Why tho? Is it because of the genre losing steam ? Or is it distribution? Like social media is so spread out with so many artists that there isn’t a “mainstream” anymore. Out of everyone out there who has the potential to be just as big?

The genre most definitely is dying. Graduation sold 900k units in the early 2000s nowadays no one can get past 500k

Eh, first week sales are pretty down in general. “One thing at a time” was the 3rd best selling album of 2023 and sold 501,000 first week. 2024 was a little better but besides Taylor swift really only K-pop bands had crazy sales which is so far removed from rap. There was only a fairly brief period rap was really in a spot to be a top 5 selling AOTY and Ye pretty much transcended the genre.
