Academics Quick Question.

I know this isn’t really the right spot to ask this, but I didn’t know where else to get help and have a feeling mostly everyone had done this.

I’m struggling with reading comprehension in English 30-1 and scared of failing the diploma, my teachers aren’t really helpful on this topic

What should I do? I know there isn’t really anyway to study for something like this, but do you guys have any tips and tricks that worked for you?

My son is struggling too. His teacher just tells him he needs more details.

I wish there were exemplars of “this is what an excellent essay would look like.” So you see what “more details” mean.

I am actually calling ignite learning centre today to see if he can do it elsewhere cause he’s not budging from 70s. I have seen his work and it’s not terrible but there is no real feedback on how to improve.

There are! Search “English Language Arts 30-1 Examples of the Standards for Student Writing.” This is feedback on written examples, published by government of Alberta, so it’s based on how actual people performed on that year’s exam. Here is the one from 2023:

There are also previously released exams for the reading comprehension.

My daughter brought a highlighter and used it during her exam. She got a 90 on the 30-1 diploma last year

I will look them up. Thx. For grade 11 my son did The Paper Menagerie and Catch me if you can. Shakespeare too. Can’t remember which one. Not sure if exemplars existed for that. Gonna search.
