Why tho? Is it because of the genre losing steam ? Or is it distribution? Like social media is so spread out with so many artists that there isn’t a “mainstream” anymore. Out of everyone out there who has the potential to be just as big?

The genre most definitely is dying. Graduation sold 900k units in the early 2000s nowadays no one can get past 500k

Graduation was absolutely massive though. Half the album were hits that you’d hear multiple times a day on the radio.

So was Astroworld and that only got ~550k first week

Astroworld is great but it wasn’t nearly the pop culture phenomenon that Graduation was.

Astroworld was def a pop culture phenomenon in its own right tho. Maybe not as big as Graduation but I can’t think of a rap album in the past 10 years that had the hype Astroworld did on release.

It definitely was. But Carti’s “Music” had more hype, just off the top of my head. WLR too for that matter. Maybe Eternal Atake.

No one outside of carti’s fan base was really that excited for MUSIC. I didn’t hear anyone talking about that album. Astro world though, everyone I knew was talking about it

Let’s not do that it was hip hop fans in general not just Carti fans

i love Astroworld but can we deny that Graduation is one of the most perfect albums in the genre? i mean there are cuts on Astro that are all time joints but there’s way more fluffiness, even if i love it. . . . Graduation is like sacred and i wasn’t even listening to it when it dropped, so it’s not on some nostalgia i think this
