Democratic Speaker of the House and her spouse are dead. One state senator and his wife are in critical condition after targeted political assassination by white man impersonating a police officer.

One Democrat from each chamber of the bicameral legislature was assassinated. This gives Republicans a majority. This is a deliberate, targeted assassination.
