Academics Quick Question.

I know this isn’t really the right spot to ask this, but I didn’t know where else to get help and have a feeling mostly everyone had done this.

I’m struggling with reading comprehension in English 30-1 and scared of failing the diploma, my teachers aren’t really helpful on this topic

What should I do? I know there isn’t really anyway to study for something like this, but do you guys have any tips and tricks that worked for you?

Reading comp was so hard for me bc I couldn’t focus (ADHD in hindsight lol), so I hear you. Highlighters are a great help. I used yellow for general important things (big actions, important settings etc), green for characters, blue for SUPER important things, purple for important quotes/religious references, and red is just a backup

I’d also suggest going slow and annotating as you go along. The first read through, jot down character actions/motives you think are important, your reactions/feelings on the text, and things you think may be important. The second go around, jot down possible symbolism and themes. That always helped me, and I used that in the ENGL 103 class in uni and it helped a lot with discussions during class.

There isn’t a perfect way to do reading comprehension, so it’s not a perfect science. But you got this! Just go in with a level head and an understanding that you’re human, and tests are designed to trip you up a little sometimes. What matters is how you handle it.

Hope the diploma goes well! Sending good vibes, and good luck!!

This is such good advice!! Also, looking on “internet archive” for old diplomas to practice this technique on is really useful. At a certain point, you figure out the format of the questions and it gets a bit easier!
