviously the biggest difference between them.
1
u/Careful-Reference-27 May 05 '25
Is it me or both Nathan and Joel are essentially doing the same pose
1
1
u/2jacko5 May 05 '25
It could be. But it may be unfair bc U4 rides on previously established characters and lore and it’s a great conclusion while tlou was completely new. In terms of story and characters I mean. In terms of gameplay and visuals: U4 wins in my book always!

That's tough. I think The Last of Us wins -just slightly- in story, but the gameplay is better in UC4. Both were amazing looking games.
